  • The blanket stitch is a wonderful hand sewing technique to learn, as it can be used to great effect as decorative edging on various projects including blankets, dishcloths and fabric ornaments.
    The usual materials to use blanket stitch on are non-fraying fabrics like felt, fleece and wool. The stitch is best at joining and decorating raw edges.
    In this lesson, I will show you how to join 2 felt edges together, including how to stitch neatly around a corner. The demo begins at 3:20 in the video.
    Thanks for watching!

    hello, walked into a cloth store first time today for a project and saw some cute cotton cloths, got a wild idea to see a blanket for a very lovely 2year old baby girl, who came with her family to my island after fleeing Venezuela. Wanted to give her something beautiful to anchor joy into her inner child. This stitch is something I fondly remember from my own childhood blanket & wanted to make it. So Wonderful to find your video💜✨🙏🏼 can't wait to make the blanky for Nina😊

    Interesting, but how would you do it if there's only one layer of fabric?

    • @RokoleeDIY
      @RokoleeDIY  Před 5 lety +7

      It would be the same technique in that case, the only difference being that where you have secured the thread at the beginning and end of the sewing will be visible on one side of the fabric. If you want to hem the single layer of fabric and then add blanket stitch over the hem, I have an example of that in my updated video : czcams.com/video/9fMsHU1qfMI/video.html
      Hope that helps :)

    • @RokoleeDIY
      @RokoleeDIY  Před 4 lety

      Thanks! I would recommend hemming the muslin because, as you say, it would be likely to fray.
      I have a different video showing how to hem using blanket stitch:
      czcams.com/video/9fMsHU1qfMI/video.html
      so you would fold over the edge of the fabric once or twice (then press with an iron) then add the blanket stitch over the hem. Thanks for watching :)
