- Check out our 5 Day Overland Trip to Cape Lookout National Seashore (Harkers Island) and the Southern Outer Banks. We left from Tennessee traveling to the coast of NC where we would take a ferry ride into the ocean to be be dropped off onto an island for 3 days before heading to Oyster Point Campground in NC. We are all a part of the East TN Overlanders and cannot wait until our next trip to the island!!
Check back soon for a "recovery video", as one of us got a little stuck in the sand. If you like videos filled with adventure, overlanding, camping and much more....SUBSCRIBE to our CZcams Channel!!

Great video. We moved to NC 4 years ago and I’m gearing up for my first trip to the Cape with my Tacoma. Really enjoyed your video. Awesome set up.
Nice docuvideo thanks for sharing with the world.
Looked like an awesome trip. That’s definitely one for the list to do
It was great and we will definitely be back!
Thanks for the video. We are planning a trip to Cape Lookout at the end of April.
Have fun and as always, adventure on!
Thanks for sharing this video anazing
No problem, glad you enjoyed it!!
Can you share what kind of large rugs that you guys are using?
Thank you
Thanks for the video. Could you please tell me the make on the trailer being pulled by the blue Chevy? My wife and I have been day camping & surf fishing on Ocracoke for years and have always wanted a trailer like that. We have an FJ Cruiser which is limited on space & a trailer like that would make the beach trips more enjoyable,
Thank you.
It is a custom built CVT (Cascadia Vehicle Tent) trailer. It is on the heavy side due to being full steel though....And the accessories make it even heavier. He has the lid to the trailer on hydraulic lifts to aid in lifting to gain access inside. We are currently discussing doing a walk around video of his rig also, to include the trailer!
@@TNTOverlander Thank you for the information....maybe we'll see you there one day!
Assuming you all explored the whole island, where do you suggest camping? We've never been and we have a trip planned for October. I have tried to do research but can't find any suggestions on general area to camp.
If you are wanting to use the amenities provided (showers/bath house) I would suggest not going too far from the ferry drop off ramp. Definitely make your way to the end of the island at least one day because the views are amazing but not optimal for camping! Watch out for turtles and definitely stay off the dunes! Also, plan on taking lots (and we mean lots) of bug spray!
@@TNTOverlander awesome thank you!
What kind of tarp is that you're using under your annex ?
It’s a Australia made camp tarp! We will see if we can get the brand for you!
What are their amenities? Do they have bathrooms?
There are bathrooms, with showers inside if needed, on the island. You can also book/rent a cabin on the island but we are not sure what all they include. I would contact Cape Lookout Cabins & Camps to verify information regarding the cabins. Throughout the island there are 2 bathrooms we ran into, one where the ferry drops you off and one on the southbound side of the island at the lighthouse.
@@TNTOverlander Thanks
Who did you contact for camping on cape lookout on the beach? 😍
Hello, We actually just booked our ferry ride with the Cape Lookout Cabins & Camps. Once your ferry ride is booked you are all set to camp on the island. Make sure you pre-book (with plenty of time) as slots fill up quickly!!
FYI....new for 2021, you need a permit to drive on the beach ($25). www.nps.gov/calo/planyourvisit/orv_ed_certificate.htm
@@leenestle if you are on cape lookout, you will get your permit upon checking into the island.
@@TNTOverlander below directly from NPS site.
NEW! -- Starting with the 2021 season -- The ORV Driving Permit replaces the ORV Educational Certificate. While there was no charge for the Educational Certificate, there will be a charge for the ORV Driving Permit.
Obtain the ORV driving permit through recreation.gov
(If you need to use the search box -- use "Cape Lookout National Seashore ORV Permits" as your search criteria)
All vehicles will need to have this permit to drive on the islands. The ORV Driving Permit must be purchased online, for a fee of $25, prior to arriving on the islands through the recreation.gov website. Park staff will not be able to issue the permits on the islands. The permits will not be available until February of 2021.
A printed copy of the permit must be carried in the vehicle while it is on the island. NOTE: To print out your permit: On the confirmation page/email of your permit purchase go to the "details" button on the bottom of the page and follow that link. On the details page there is a "print" button. This will allow you to print your permit.
@@leenestle great new information!! Thank you for adding, as I did not know that!
