Keep things rusty, except your tools!
Pretty cool to see this old engine get taken down and reworked 👌
WHOA! On-camera appearance!!!
Hahaha! Excellent video, brother!
Love the sound of a Ford flathead V8.
Stayin tuned! 🤠👍
Nice to have something to do that doesn't involve being neck deep in snow... 🇬🇧👍
Ain't likely the local parts store stocks the pieces for that. Glad it's all usable.
I am so glad to see a young fellow that wants to bring the old girls back to life again. Always enjoy all your videos. Keep making videos. Always learn something new. Thanks for sharing.
Way to kickoff 2023 with a brilliant tear down educational and instructional style-bravo! ❤️🔧✌🏻
i have never seen an american truck besides newish ford ranger here in croatia, but i still stick to watching this stuff same with zip ties n bias plies, VGG, junkyard digs, dylan, thunderhead, just pure enjoyment to see how much stuff you guys have on hand, whilst here in europe, you couldn't get shit for simple engines, emissions, european wiring, (worse then dodge) ... but i find your work up there with the stars of old revive n drive content and i think you should have more recognition
Check out Hodge Podge Garage is another good channel to check out. Also JC Smith is really good too.
That all looks really good. As stuck as that piston was I thought You were going to find s lot more junk. 👏👏👏
Great project Sir. Anxious to hear the old girl purring again, as my first drive was a 1951 Ford Flathead V-8 F-1 pickup!! Love that you are collecting those Ford trucks! Thanks for great videos, and commentary. Nice to have a face to match the voice also, Thanks Again !!
Cool to see a flathead taken apart. I have never done that before. Small block Chevy many times. Thanks for the video 👍
Always look forward to your video's love Rust Something about bringing something back alive 😁😁😁
Great discription on the valve train, I wonder if Mortski watches your channel, maybe he'd put down his hammer. Keep up the good work, love watching your content.
Looking forward to the build up, never worked on a flathead before 👍🇺🇸🤘🔥🔥
NICE expanation and congratulations on your channel! Happy New Year.
Thanks for sharing Your efforts with us
You make the chanel a success keep doing what you do best down to earth but very entertaining well done.
Sorry meant to say Happy New year
The difficult stuff is just beginning, broken fasteners and let's all keep are fingers crossed for the valve seats, that's where things can get a little dicey
Studio is it now! 👍
Saving the old iron. Look forward to the renew. :)
Nice, looks like that engine wasn’t abused; just the water damage. 👍
Your last will it start was a easy one to share with a lot of channels who were whining about how cold it is down in the continental states. I am a cripple so all I do is veg in a chair watching other channels as well. Broad variety of contents, making it so easy to copy and paste that last one on their channel with a reason of "You think its cold?" Try my neighborhood as I live in wasilla. I have got several of those who respond to our comments.... they are just amazed we are alive/LOL. It was down to a plus twenty in some states and when they seen your video.... I do hope it gets views and most important, subscribers... why not shoot for the hundred thousand on your channel is my quest. I'm a ford guy, 73. wrenched most of my life and worked on the 337 ford/lincoln engine... they are similar but way different in others. Like no pilot bearing hole in the crank on the car engine, other stuff as well. Saving your crank ws imperative!! Hard to find as I remember
You deserve all the followers!! You are always putting out great content!!
Very cool video, I've built a few engines but have never worked on a flathead. Pretty interesting to say the least. Thanks for sharing!
Nicely done young Man, very informative too. 👍
Great indoor project for the weather outside. 😎👌
Superb breakdown, especially in your explanation of how lifters work in a flathead, as well as their unique distinction. The cam bearings looked pretty good; methinks this had at least one rebuild in its life. The galley looks respectable, not gunky. That block is an excellent candidate for a final magnaflux before the rebuild begins. I am confident that someone in your circle has a kit you can borrow to check for cracks. Look forward to the next episode, and I congratulate you on your channel's growth. Your mix of wintery snark and clever humor married to some pretty good knowledge gives you the kinds of cred that will welcome more viewers. Happy New Year, and wishes for more good things in '23. Cheers!!!
