TWiV 1115: Calling the CoPs on flu
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 18. 05. 2024
- TWiV reviews results of a phase 3 trial of a self-amplifying mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, and the finding that baseline innate and T cell populations are correlates of protection against symptomatic influenza virus infection independent of serology.

- Who Am I? -
Iâm Vincent Racaniello, Earthâs Virology Professor, and I believe that education should be free.
Iâm also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. Iâve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this CZcams channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.
New videos are uploaded several times each week.

This is why I never get anything done. Thank you for the information. I'm 74 and have been a science student since high school.
I'm a perpetual student as well. I wouldn't get anything done either if I watched the video, but what I do is listen to the audio only with my ear buds in so I can multitask. On occasion there's a visual, so I'll pause for that, but most of the time I glean a lot from only listening. I hope you aren't hearing impaired, relying on seeing the closed captions. Then my reply is insensitive. It was not intentional.
@@patriciagiles5833 Ha, at 74 I'm no longer running marathons and multitasking. It's one thing at a time. My problem is that I put monitors all over the place so I can continue to watch video even if I turn around and stand upside down there's probably one on the ceiling.
I enjoyed Alan's BBC host voice.
Good job, TWiV team!
Wow!
I wish you couldâve talked more about the snippet
From January 2021-December 2021 I was a participant in the ARCT vax trial
I got booted out of the study just before what wouldâve been my third shot because apparently they had to change the protocol. At least now I know why
Thanks TWiV
I was one of the lucky audience members at twiv 1000 and Iâve been a regular listener since 9/21
Neat that you did this without Vincent !
I hope Vincent is having fun, it's odd not seeing him on TWiV. I'm glad we got Aland, Brianne, Dixon, and Alan's cat though.
In the main study at about 39 minutes Brianne is talking about protection from infection. I think she means protection from disease. The study refers to symptomatic infection, not infection.
Thank you guys for reviewing this study. I wish firewalls did not exist. I hated not being able to follow along.
Contamination, infection, disease (?)
No Vincent in this episode.
Re: about the articles brought up. I would worry about the overuse of nitrogen fixing. Sounds great but there is a general notice on the use of nitrogen fixing plants and their effects on effluent. You can end up with dead bodies of water similar to what happened to lakes and the use of detergents. Sediment full rivers changed banks readily in ancient civilizations. And it wasn't the only reason the cities moved. In the Tigres and Euphrates river basins, the issue of poor drainage, often led to salt incursion in these areas leading to changes in plants with different salt tolerances. An issue that still hurts farmers. The locations of cities can be quite distant to todays rivers. Lastly, a Spaniard was inspired to create his own sparkling wines after visiting Champagne using their methods. They use the Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel·lo grape varieties mostly with Chardonnay and Malvasia, Garnacha tinta, Monastrell, Trepat, and Pinot Noir being officially allowed (thanx wiki). Called Cava. The UK call their stuff sparkling wine but the taste is basically champagne. The Japanese make award winning whisky.
Re self replicating vaccines: I'm a bit concerned that from now on, so called placebo studies will just compare safety against the standard rmna vaccine, like the one approved in Japan, even though all we have is the fantastically delayed results of the placebo Pfizer covid vaccine trial, and there still are questions on the effects of synthetic capping and interferon suppression.
Great look into an interesting vaccine and technology. Especially in light a various anti-vax arguments that have arisen in recent years.
Shout out to wellington New Zealand!!! đđ
Iâm worried that your comments regarding targeting for vaccine development based on the COP paper assume causation where there is only correlation.
Please give us the time stamp. Then explain in long form. If no one else reads it I can assure you I will.
Also explain why if correlation and correspondence are the only data outcomes we have why should we wait for direct causation, when we should wait, and in which environments, and in what conditions should we wait?
Self Amplified? đź I have to Read this. Does it make sense if yes, explain Why? Would one become a Bio reactor
Smaller dosage.... Then amplyfy.... Then again high dosage.... S Is citotoxic
And Will atach ro ACE 2!!!! Better or worst for????? 800 are you kiding me!!!
That mimic infection
Depend of what cells will be transfected also
Didn't you folks just express concern about the lack of information about how long the "self replicating " vaccine replicates ? But right away you are discussing how to allay the publics fears about such a vaccine . Perhaps either enough research hasn't been done or it wasn't available to you folks in this discussion . I sure would want this vaccine . Also it may be a lower initial dose but then it replicates so perhaps the main advantage is less of the lipids that on TWIV were described as similar to but different from naturally occurring lipids . Maybe I missed it but does this vaccine cause the cells to create the spike protein just like mRNA vaccines ?
You people are completely insane.
What prompted that?
@@slofty A brain clot.
And youâre not, right?!đđ€Ș
Huh?
The hosts of the show? Or the listeners?
Be more clear next time.đ„ł
