I was a bouncer, and we had one gregarious smaller guy, always smiling, knew everybody. He could break up a fight better than the rest of us just by talking.
Straight to prime is the equivalent of saying straight to VHS for us old timers that get the reference... and this definitely feels like that type of film.

I think it’s funny how so many movies today are either a remake or a sequel. It’s like they’re trying to recapture the magic of films in the 80’s or 90’s, because the public is lukewarm on most of the stuff put out today.

Jake Gyllenhaal is an excellent actor, he's been in some great films like southpaw and stronger among many others. This film isn't one of those though,I think prince of Persia is better than this.
I'm trying really hard give it a fair shake rather then just compare it to the original. I think the more I can accept it as it's own thing, the more I'll like it.

I was not too enthusiastic about a new roadhouse remix usually stink but this one was surprisingly good Jake was in phenomenal shape and Connor look better than ever now we know what that extra weight was for.
The Original Dalton was not a braggadocio or even a trained fighter. He was a man of Philosophy, tai chi, and passive until action hit. IDK this is gonna suck, but im gonna watch it anyway because the first one is a cult classic lol. Plus the original had Jeff Healy Band in it, who is the Jeff Healy Band of today?????

@@pbfoley It doesn't bother me, its just another type of movie, it has its merits in other ways. Kinda like Pointbreak, or the original Roadhouse, or sooo many movies when they first come out that are bad but then with time people like them. Like, the script wasn't brilliant either but who cares.
It looks like Gyllenhaal created a new Dalton which is what I was hopeful for. Swayze had his and it would be wrong to try and imitate that. The action looks decent. McGregor looks like he can hold his own. All in all, I’ll sit thru it.

Yeah the bar was my biggest complaint. The Double Deuce Roadhouse was no beach cabana. Otherwise not terrible sometimes fun.
It's on a beach in the Dominican Republic. The movie was filmed there to save money, and it shows.

The idea behind ''Road House'' has been done hundreds of times, specifically in Westerns: the lone vigilante who goes to clean up a village under the influence of a rich gangster who is really not nice. These stories all had different names. Why put a target on your back by titling this project ''Road House'', a gem of a film so adored by its fans and starring an almost untouchable actor? We might as well have come up with an equally cool title, changed the names and a few plot points and just publicized that it's an homage to the 1989 classic. Just having Jake and Conor would have been enough to attract people. Add to that a cool actress, a cool musician, a cool soundtrack, a cool title and voila. Now, this film will have to use three-quarters of its energy just to combat the disadvantageous comparisons with Patrick Swayze's cult film. And we can already see the ravages of wokism in the trailer. Oh well. So be it. Who cares really. We still have the 1989 version. No one can take it away.

IDK how you could think this movie "ruined" the original. In my opinion. This new movie is pretty good, actually a bit refreshing. It doesn't feel to me like they tried to remake the original, out of respect. This feels like a different film and I appreciate that. The fight scenes are really good. The camera work was good, too. Story made sense. Characters were good. What's not to like?

To be fair that could very well be just the marketing team and the shots they used. Some films have looked pretty awful in a trailer then turned out to be far more fun, or at least watchable, when the film itself arrives.

When you use the same basic plot, character names, and THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE FILM, it used to be called plagiarism.
