  • FAST TV, LONG PODCAST, SHORT TEMPERS…YET SOMEHOW IT WORKS! WELCOME TO SCREEN WATCHING #131

Our policy is to try to keep the review section upbeat, positive, glass-half-full…but sometimes Hollywood conspires against us. This week, we plunge new depths with our coverage of Meg 2: The Trench (great title…) with Jason Statham, who used to make cool Guy Ritchie films; the Netflix actioner Hidden Strike (great title…) with John Cena and Jackie Chan; and, the new animated comedy series, Captain Fall. Surely the ever-reliable Courtney B. Vance in 61st Street is a highpoint? And Dan does one of his deep dives on the launch of PLUTO TV and what we can expect as we enter the new age of ‘Free Ad-Supported Television’. ENJOY!
    Reviews:
61st STREET (Stan); MEG 2: THE TRENCH (in wide release); CAPTAIN FALL (Netflix); HIDDEN STRIKE (Netflix)
    Intermission:
IT’S TELEVISION - BUT WITH ADS! News this week that PLUTO TV is bringing its FAST TV programming model to Australia has Simon asking, “What the hell are you talking about?” Dan breaks down what ‘Free Ad-Supported Television’ Television is; what makes it unique; where we can find it; why we need it (that’s a toughie…); and, how to prepare your couch cushions for the added arse-time.
PLUS LOTS MORE! The lads plead for a world in which we learn to love more Canadian TV; Simon recalls a giddy, joyous time when studios made dramas about the effects of nuclear fallout; and, Dan turns a simple Birthday Quiz into a quite breathtaking piece of amateur sleuthing (someone had some free time this week!) ENJOY!
