  • Walking around Tampere City Centre, August 2021, Finland. Tampere is a city in Pirkanmaa in the western part of Finland. Tampere is the second-largest urban area and third most-populous individual municipality in Finland, after the cities of Helsinki and Espoo and the most populous Finnish city outside the Greater Helsinki area.
Tampere was granted full city rights 1779. Tampere grew as a major market town and industrial centre in the 19th century; the industrialization of Tampere was greatly influenced by the Finlayson textile factory, founded in 1820. Other notable industries that followed Finlayson's success in the 1800s were Tampella blast furnace, machine factory and flax mill, Frenckell paper mill, and Tampere broadcloth factory. The world-famous Nokia Corporation, a multinational telecommunication company, also started in the Tammerkoski area; company's history dates from 1865.

First of all -onnea for video number 150! I'm happy also on my nameday to watch this amazing walk in my favourite Tampere, just a perfect walk! Tampere is the largest inland city in all 5 nordic countries. When you entered Finlayson factory area in 27:05 on the wall on the left side it was writen Plevna( restaurant and brewery). The name Plevna is actually the bulgarian city Pleven. In 1877/78 there was a war for freedom of Bulgaria and Russia was helping against Ottoman Empire. There were also finns solgers involved. There was a battle in Pleven. Anyway, kiitos for this video exactly today on my nameday!

What a great coincidence! You're welcome :) While uploading the video, I was thinking of that you told earlier Tampere being your favourite Finnish city.
I have been in the Plevna restaurant some years ago, but didn't remember the name coming from Bulgaria. Some really interesting history!
More walks from Tampere coming pretty soon...
