- The blanket stitch is a wonderful hand sewing technique to learn, as it can be used to great effect as decorative edging on various projects including blankets, dishcloths and fabric ornaments.
The usual materials to use blanket stitch on are non-fraying fabrics like felt, fleece and wool. The stitch is best at joining and decorating raw edges.
In this lesson, I will show you how to join 2 felt edges together, including how to stitch neatly around a corner. The demo begins at 3:20 in the video.
Thanks for watching!

hello, walked into a cloth store first time today for a project and saw some cute cotton cloths, got a wild idea to see a blanket for a very lovely 2year old baby girl, who came with her family to my island after fleeing Venezuela. Wanted to give her something beautiful to anchor joy into her inner child. This stitch is something I fondly remember from my own childhood blanket & wanted to make it. So Wonderful to find your video💜✨🙏🏼 can't wait to make the blanky for Nina😊
Sounds lovely! Happy crafting and thanks for your comment :D
I ended up marking two spaces on my thumb with a marker to make my stitches evenly apart. So easy and so much faster than using tape.
Good idea :)
Pretty smart!
This video was worth watching for the thread-knot trick alone! I cant believe id never seen that before!!! 🤯🙃
Thank you for clearly showing how to turn a corner and even more importantly, ending the stitch pattern.

This is the best tutorial on how to start a blanket stitch. Could you please do one that shows how to end the stitch I have had the hardest time and there's only one video that shows it, and not very well. If you could show how to end the stitch that would be wonderful - thank you!
Aw thank you :) Sorry I didn't show connecting the start and end of blanket stitch...I'm probably not going to make another video soon but I have a video on how to blanket stitch an applique and that might help you out.

thank you very helpful
Thanks :)
Thank you for this tutorial. It's been so helpful. I am edging a pillow case and will need to change thread several times. Do you have a tutorial for doing this? Thanks
I don't, sorry, hopefully another CZcams channel can help :)
Best tutorial I have seen on blanket stitching thus far! So easy and nice and slow to follow. Great job! Thank you so much!
Aw thanks very much :D
THANK YOU REALLY SO MUCH
You're welcome!
Thanks again
Thank you so much ❤️ It is too clear
I'm making a teddy bear 😁
Thanks for watching :)
Interesting, but how would you do it if there's only one layer of fabric?
It would be the same technique in that case, the only difference being that where you have secured the thread at the beginning and end of the sewing will be visible on one side of the fabric. If you want to hem the single layer of fabric and then add blanket stitch over the hem, I have an example of that in my updated video : czcams.com/video/9fMsHU1qfMI/video.html
Hope that helps :)
☺🤗thanks
Help me a lot thx
This video is so helpful! Do you think blanket stitching would be appropriate to use on muslin? Or do you think it might fray?
Thanks! I would recommend hemming the muslin because, as you say, it would be likely to fray.
I have a different video showing how to hem using blanket stitch:
czcams.com/video/9fMsHU1qfMI/video.html
so you would fold over the edge of the fabric once or twice (then press with an iron) then add the blanket stitch over the hem. Thanks for watching :)
wonderful explaining :) did you ever do the bead blanket stitch tutorial? **edited to add I just found it** :)
Thanks :) Glad you found the video you wanted
Thank you so much for explaining clear, well spoken, and not fast! Lots of videos on craft videos are too fast, and or can't understand as they speak too fast/video is too fast. Thanks!
You are so welcome! Glad you liked it :)
Just turn your settings down to the lowest speed.
Nice
thank you
Perfect video
Thank you :)
The thread is made in Pakistan... I was born there
Thank you for showing us the corner stitching. It was very helpful to make my corners pretty
I'm glad it helped :)
