I did this poetry piece in speech and debate and won top 12 in my state. Best piece ever.

My English teacher showed us this in 6th grade and it was incredibly relatable. I loved it a ton, and I usually HATE poetry. This is truly amazing.

@ben teacher here. I worked as a lumberjack and worked in a mine... Teachers deserve more money. Not huge amounts, but more than they do now.

    • @Langharig_Tuig

@ben you've got so many things wrong... About all those days off. That's when we prepare lessons, plan excursions, grade tests and projects etc. Which roughly equals any other regular job. Yes, we do have more quite and kinda relaxed summervacations, but at other moments we make much longer days (around examweeks for example); it roughly is a 40 hour a week job like practically 95% of all jobs (at least over here)
Is our salary paid for by taxmoney? Half true, part comes from the governement, part comes from parents who you may consider "customers" in this equation and a small part comes from the school itself (who makes money through the sale of food and what not; I don't bother with the directionary board of the school)
      Are we governement employees?
Simple answer; No, no we are not. We're employed by a school or other educational institute, which in turn could be itself "employed" by the governement. But it's like a councilor wants to have road built somewhere in town, he gets a contractor, the contractor then hires other specialists to build the road. Are the roadbuilders employed by the governement? No.
Which bridges neatly into your statement of it being a low entry job... It isn't... It really isn't. It's an "evocational" study (university of applied science). Which means that a teacher is higher qualified than a construction worker; with an including higher salary. An important nuance to that: constructions make significantly more money than others with the same level of education and teachers make significantly less money than others with the same level of education
So... please, don't be that kind of dumb uncle stereotype and don't make a fool out of yourself...

@ben where are you from? Cause I don't know about teachers having 4 months off a year...
A lot of that "free time" is spent reading into your new students to see what their level is. Writing and updating methods and lessons. Summerschool.
Also, Mali is performing a poem, it's not an accurate description of what teachers do. I do hope you get the general idea he's trying to get across; teachers don't do it for the money cause you make jackshit, but you do it because you care about children and their (intellectual) development.
Also, nah. The smartest people don't drop out. There's a handfull of exceptions, people who in general are more charismatic and skilled in marketing to add to their intelligence. But the vast majority of whoever are the smartest people didn't drop out and went to university...

@ben yeah... about 99,9% of all the books we read and inventions we use are made by people who weren't so arrogant to think they had to beat the system and just went to uni and did their jobs well... In the vain hope that in the future we would have less people like you, ben...

When people say teachers only make what they're worth: "The President of the United States makes less money than the CEO of every FORTUNE 500 company."

Sorry, but he sounds like an arrogant dude. At the same time, the question about teacher's salaries was also rude, BUT two wrongs don't make a right. I am glad he was not my teacher.

    • @bl8680
      @bl8680 Před 4 lety +8

@@jenniferrose389 I know this comment was a year ago. I don't think arrogant is the best word... more like angry and you can't blame him. Afterall, good, caring teachers motivate and develop students and get paid nearly poverty levels. It's a huge injustice and I would like to know the reason this wrong continues. Why isn't this being changed? This teachers anger and defense is scary. But teachers get fed up and he set the record straight and shut those people down who ask arrogant questions like this! Good for him!

He legit says 8n the poem that he doesnt say anthing back to the man. And then he wrote a poem to express his feelings and his passion for something. 🙄 sit down.

Since he boasted about refusing students restroom trips, I hope one of them pisses in the waste basket.
