  • Matchbox has given the Moving Parts line a new sustainable packaging for 2024 -- but does the plastic-free packaging make the cars susceptible to easy damage? We unbox 10 models and see what the new design is all about.
    What do you think about the new packaging design? Let me know in the comments below.

    Really enjoy the super detailed reviews once again! Really sets this channel apart from others. I didn't really know about the paint scuffing from the package, I just got my Evo and luckily it was fine. The best part about this packaging is that you can display it standing up but since it's partially covered but the cardboard art, doesn't look as nice as the plastic blister.

    21:15 Maybe the designers didn't know that it was electric, or that one is a hybrid
    or the more logical conclusion: they are tow hooks

    Another brutally honest review. I'm sorry but no matter what I'm spending I expect perfection and something to work as it was designed to do. The ones that have damage should be put back into recycling 😂😂🤣. Or pass them on to the kiddos that dont care and are gonna smash them up anyway! Other vehicles in the Matchbox line such as the Real Working Rigs or mainline cars have very nice quality and moving parts that function without binding etc. Thanks for the review. I think i will pass on these. Good luck hunting🚛🚚🚕🚕🛻🚗🚙🚒

      The Working Rigs line is probably the best single line Matchbox has - the quality and fit/finish on those is great. I don’t think I’ve ever got a Working Rigs that wasn’t 9/10 or 10/10 condition straight out of the box!

    I have bought a few of these, and i can say that they are not bad! The foam is surprisingly good on keeping the cars in. Only problem that it can leave stuff on the car, like the roof. Another concern is that they might get damaged or vandalized. I havent come across a damaged one yet though, which is a good sign.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  Před 4 měsíci +1

      They are good at keeping the cars in place that’s for sure! Some of them are too tight and the packaging rubs the paint off, which is a big downside. The cars are still great though! I think an easy fix would be to put just a small rectangle of clear plastic over the open part of the packaging to protect the car, that way they are still minimizing plastic use but still protecting the car from external damage at least.

    Pad Printed Tampo > Printer Type Tampo, that's for sure. Also while the packaging is more convenient for storage than the previous "bubble" package, the fact the paper-foam package rubs against the paint model would be a problem. It's also compostable, wich means you can't keep the model in the box forever and dust will also eventually settle in because there's no plastic cover / blister protecting it. Great for the enviroment i guess, not so great for collectors in my opinion. Thanks for the detailed unboxing.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  Před 5 měsíci

      Agree on all accounts! The packaging seems to fit the environmental part, but overall it’s not the best doing anything else. The inner paper foam part rubbing against the cars will be the death of this line if all the cars start coming damaged, at least collectors wise.

    Cool looking cars but the packaging is not good. I understand why toy companies like Mattel and Hasbro are trying to do plastic free packaging, but so many times they failing in the execution of it. For diecast cars in particular, Mattel should just stick with the tried and true plastic bubble.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The idea is definitely there, but the execution of the open “window” will probably need addressed bc I have a feeling it’s going to damage a lot of cars in the process. Hasbro plastic-free largely works bc their stuff is mostly plastic and not painted - Spin Master has been releasing their larger monster trucks without plastic bubbles around them and it’s been about 50/50 on damage there too.

  • @dinoltm

      It’s a bit of a bummer. I’ll give them a slight pass on the packaging for now since it’s just starting to be used and they haven’t had a chance to update it yet, but those tampos are bad. They need to address those sooner than later!

    The quality on these has been hit miss too. I actually recently returned a Mazda RX seven because the leverees didn’t even line up correctly, which made the bumper trim look horrible so I managed to return it with putting it back in the package carefully and going back with my receipt. So I go to get a replacement and right there staring me in the face this same thing only this time not hidden behind the cardboard packaging. I feel like this is an attempt to camouflage damaged merchandise and still get people to buy it unknowingly? I say this because I ran into the same problem with the moving part collectors edition Celica. Evidently they have a Tennessee of the front bumper being damaged in the process of having the chassis riveted to the body since it is constructed out of plastic. so I’m now basically stuck with the car that doesn’t look that bad other than the bumper being cracked and thank God that it’s black plastic so I can just basically pull it into my little garage with the hood up with the front end facing towards the back wall, so it is what it is. It just sucks that that was a five dollar car that they almost seem to Design the clamshell to camouflage it from being seen by the naked eye. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  Před 3 měsíci +1

      This new packaging is definitely starting to show its flaws already. The hidden part of the car is a big issue bc it can and does hide lot of paint or other issues the car can have. I know if I find multiples of the same cars on pegs, I look through them and pick the best car, especially if I plan to open. With this new packaging it’s hard to do that. Also the red inner insert has been an issue for me too in terms of rubbing paint off and stuff 😢

    I personally hate the whole "open window" packaging, as someone who also collects transformers, the amount of times i have seen figures having their heads popped off, especially back then when the notorious infuriating trend of "head pop challenge" that went viral and many transformers had missing heads is infuriating, and its not like these 1:64 cars are harder to pocket, infact its easier.
