OFAH deserves its place as the UK's most popular sitcom. I find Fawlty Towers to be more consistently good, but it's much shorter, so OFAH has more total entertainment value.

Part of the joke with 'GLC' was that, at the time, it stood for Greater London Council.

I had a friend like del boy, in the late 80s he had one of the first mobile's it was about the size of a shoe box it had, like a domestic hand piece, one of the funniest thing's I have ever seen was when he was walking round trying to get a signal, he got the signal at the side of 4 pay phones, he stood there shouting into this phone, at that time a mobile cost about 75p a minute, and a pay phone was 10p a minute he just couldn't see why people where walking past him laughing, happy day's have a good day guys

64 eps during 22 y from 1981-2003 - very few UK sitcoms are that long in number of eps or years.

Del often does not realise he has been duped himself so he innocently sells stuff to his mates.

OFAH started on a low budget & wasn't expected to be a major success. David Jason had previously starred in the sitcom Lucky Feller & Nicholas Lyndhurst was in the sitcom Butterflies, but neither were properly famous before OFAH.

The new remotes communicate through a standardised protocol via the HDMI connection 👍Edit: My first mobile phone was a Mitsubishi Roamer in 89, I've had one ever since but in the last couple of years I've divorced it, I turn it off at 6pm and it stays off until 7.30am. I still have the Matrix Nokia from the mid 2000's on my desk!

You guys are hilarious. My first mobile was a Siemens S10 in 1997 when I started contracting in IT, it was like one of those extra-long sized candy bars with a short stub antenna. It was 'retired' for the most ridiculous of reasons - the small plastic catch that kept the battery cover closed had broken, and the phone was too old by that stage so the repair centre could not get replacement parts!
After my third RAZR developed a keyboard fault, I resisted going to a smart phone - I really detest the way they have turned people into zombies - so I took my second RAZR, a 2006 V3i model, out of retirement and I am still using it today. Getting genuine Motorola batteries is an issue, but that's another story altogether. So the RAZR is my favourite too.

Mine was a BT CELLNET U. I'm sure it was 1998. I remember the advertising for it. Because it was pay as you go phone they made the printed adverts look like the mobile phone has a coin slot that you would insert money money into only as you needed to use it. I had convinced myself that this is how it would work. Maybe someone called each month to empty it of coins.

If you want to see a mobile phone from 1986, do a search on Alex Higgins BBC Documentary People’s Champion and fast forward to the 46th minute. The phone appears a few seconds later, but it’s worth tuning in earlier for the … erm … headgear! Higgins, now no longer with us, was a big snooker star in the 70’s and 80’s. Playing style wise, he was the Ronnie O’Sullivan of his era. Expect you don’t know about Alex, but hope the Ronnie comparison helps!

The initials of Trotters Independent Traders was always a bit of an in-joke throughout the series. They just happened to highlight the fact in this episode. Del Boy was what they used to call a, 'wheeler dealer', who basically tried to sell on cheap, (due to some defective or other), items in the hope those he sold them to didn't notice until the money had exchanged hands and he wasn't around when they discovered they'd bought a load of rubbish. Mind you, those buying are equally to blame, thinking they're getting a bargain for something that would normally cost much more than the asking price from Del.
