For big zeuhl fans and drummers only! - Hudba
Yeah. Christian Vander is a fabulous drummer. Such great judgment in real time. He moves between really compelling groove ideas and dramatises the arrangements and vocal parts with just the right power and panache. He is really enjoying what he’s doing and you can see his ears are always alert to the rest of the band. His facial expressions give away that utter commitment to whatever he’s playing.
Christian plays drums exactly like Monk played piano... you never quite know where he's going next, but, you know the vibe will be beyond perfection.
What Conrad says!
I saw these guys live in Edinburgh in the seventies, what an experience, the best drummer ever
Vander is from another world.......period.
most underrated drummer of all time
Austin Baird...the best drummer... almost no one has ever heard of.🥁
@@conradmason87 too bad for all those people haha
Underrated ? Maybe in America... In France of course, but in the whole Europa as well, he is regarded as one of the best drummers of all times...
Not underrated at all... regarded everywhere as the best ... except in the US apparently :)
@@jpslebassiste he is regarded in that level by the people who have heard him, I think point is that Magma aren’t as well known as they deserve to be so a lot of people don’t even know who Vander is
Wow. Drummers are commonplace. Really great drummers like this are rare.
His style is unique because he's playing drums to fit and accent the music, which he has writes for piano and voice first.
I think I watched this at least 10 times, and think it's time for a big thank you to the uploader 😉
Christian Vander è immenso! Assoluto ! Inossidabile! Tecnicamente fuori dal comune! 🖤
One of the best drummers ever seen.
Saw him live around 1980in Milano and I still remember that concert.
Thanks Magma, thanks Christian.
You will always remain in my heart
my god, he doesn't play the drums, he IS the drums!!!!
ahahah thats it .the Band
You made me drop a tear. You nailed it.
The man is a master!!!!! Thank you for a wonderful 49th birthday at the Highline Ballrooom 9.20.10 NYC Christian Vander
I'm so glad they still play this tune live. Attahk kinda gets some bad reviews because it's more...funk/jazz/rock oriented, but to me, it's some of Magma's strongest and most beautiful work! You can listen to it in almost any frame of mind...not so with records like Udu Wudu...I can't listen to that one or MDK all the time...makes me crazy!! However, sometimes that madness is welcome...long live Magma!!
Moot, i did not know you where a Magma fan!!
attahk is my favorite magma album, no idea why it gets hate
This is obviously amazing for the ears but I must say, as a drummer, it is also amazing to watch and learn from.
Thanks so much for posting this. What an amazing drummer Christian is--and how unique his music is! He plays with more intensity and skill than any drummer I can think of, and he hasn't lost one bit of his energy or passion over the years. In fact, I think he's better now than he was back in Magma's heyday. I've been a fan since the late 60s, and I will continue to be as long as he keeps playing.
The break at 4:48 is insane, it blends perfectly into the bass riff
i love that part
After all the outstanding drummers dropped the hat, Vander still delivers!!!!
Attahk is an alltime favorite album of mine. Merci is as well.
The most dynamic band on the planet!✌️
When Vander plays the drum kit looks alive....
Fantastic. I was at this gig ✨
Great band. Amazing live. C. Vander's sound reminds me very much of Tony Williams' sound. Tuned very much the same. That high pitched kick drum and the open tuned toms etc. Also some of his playing is similar to TW. Very energetic and musical. CV is also a great composer. Peace.
still love your drumming!!
Ouf ...!
I love MAgma Attahk, best album ever, best drumming ever from mr Vander, love it , love also the album cover by HR Giger
Magma deserve to be world superstars!
what a pleasure to watch him play: totally integrated.
Dunno how I missed this one. Great version, very close to original in the beginning and then... spaceship takes off. Magma's pulse is as powerful as ever. Hats off.
Finest 🌀 Magma.
Christian's playing still stuns. merci.
Fantastic,wonderfull,amazing...
he is the GENGIS KHAN REENCARNATED AND THE SUPREME drumer thank you mr VANDER FOR SPICE MY LIFE ........ THANK YOU
Oh my gosh, this is fucking awesome.
Incredible band! Christians playing style reminds me of Jon Hiseman.
I like prominent role of cymbals...unique style...
My Fav Magma track - awesome Drumming
Spettacolo puro!!!
so groovy
7:46 "Sounds good, maybe I should hit this symbal softly...
7:51 ... Nah, changed my mind"
machine konstruktive!
Thank you very much for this. Now I know that I must get that dvd!
Magma remain one of the few bands that are much better live than on record. Not that their recordings are bad mind you.
Very true
Saw them around 20 times from 1977... all the shows were pure magic
@@jpslebassiste Wow! I'm jealous, very cool. I wish they toured the US more.
@@Darrylizer1 :) I could say the same thing about so many US bands that are not often coming round here in the south of France... You do have so many great bands... I'd love to have seen the Allman bros. band for instance... too late ! Here we only have Magma which is really great, 50 years in the business now and starting only by these days to be really appreciated abroad (the US, Japan, Scandinavia and south America mostly), it's a pity that in their own country they only have a small (but very loyal) bunch of fans...
@@jpslebassiste Haha, the grass is always greener on the other side as they say. I'm just glad that Magma are still going strong.
