St. John De Brebeuf and The North American Martyrs, the "Founding Fathers" of Faith in North America show us how to win people for Jesus. It might not require our deaths, but it always costs our lives.
Thanks Chris for this wonderful video. I am now a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Jackson in the state of Mississippi. Prior to become a priest, I was a consecrated Catholic lay missionary. I spent two of my years as a lay missionary in Canada serving in an inner city soup kitchen and food bank in the city of Winnipeg. I also spent a year in the province of Alberta, serving part of that time in a healing center for indigenous people trying to overcome addictions. Jean de Brebeuf and Isaac Jogues are heroes of mine as well. Thank you as always for your joyful faith and for this wonderful video.
I love all these saint stories! St. John Paul II, St. Faustina, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and now, the North American Martyrs! They are all so inspiring! God bless you. Greetings from the Philippines.
In grade 7, our class trip was to the Martyrs Shrine and Huronia village as part of our Canadian history. No teachers, nor anybody in the class, were even Catholic.
I see you came to Martyr's Shrine in Midland, Ontario. Hope you enjoyed your visit to our lovely country. May The Lord continue to bless your vocation. Videos are awesome.
Paulina Paplinski BUT, has Paulina EVER HAD a REAL DEEP Thought About, ANYTHING!!!????? Is your WHOLE Brain, just a Wasteland of Ladie-Dadie-Dahhhhh????
I jus took the content of this video to prayer. It dawned on me how saints that suffer "red martyrdom" (the shedding of blood for Christ) always undergo "white martyrdom" first (dying to self). We are all called to white martyrdom. Even if we don't shed our blood for the Lord, we will experience a happy death if we come to possess ourselves through dying to self during our earthly pilgrimmage.
Thank you Chris..I was trying to look for more info on the Canadian Matyrs.. today on the feast day sep 26, 2022...i am so glad I came across your video!!thank you Brother. You are always amazing in your ministry.
A camp i went to as a youth is named after the N.A.M. They teach a little about them when you are there. It still shakes me to the core to think of the things those men of God went through to save as many souls as they could. If only we all could live by that example today. This world would be an entirely different place. May God continue to guide you on the amazing path he has set before you and Bless you along the way. You do great things.
Thank you for sharing. The only complaint is that the music was too loud at times, almost drowning out the commentator. Please be aware that hearing impaired people are Catholics too! :)
I have a feeling in fifty to a hundred years that someone will be making a video or a series of videos about a saint that lived in the 21st century known as Chris Stefanick and how he helped changed peoples thoughts on the church and her teachings and reconnected them to Christ... you're definitely on your way to sainthood my friend. God bless.
first american martyr; Father Juan de Padilla a Franciscan ambushed by the Quivira tribe, as Father was on his way to visit a rival tribe. 1542 near the geographical center of present day usa.
is there a difference? if you are not leading them to Christ, you can call it 'dis-service,' and if you bring them closer to Christ, it is called service.
al meggs In the Catholic Church, a "saint" is anyone in Heaven, whether recognized on Earth or not. We don't know whether aborted babies make it to Heaven or to Limbo, but if they are in Heaven, yes, they are also saints.
The desire to convert people does lead to cultural change, some for the better. Sometimes it’s done with no respect for indigenous culture/the good in the culture you’re bringing Jesus to. And that’s wrong. To be fair to them, I think the French Jesuits of that era were better at inculturation/preserving culture while also bringing Jesus than most were. The colonization was coming. The Jesuits didn’t cause that. If they weren’t there it’s arguable that the French would have just steamrolled the Huron and things would have been far worse. In the midst of the turmoil of colonization he loved, befriended, tried to defend, preserved the language of, and eventually died with (and out of love for) the Huron. Their villages looked very much the same/Huron by the time he’d died. +Christianity. Which, if you think that’s a negative, I can’t convince you otherwise in this thread. I obviously don’t. The Iroquois, prodded by the British and armed with their gunpowder, led to the eventual slaughter of the Huron. i think Your take on brebeuf is myopic and overly simplistic if that’s your summary of him.

One of my favorite Saints!
This video is brilliant in it's simplicity. Great work Chris!
Wonderful! We do need prayer. Mortification. then, action.
I love learning about saints.. Thanks for this 👍👍👌regards from Shillong India

I grew up on stories of the North American martyrs. I was fascinated by what was done to St. Isaac Jogues hands and the pope’s dispensation.
Thank you
Very well done
Insightful spiritual and incredibly inspiring!
God Bless you!

Thanks, Chris.
I'm not Catholic, but wow! That was stirring and greatly powerful. Wonderfully done.
Thank you for posting this and for sharing your insight and faith. You help your brothers and sister in Christ to see. God Bless you abundantly.

Chris, you brought up an interesting question. How to spread the gospel without crushing the culture?
Deep 💟
What's the instrumental
Nicely done! Only comment would be to turn down the background music. It was hard to hear you at points.

As a priest and missionary, I love the phrase, "looking for souls to serve."

Souls to serve? How about souls to save!
I just remembered
When I first read the title
I thought it was going to be
About the ~70 million babies aborted ~also saints?

But he also participated in the colonization and cultural genocide of Indigenous people.