Thanks for watching! Be sure to go check out Waylon Wire’s Old Iron!

I've never got to mess with an old flathead v8 but I've kinda always wanted one. Neat to see how it all work and comes apart.
yes - HNY - this is how life goes - looking forward to seeing more inspiring classy rusty content !
Cool
Great Video! Happy New Year.
Since you've gotten that stuck piston removed that block is looking great. Those lifters were showing a beautiful wear pattern, and your cam still had good triangulation in the lobes. They sure don't make engines that simple anymore.
Hey backyard ALASKAN full of subarctic temperatures----that most people would not understand' not trying to be sarcastic but just living here you can't imagine extremities of the cold!
Good-Show
Ford continued those style of tappets (lifters) in their Y block motors. I’m currently helping my neighbors redo their 272 and it has those style in it. Good job on the tear down and videos!
👍 👍 👍 👍
Coming along.
Reminds me of working on my 8N Ford engines. Looks like it's coming along pretty good.
Really glad to see you picking right up in 2023 after 2022! I must say you are a most impressive fellow. You know what you are talking about, keep it straight and steady, and educate us along the way! What more could one ask for. Ol Waylon is quite the character, I have been following him for a while now. Anyway, keep the course, all the best, and God Bless to everyone.
Good tutorial!
almost 30K..amazing..and many more subs and views in the channels future..done a heck of a job that prolly surpassed your original goals..that is what great content and an enjoyable presentation will do..
Your mechanical sense and organizational skills are a real pleasure to watch! The commentary is always just right. The young actor you have doing the actual work is very good and doesn't ham it up with silliness! Thanks for sharing!
Great job! I like your shop. Organized and neat.
Enjoy your video's. I have always liked flat head motors . I don't know why just do. So it's nice to watch you go through the steps of tear down . Hopefully the going back together. Thanks for sharing.
some great insight on the tear down thanks
Good looking block, I wonder if she will need seats and a few valves. I will stay tuned to the next BYA Show and Army Truck Collection... Love the vids
That was a great video. Explained a lot to me. Keep up the great work and I look forward to this year’s content 😊
The way I understand it, hydraulic lifters are self adjusting and the reason we don't have to adjust modern engine valve clearances every few thousand miles.
Would the block fit in a 55 gallon drum to try cooking it with a battery charger? Might help get the water jackets opened up good. Definitely going to be a running when you're done with it.
The truck motors got solid lifters. The car 337s had hydraulics
Good point, I forgot to mention that!
Congrats on your subs!
👍
How is this project going? I haven't seen any new episodes on this project.
I think these are the only ford flat heads with larger intake valves than exhaust from the factory . ?
Is that not the 8BA block? I was suprised the valve guides, spring, an valve didn't come out as a unit like on mine. Found your Channel looking at came replacement videos. I have a cousin who lives in Anchorage
8EQ Block, the industrial 337 Flathead is its own animal and very unique from the conventional motors. Thanks for watching.
@BackyardAlaskan that's interesting. I looked back through a few of you4 videos and saw where it was bolted to something that looked like a reverse tractor lol. I learned recently that they actually made flathead for the French military up until the 80s
Not a Ford flathead (that's a Lincoln) but this is a good video
It is not a Lincoln, it’s a Ford. Lincoln 337 motors had hydraulic lifters, along with the 8EL code cast onto the head.
@@BackyardAlaskan so what does yours say on the head? 🤣
Lincoln 337 had hydraulic lifters, the big ford 337 didnt
😛❤🦾🦴👍👍👍👍👍
Too bad these 337's are so heavy
And no hot rod parts for them
I really dig your channel and want to gift you something. It’ll change your life. Well, maybe not actually change your life, but you’ll still dig it. Do you have a P.O. Box or something?
I really appreciate that offer, however I prefer not to give out my information.
@@BackyardAlaskan Totally get that which is why I asked for a PO box. Anyway, the offer still stands if you can figure something out. Possibly I could send it to a friends business?
Anyway, again, dig your channel and wish you well.