@@Darrylizer1 Truth yeah !! I had the tickets for a show last april 20 miles from my place, cancelled of course for some f...ng covid reason... there is a new killer line-up with Jannick Top's son (Jimmy) on the bass... can't wait they start to tour again...
This was an absolute joy to hear and watch! :)
I saw them in the 90’s in London, 15 minute drum solo, only Bonham had previously kept me engaged in a drum solo for that long but Vander got added to my very short list!
I once saw him do a 45 minutes drum solo even (yes, 45), and not one second of it was boring. It was totally awesome!
I am a drummer myself and play in the band "Dark Goddesses" consisting of 6 women (all multi-instrumentalists, though not equally good on all of them; there are some instruments they excel in). My wife Jeanine excels in keyboards, especially piano, and vibraphone, our daughter Alice excels in guitar and trumpet, the other daughter Dorothy excels in cello, violin and acoustic and electric bass, my wife's sister Beatrice excels in flute and saxes, her wife Charlotte excels in harp and koto, and my best instruments are drums, vibraphone and electric bass. But we are all quite competent on lots of other instruments as well and swap a lot during our concerts. We all sing too and have some a capella parts in our music as well. We sometimes give very long concerts; our longest song is actually 5 hours long. When we play that one we all have little breaks, and we will understandably play only one short encore afterwards.
Like Magma we have a concept. We are six ancient Greek Goddesses who all reside in the darkest part of the Greek Underworld, the Erebos. Jeanine is Ἑκάτη (Hecáte, the Goddess of Witchcraft; the "H" is not pronounced, and the stress is on the second syllable; the ´ marks the stressed syllable in all names), Alice is Ἀληκτώ (Alectó, the Punisher of Moral Crimes; one of the three Ἐρινύες or Erinýes in the Latin alphabet), Dorothy is Τισιφόνη (Tisiphóne, the Punisher of Murder; one of the three Ἐρινύες), Beatrice is Μέγαιρα (Mégaera, the Punisher of Marital Infidelity; one of the three Ἐρινύες), Charlotte is Ἔρις (Éris, the Goddess of Strife, Discord and Chaos) and I, Friederike, am Περσεφόνη (Persephóne, the Goddess of the Underworld).
Since all six Goddesses have been occasionally portrayed as having snakes instead of hair on the head we had special wigs made of snakes made for us with little motors in them that really move. We all wear ancient Greek gowns too. All Goddesses have colours associated with them too (orange for Hecáte, yellow for Alectó, red for Tisiphóne, violet for Mégaera, black for Éris and green for Persephóne); the gowns and snakes are in these colours, and we paint ourselves head to toe in them too. We even sing in ancient Greek. We have not done a concert dressed like this yet; we had been a band before and performed on stage but only recently came up with this concept. The ancient Greek Goddesses had always been a concept, including the gowns, but the painting and the snakes are a new idea and haven't been tried on stage yet. All Goddesses will demonstrate some magical powers on stage too; we are currently working on the special effects for this with a friend who is a technician. There will be a lot of mad cackling on stage too from all Goddesses.
We hope our concerts will come across as dark and eerie as we want them to be.
@@BaldJean no Dark Goddesses vids on your channel?
@@hazelthemcwitch There aren't any yet. But there will be in the future.
@@BaldJean your band sounds fascinating would like to see you play 👍🏼
@@hazelthemcwitch One wouldn't suppose that a harp can sound evil, but in the hands of a true master like Charlotte even the acoustic harp can. And she has an electric harp too; when she adds some sound effects to her playing the electric harp sounds totally horrifying.
having a hard time believing this is even possible
Excellent.
great drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GENIO..
Wonderful.
beautiful monster
This is one of the best things I've ever seen.
my God !
Who would put thumbs down???
Syncopé de bout en bout. Respect M. Vander ♥
HOLY FUCK
Génial...
Zëbëhn Straïn Dëh Geustaah!!! 🤗🤗🤗
And to say that this man’s #1 drumming inspiration is none other than Charlie Watts from The Rolling Stones. Supposedly, he still aspires to play as good as him. Incredible.
Umm.... Elvin Jones I think. Its unlikely that Vander ever listened to the Stones very much.
I understand the singers part is cut to focus on drums but, too bad the incredible « break » that opens the solo part is missing! Find it on epok 3
A few times, you also get a nice view of the bass fretwork in this song. If this is the same lineup as for K.A, then that would be Philippe Bussonnet playing...that guy is an -awesome- bassist! Nice to see exactly what CV is doing as well. Merci.
magnifique
eso es arte en la bateria!!!
waoouuh!!! quelle energie!!!
XOXO

Cela n'a rien à voir ! Merci !
@cyberskelet0n I'm not a Magma hardcore fan, but I do know some albums you mihht like to try. Actually,I have a very simple suggestion: one album from each main era (and there's a few!): I pesonnally like:
Kobaïa -1970, 1001 degres centigrades -1971, Mekanïk destruktïw kommandöh -1973
, Attahk (including the last 7minutes) -1978
These are only a fistful of their albums, always discovering something new in them. Mr Vander has composed and played HIS music for more than 40 years!
This tune just opened me up to this band. Never heard a thing by them before and I'm very impressed.
Can anyone suggest what else I should listen to by Magma after this?
Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré is good for getting into their real sound i think

fantasmagoric !

Chapeau bas monsieur Vander!!!
he almost lost it at 1:48
@foutupourfoutu a cause d'une tendinite...
magma is huge the set up is terrible. I remember the 78 tour. then 2021. it is one of the great groups in the world. energy, finesse emotion.
