It seems like Nike comes out with at least one boot every year that surprises everyone, or at least introduces something that we've never seen before. With that said, 2020, for various reasons, has been slow. We got the Phantom Vision 2, which was just a very subtle refresh from the original, which would later be replaced by the Phantom GT, which also cancelled out the Phantom Venom. 2 Phantoms for 1, so you'd expect the Phantom GT to be pretty special. Well, it's not.
In today's video we take a closer look at the very good looking "Scorpion" colorway of the Phantom GT Elite, inspired by an 18 Nike commercial, but more importantly, we discuss how the Phantom GT stacks up against all of the amazing new football boots that have also come out in mid to late 2020. Do they live up to the hype Nike tried to push, or has the Phantom GT been a complete failure? Let's talk about that. Do you think the Phantom GT was a failure for Nike?

As a 30 year old I remember the scorpion adverts, they were absolutely amazing with Cantona announcing it, all the best footballers in the world in a cage tournament with a great soundtrack - lot of reminscent value with these for me, I remember even owning the bright silver scorpion ball that got wrecked after about 10 kicks!
So true... ball looked incredible brand new. I'd drag it to practice years later as a coach with scuffs and all and the kids still thought it was the coolest ball ever lol
I'm 31 and I had a coach back then who bought a whole bag's worth of the chrome scorpion Nike balls. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever being able to play with them.
That song is still my go to hype song before games
I also had that ball, looked for one on eBay the other day and it started at £5000 for a size 3 🤯
I was in high school when this tv commercials came out And of course I remember the hype and the cleats that was advertised back then was the vapor and the zoom total 90. Now I don’t understand what the heck does the phantom has to do this ? If I was Nike I would have done this special edition cleats with the vapors. And by the way I had that crome ball till it got stolen. But for some reason I was using the predators mania in champagne color.. everyone wanted to wear the predators like Beckham.. good memories 😌

I actually held a tournament at that time with my friends in a ship wear the storage was empty. We even had the Chrome ball, we had Junkie XL on a loop and played for 8 hours in teams. Epic it was, damn I’m old.
Plus the scorpion was representing Roberto Carlos signature in the commercial

remember the dinho gold boot delivery and the crossbar volleys... that one ad got me into the sport when I was ~12 yrs old and ended up on scholarship for soccer in America. its kinda significant because I had played the big 3 sports since I was 4-5 years old and never had much interest in soccer til dinho caught my attention in that add..
I was asking myself what Mason Mount was wearing, this is clearly it.
I feel like the Scorpion comes from the idea of Scorpion cage matches, people pick them up in the desert and drop them in a ring to watch them fight... Maybe that's where it came from...

My man, in that commercial, Roberto Carlos (I think) scored a decisive goal using a scorpio kick, so that is probably where the scorpio comes from :)

I wanted these so bad as that advert was the reason I fell in love with football. But I got the black & pink ones because the chrome on these would wear off after a few games. Which was sad to me.

Hi Jonah, I'm looking for a very comfortable and quite protective pair of boots with quite aggressive traction, good lockdown and a padded touch and I really want to try out the Adipure IV/Tiempo legend 4/legend 4 elite however I'm not sure if it's the best idea due to durability issues. Other boots that I could fit into my budget are the Mizuno Morelia Neo 3 Elite, Mizuno Rebula 3 Elite (possibly MIJ), Tiempo Legend 7, Puma King platinum and possibly Copa 20+ as well. What would you recommend, the older Adipures or any of those newer models? Also the SG version of the Adipure and tiempo is only a 6 stud layout, how do they compare to more modern SG-PRO soleplates in terms of comfort and traction and do 6 medal studs still offer more traction than the bladed FG version of the Adipure? Thanks!
Go for the tiempo. If they break early you can send them back to nike for a $230 refund

What does "wearable finish" mean when it comes to soleplates?
It means the shiny part of the sole plate is going to chip away and won’t look like it did when you first started wearing it.
Hey, I got adidas x19+ a few month back, wore tham like 3 times, got walked on, and the top were laces usally are teared like 1 inch, is it a common thing to happen with those shoes ? Can't find anything online

Personally I think it should have been another Mercurial colorway, but the idea is cool. Owned the original scorpion ball which looked absolutely amazing... until after your first time using it🙁

The logo on the inside of the boot would look so much better, it looks awkward outside
I think it would have been better for the scorpion circle to be on the in step so they could look more like the air zoom total 90s IIs that had the big 90 circle.
Also, the chrome and generative texturing makes the boot look like a steel utility box that you put in the back of a pick up truck.
Nike should've had you on the design team instead of whoever made the boots

I have slightly flat feet and whenever I wear a vapors I can only train in them for 10-20 minutes after the my mid foot starts hurting.. I am thinking about getting a phantom gt and going half a size down for a snug fit and tight.. not as tight as the vapors but relatively tight and snug.. if this won’t give me that sensation then what will ?
This might be a weird comparison but how would you say these fit compared to a pair of Nike Premier 2’s?
These are wider and definitely have more volume. The Premier fits better overall in my opinion.

I really love Nike mercurials though. I have never tried phantom gt. Mercurials are the best trust me.. but it is not that durable
Predator 20.1 Vs phantom gt in terms of lockdown and responsiveness. Cant decide between them
They're pretty similar in that area, although the Preds for fit tighter overall, which can often make a boot feel more responsive. The stud pattern is more aggressive on the GT though, so it provides more bit when pushing off.

No effect. Here's a fun fact though, should you get poisoned by a scorpion, ACC can be used as an anti-venom.
