  • Owning a car in New York City is both a luxury and a challenge. The expense, the hassle of parking, and if you would even use the car enough to justify having it are all important things to think about. In this video, I and a few other knowledgeable New Yorkers are going to discuss everything you need to consider when making the decision for yourself: Is having a car in NYC worth it?
Thank you so much to ‪@ActionKid‬, ‪@SieraAlexis‬, Pedro, & Ross for making this video significantly better than I could have on my own. Please go show them some love!

Interesting video and good tips as well Hannah. I say to myself not to have a car here in NYC yet. I’ve learned to drive my brother’s car with no license, took some driving lessons when I traveled outside the city and went to spend the weekend at a cabin house neighborhood in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania closer to Scranton City back in November last year. Still better for me taking the city transportation, that makes a lot easier than having a car can make things difficult and depending to find parkings around the city.

Great video! I would recommend car in NYC if any of these apply :
    1) Money isn't an issue
    2) Elderly / Disabled or hard to get around
    3) You live in a transit desert
    4) Your job requires it
    5) If you do long trips frequently
    6) If you have small children or others you need to drop off

I can’t imagine paying over $3000 for car insurance.

I don't live in NYC but I visited it and NO, I would not have a car. I prefer taking the NYC Transit as it's much cheaper, no worries and hassle-free. Great information for anyone thinking of driving in NYC.

Great informative episode, Hannah! I can’t imagine having a car with the gas prices and possibly having to drive around for an hour or more just waiting for a spot! Plus, with the blizzard today there’s the added headache of having to dig out after the plow buries the car! No thank you, lol! I’ll take the subway, walk, or ride share!

There is totally a love / hate relationship about driving in New York. I do have my license but I'm not the greatest driver. Even when I would drive into the city with others, there are some interesting people out there. The way others drive around us, it can get a little ridiculous !!! When I was younger and living in Brooklyn, my family didn't want to spend so much on the garage. Free street parking but sometimes it would be a pain because people would take certain areas, you're used to..... worst is when it would rain or snow. Such a great video as always!!!

You gave a lot of interesting tips I think if I lived in New York in the city I would not have a car gas prices where I live in Florida or even expensive thank you for the wonderful video and being straightforward

Hi Hannah 🌸 Having a car or no car is something someone moving here can overlook . It's expensive, parking is a hassle and a person is spending a lot of money for a car that is parked and maybe not even driven most days. Definitely no need for car in Manhattan , maybe in some of the outer parts of Brooklyn, Queens , SI , etc that don't have close subway as you point out! Traffic can be insane and it takes awhile for a person to learn how to get around driving! 🐷🍒 I highly recommend this video to anyone thinking about the plus and minus of a car ! 🥀🐶

Great content, thanks for sharing Hannah. I'm also considering owning a car in NYC, can you share a little of the total estimated cost (parking, insurance, gas, etc) of owning a car each month?

    • @therealhannahlee
      @therealhannahlee  Před 2 lety +2

Thank you! 😊 The cost could vary a lot depending on where you live, how frequently you drive, etc. I would look at the garage prices in your area, think about how much gas you’ll use per month, etc. Depending on parking alone, the cost could vary by several hundred dollars.

When driving in NY, and other large cities, I go crazy spending half my day sitting at red lights.
You should consider doing vlogs about you, as opposed to giving advice. Try to make them a little more personal, like what stresses do you have to deal with, or perhaps give your opinion about something non-political.
