  • How to get Inside the RIPSAW drift tank gearbox, how it works, possible motor upgrade is what I was thinking but I could not find a faster 390 motor and from the look of the motors com and brushes it looked like it handled the 3S lipo battery fine so I just decided to leave the stock motor in it.

    I dont know if you are already figuring this out or not. It is a double differential steering mechanism. A realistic mechanism of how the real tank works.
    So to pivot turning in place it use its small motor to turn the outer gear of the diff, to going straight use the large motor turning the middle gear, and to turn using the small motor to interupt the diff so that one side will become slower vice versa. I never thought this cheap RC have such complex realistic mechanism. It is awesome!

    I have this tank. I bought it as a toy to play with some 3.75” action figures with the kids. I’m impressed with how freaking smart you and all the RC guys are in upgrading electronics, motors, etc. I want to do some of the graphite maintenance on the tracks from your other video. The only other “Mod” I want to do is cosmetic. This tank needs a good quality woodland camo paint job!!! Maybe I’ll disassemble the main parts and get the spray paint out.

    Nice video. Really liked your explanation of how the gearbox works. It's great in the way the steering and drive functions are separated yet together. This means the tank tracks dead straight so the fact that the stock Tx has no trim function really doesn't matter. Of course with your modified set up you can use a better transmitter anyway. I can relate to the grease getting all over your fingers - I had the same experience when I pulled mine apart :).

    I upgraded my blizzard right from the start. Its really fast and I added smoke and sound but took them back out. White smoke on white snow just doesn't work. The sound system kept restarting over and over as well as sounded tinny. I do like all the leds I added. I just ordered the ripsaw and will be adding more LED lights. Oh, also, I finally found a driver to fit my Blizzard. That took a while. I seen someone used a 4in figure in the ripsaw, but thats too small. Needs to be 5 inch.

    Great Video 👌, Diff System is very advanced, saw a similar System on a R/C Truck from Radio Shack back in the mid '90s... only it was a 6 wheeled Dump Truck with conventional steering on the front axle. Believe it or not, they used the Diff System to Control the Steering instead of a Servo, Diff allowed steering motor to turn after drag link reached it's limit and prevented steering motor from burning out.
    I admit, your Ripsaw has a more advanced system than Kyosho Blizzards... But the Motors are actually the least Expensive part of both Ripsaw and Blizzard Drive Lines... Kyosho Blizzard Line is designed to be abused and easily modified, Ripsaw isn't... unless (of course) someone has Your Skills!🏁

      @MusicStudent1 Před rokem +1

      @@ShenRC, I just fixed it. Your videos were a huge help, thank you. A main plastic part just melted into an adjoining plastic ring and froze the whole tank. I suspect it was from zero grease being applied to those parts at the factory. Either that or it was just a defective part.
      It took 2 hrs and 45 minutes to tear down, clean, sand, re-lube and reassemble the tank. I wet sanded those rough plastic gear parts And basically polished them until they were smooth as glass. Then I coated everything with Tamiya Cerra Grease which is made for metal and plastic.
      The tank runs smoother and faster now. Got me to thinking….if a guy really wanted speed out of one of these, every moving part should be wet sanded, polished, and greased until everything rolls freely.
      I think the motor got a little damaged by being stalled. It smells burnt. Thanks for the video! 😊
