Sea Trial: Lobster Boat

- In this video we take the Lobster boat, now christened "Orca," out for a Sea Trial. This has been a long running project here at Seaboard Marine, and it's been great working with Andrii, who performed much of the work himself. Starting with a bare hull in early 2018, Andrii, Frank, and the Seaboard Team worked over 2 years to bring this vessel to life. With power steering, huge bait and live wells, mast and booms, transom mounted net guard, large net reel and extensive hydraulics... this vessel has it all! Powered by a Cummins QSL 9 with a DMT Transmission this vessel made good speed and exceeded our expectations during the trials.

About time you west coast guys figured out that you can't go wrong with a good old down east lobster boat design.
I forgot to mention your videos have helped me with my first big boat. I’ve been working on my 1982 Bertram 38 mark III. I recently used the information from your videos to rework and modify my sea strainers adding a freshwater flush.

The designed of the boats bottom, I think it makes it go faster then other boats I've seen. It would only make sense the lighter the boat,

This is one of my favorite channels! Another awesome project and video. Tony mentioned making the boat safe. I know you guys mainly do marine mechanical and fiberglass but could you go over what is involved in a good safety inspection for an offshore charter boat? Another great video and an awesome boat!
I think that one gets a bit out of my wheelhouse. Tony is pretty familiar with that stuff, but most of our customers deal directly with the coast guard for inspections. I am sure the coast guard has some documentation on that. If any of our viewers know some good resources please share.
My brother has a 40' H&H rock solid boat. Rides as good as it looks.
Wish some Maine boat builders would start a channel like this..

how does a lobster boat like this work?
This boat has a pinch puller to pull lobster traps, which are set with bait on the sea floor. Also has some other fishing gear such as a net reel for deploying and reeling in a large net.
What weight does the vessel come to. Great job

@@as8076 H&H is an osmond Beal design, probably with Calvin's input. H&H builds them. Calvin Beal has his own 42 made by southwest boats in lamoine Maine I think. All cool boats built for the rough coast of maine, solid glass hulls with no coring, I know some have 17 layers of glass, they are beasts that they build up there in maine..
