My journey to early retirement didn't look like most people's journey. I was traveling the world for about 6 months, before I realized that I didn't want to go back to work, and decided to retire. But years of debt freedom and financial independence allowed me to retire early.

I'm a few months shy of 34. I moved to S.Korea in 2018 and it changed my life. I knew I wanted a leisurely lifestyle as well so I started learning to trade stocks in 2019. Unfortunately I had a huge mishap that costed me around $20k in losses. Fortuately living abroad put me in a position to save and cover the loss in about a year. This could never have happened for me in NY. Now I'm focused more on long term investing and growig my money a bit wiser. I'm almost to 7 figures and I plan to move to Mexico around July/August. I will keep working and saving and investing for the next few year and hope to fully retiire before 40 as well. I love seeing examples of what the possibilities are.

Nice to see someone speaking to the fact that you don't need a million or more to retire. The high murder rate in Tijuana is mostly due to low level drug dealers killing each other. Mexicans call it the trash taking out the trash.
If you stay away from drugs youre safer there than the US. Lax gun laws in the US make Shopping at Walmart in Tijuana feel safe. Americans refuse to see juat how dangerous their country is not to mention the racism in the US is quite sickening.

Kudos for figuring it out so soon! I retired early, but still a couple of decades in life after you, and even though I have enough money to be modestly comfortable for the rest of my life, I'd probably still be working if it hadn't been a necessity, to be sole caretaker for my mom. I'm not free to travel outside the US at this point, since taking mom abroad would be both risky and a logistical nightmare, but even so, it's clear to me now that retiring when I did, if not sooner, would have been the smart move even without the need to care for mom. So many folks never figure out how much is enough, and stay on the treadmill to the bitter end. Thankful I won't be going down that road.

I am so glad I found your channel. I'mma park it here for a spell in order to see all that you have to offer. I retired early at age 50. That was16 years ago. I did it the old fashioned way. I married well. Unfortunately, I am now widowed but was left very well provided for and am charting this next stage of my life. The adventure continues as I un-apolgetically refuse to live the struggle life.

You are definitely my sister from another mister. I too had a stressful career and retired at 40. I have ZERO desire to commit to side hustles. My plan is to enjoy a life of leisure.

I am so proud of you. I am in debt and in grad school. However i am already hunkering down and planning to keep my debt low and retire by 50. Also I am retiring outside of the US. Amen. And I love to travel. I traveled the world for 11 years before heading back to school. LIved in China, visited every continent except Antarctica. Thank you. FIRE is for me. And you had me laughing throughout this video. That whole I am a lady of leisure and ain’t nobody got time for that attitude is you. Blessings. Have you thought about mentoring people on their FIRE journey? Our Rich Journey does. Just a thought. I would retire to Portugal, México, Costa Rica, Thailand, or Peru.

Love this video! I too retired early 8 years ago and booked one-way tickets to Malta after some lean FIRE, flipping houses, and saving enough $ to last till the 401k kicks in. I opened my Vanguard statement after about 4 years to see the balance and was thrilled to see l make more yearly by not working!😀. It's like the secret the top 10% don't want you to know. Living in Spain now, and no intention of going back. Ha! I love Mexico City. It's been a while though. Salud!

Yes! Definitely a sister from another mother. I paid my condo cash in the 09’ recession. And was burnt out from working. I got laid off in 2020 & now I’m tryna figure out how I can continue being a lady of leisure.

Love that! You'll find your way. It's not obvious at first, but most layoffs are gifts. Congratulations. 💛
