I'm seeing a lot of people leave the US to leave the toxic parts of America behind, but accidentally bringing "the dream" with them.

Thanks you for this. I don't think I could have articulated this concept any better. As a Jamaican-American woman. I often take reflective stock of exactly what the hell I'm still doing here. I'm pretty accomplished...Ph.D., home owner (with no mortgage), RE investor, blah blah blah, but I'm friggin stressed. After decades of vacationing in Mexico, my plan was to move when my daughter went to college last year. Best laid plans are to be laughed at. Two years ago my mother was diagnosed with dementia and blindness , so I became her legal guardian and my daughter decided to stay home for college. For the last 2 years I've been fighting depression and anxiety. But, in January I took a trip to Cabo for my 50th birthday and it reinvigorated me to get back to my plan of moving to Mexico; now with my mother in tow (she turned 91 this week). I refuse to continue to live this propaganda of the "American Dream" any more. God willing, I'm half way through my life, and I'm ready to unplug from this American matrix and get back to enjoying and being appreciative of life, nature, that beautiful sunrise and the warmth of a welcoming culture and community. See you soon Mexico!!!

*It’s called the American Dream-because you have to be asleep to believe it.* and you can say that about the whole world, our world has owners, they own you and me and everything else, every 146 countries are in their pockets, they control it all, and It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it. Be happy with what you’ve got.
Because the owners, don’t want that. I’m talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.
Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought-and paid for-the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear.
They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want: --- They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 70 fucking years ago. They don’t want that!
You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends ---- How many Billions dollars signed by Trump himself just to throw on other 3rd world countries to spread the demoncracy??? ANd their own people in America sleeping under the tents on the streets because they have no available jobs for them, hard times, new world order, tyrant *goddamnsonsofbITCHes*

Working in America contributes to a self-devaluation of your existence at the expense of making others wealthy. Ones life, which is precious, should be predicated on self worth. Reflect upon all the not so hidden gifts and perfections that make you who you are. Most if not all Employers are tyrants. They don't care one iota about you, that is a reality a lot of us fail to want to comprehend. Chart your own path. Be strategic with your time and use employment as a stepping stone and not as your finality etched in stone.

Why is it that single women are smarter? They just know better. Good for them, I'm learning to break away from that traditional mentality that if you don't have a spouse or family that you can't be happy or are not good enough. I wish I knew better before I got tied up with someone. Lol.

Ooh Roshida you touched on some points that's gonna trigger some people 😅 but you definitely brought up some thought provoking questions for many of us to reflect on. Very necessary to think about our motives. Great video! Btw I love Timothy Ward. He speaks my language of unconventional living.

We all were sold the same thing. You gotta have a house, car, etc. by a certain age or ur looked at as a failure. Truth be told, those things can be taken away from you at any given time. That home that many folks think they "own" can be taken away if they're behind on their mortgage. I had a car last year & it got taken away from me all in 1 traffic stop so in actuality, we really dont own anything.

Work all the options in that 5 years. What is required from you to gain that double amount. These are some questions to ask your self. What is actually that amount? What are your expenses that are necessary. Personal time ,vacation time, Part time work. Basically be creative in the navigating this system. But honor thy self

Just my five cents. I am also over 50. Life is finite and how many years have we left. We don't know. Even more important how healthy and mobile are we in these left years. I happily retired early. Yes, I was able to. It always depends I know. Wish you all the best.

Wow! This video is right on time! It's so hard to get out of the American Dream mindset, but I find it's even harder to get other people to fully understand those who desire to do so. I think that lack of support through encouragement really holds many people back. I've learned, bad or good, "When we buy the opinions of others, we buy their lifestyle." I'm so glad I'm able to grow my courage from your journey and your videos. Thank you Shida!

We do need health insurance though. And it’s a huge factor that keeps many many Americans running on that hamster wheel considering the cost of health insurance here and how much it is tied to and typically offset by employers. (And it’s also the reason why I am totally open to leaving the US.)

interesting. I felt the American Dream the most as an Air Force brat....from birth until 22. I lived in Germany twice and loved european travel. My mom is Jamaican and my dad is Cape Verdean. Fast forward to George Floyd. Now its America the nightmare. I've detached. My kids are grown and my goal is to relocate abroad and use the US for investments only. I've been semi retired for 8 years and will continue to work in my own businesses until death. I like "my work" in "my businesses" with people that I like, etc. No corporate. As less stress as possible. I married the same man twice and divorced him twice. I like being on my own. I love my family. My ex and I get along wonderfully. I will never marry again. This American Experiment is exactly what it is....an experiment. My life and my family's future is to important to be left to a dream I didn't create nor a constitution which does not include my skin color. I'm done!

Thank you thank you thank you this is one of the most realistic giving up the American dream video that I have seen. Thank you, I'm seeing that some people simply don't want to do anything and exist and money come and that's not reality anywhere on Earth.
My version of giving up the dream has been going to part-time and cooking almost every meal at home and doing take out twice a month instead of 5 and 6 times a month, severely limiting my Amazon purchases, finding free events in the city instead of paying for events.
I find part-time to be tolerable and even the worst job is tolerable if it's only part-time. Lol

I’m looking to make my big move to Chapala Mexico next year. I only thought of buying for the security. I’ve read stories of folks getting kicked out once they fixed things up. Scary…. But I am rethinking that now. Prices have really jumped in the last year and are way inflated. Renting is a way better option now, plus would make things simpler for my estate if something happened to me, I would guess. Still need to research how that works. ( I have two doggies and want to live in a house.) If you could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. 😁. Thank you for this video!! 😘

I appreciate this video so much. I am 32 , career woman, married and honestly the career I worked so hard for does not bring me happiness and while I am tired of the rat race I realize I have not left the American dream behind but instead want to move because I feel it will be easier to obtain somewhere else. We are landlords and plan to put more money into real estate and long & short term leases. This has led me to reflect deeply. Thank you
