Uh hello? The weapons could have helped her if she knew how to use them and could tell a blank bullet from a REAL one. In fact if she knew ANYTHING about the weapons at all, she would have been a step ahead of them, none of them seemed to be "experts" at there weapons. They were all amateurs. This was one of those movies that ended up being way better than expected
i watched it in movies. it was really good. my fave parts were that creepy song that played as they prepare to hunt her down. also, when she punched the boy in the barn knocking him out someone yelled out "child abuse" and had the whole theater cracking up.
Yep I thought this was going to be stupid but it was actually one of the best movies I saw in a really long time that didn't seem like it was biting off of other horror flicks.
Yeah, it's like u try to think one step ahead and conclude that the director will make a twist and reveal the curse isn't real and the family's just crazy, but the director's actually two steps ahead and made the curse real. So by trying to defeat the director's twist, u actually opened yourself to it. Plus the family exploding was pretty satisfying and funny.
I was a little disappointed. I expected her to be a mixture of John McClane and Kevin McCallister. Instead all she has is grit.

The husband was selfish af for marrying her knowing what his family does. And even if he didn't 100% believe it, he believed it enough to want and try to take her away from that situation before the "games" even began. It's all his fault tbh.

The Deal, requires anyone marrying into the family pick a card and play a game, given the supernatural "Le Bail" it's safe to assume that somehow the family would be informed that someone had indeed married into the family. So it might not be possible to fully escape the whole affair. In the end she drew the one card that was unfortunate that is all.
This is my theory if anyone knows otherwise let me know.

I like this story, it kinda makes sense. They made a deal with the devil, and there were enough cards that would have saved them. Once in a while comes someone with the potential to reset the family order, and they get tested. If Grace accepts this new fortune, she is not free, but bound to the same rules, building up a generation of her own only to be contested the same way some day.
No she's not bound to a new deal.
She inherited the money because Le Bail *chose* to kill the entire family. She entered no deal with him. He didn't give her the money, the law did. Had Le Bail chose to spare Alex, she wouldn't get a dime. At no point did she agree to anything. He literally has no basis to a claim on her.
If Bill kills Betty and because of this, Belinda inherits money, Belinda isn't automatically an accessory after the fact. Even if Bill shot Betty *because* he wanted Belinda to get rich, as long as Belinda was never a willing participant or conspirator, she is not legally responsible for anything. And that's how these stories about making deals with the devil are; the devil may trick you but he doesn't actually cheat.

Since Grace was given immunity and Alex was her husband, he was considered her family and not the family of the Le Domas therefore if Grace didn't want to divorce him, he would be safe from Mr Le Bail which is why he was desperately seeking forgiveness from Grace. You otherwise theorize that since they were married they were considered as "one", and he would have lived. (If you would then ask why Helena lived before if they were considered "one", it could be because the married person is considered to be of both families, so they will naturally end up in the winner's circle if nothing goes wrong.)
@@oath491 I think that's too much wishful thinking. It would make sense if Mr. Lebail was a benevolent and fair creature, but he's not. He's a devil who screws people over for his amusement. There's a saying in Russian that the devil promises golden mountains, but always pays with broken shards instead.
As for your take on the ritual, I'm inclined to disagree, again, because I do not think of Mr. Lebail as a benevolent creature. Why would he care for anyone's happiness? Why would he care about anyone's feelings for it to make a difference?
Therefore I don't think there necessarily was a possibility of happy resolution for the lovers. There might've been, but just as well might have not. The responsibility to provision an exit clause falls on the party that would be interested in it, and since the founder of the family who first signed the contract with Mr. Lebail had in sight ways to enrich himself and his family, I don't think he would care to include a clause that would not only allow but also encourage his family members and descendants to break off from the main family thus dooming it.
So, in summary, from what we've seen, we can accept as straight facts the following:
1. The ritual is for introduction of new members to the family.
2. The family faces off the contestant in a game of hide and seek (sometimes).
3. The family must dispose of the contestant before morning, thus paying their dues to Mr. Lebail for the riches and good luck he provides. Otherwise Mr. Lebail harvests the entire family.
4. Alex was already a member of the family and therefore was bound by the contract.
5. The family must have known the particulars of the contract better than we do. The following is a supposition, but since nobody ever mentioned a possibility of emancipaction, I don't think there was such a possibility.

Theories I had when I finished watching was
1. What if that Karen didn't try to kill grace after the game was over? They did lose fair and square so the option of not killing her after the game was the game winning action but at the expense of their reputation being ruined to the bottom. Like a hidden rule where you lost, accept that you lost kind of thing.
2. The ones being spared are those who Grace deems worthy of being spared like how in order of hate, the one she hates the most gets killed first and the last was her husband until she threw the ring and invalidates his worthiness in the eyes of grace.
3. The game was originally just a nice little game but descended to madness due to the assumption of the family members about how, what or who Mr Le Bail is.
4. The rules are rules and you will die no matter what happens if you lose because a sacrifice is a sacrifice.
5. You must always provide Entertainment for Mr Le Bail on every game. And those who die after the game will depend on him.
Mr Le Bail: Oh you lost but you still want to continue to kill the winner? Explosion. Oh does the winner deem you worthy to be spared? No? Explosion.
The fire won't spread that fast but the family is already gone anyway so burn the entire house. No explosion.

I didn’t want to watch the movie at first but gave it a shot and had a lot of fun watching, way better than I expected, a bit of horrory feel with some subtle comedy and dark humor
The best part of the movie is we kind of think the curse is all nonsense, not actually believing it, but too convinced not to.
So the ending was pretty shocking, since a few seconds before the curse was proved real, they made us think how stupid these people were for believing such a thing. 😁
I think the curse is only real after Helene broke the rules of the game. They were safe even though it was dawn for more than 10 minutes. I think it was when Helene tried to attack Grace after the game ended that the punishment started and unfortunately it meant loss to the side Helene was on which was the rest of the family.

I'm guessing once you're in or marry in you can't get out. So I'm guessing it's in the eyes of Le Bail, not blood or name specifically.
Curses are blood borne (i.e. Strongholds, diseases, etc) , covenants are with people/names. This family has a covenant with leBail (an agreement) that in order to have or maintain the wealth they've been given they'll perform rituals to keep up their end of the agreement. That's why they do this to spouses because through marriage they are now in agreement to be family and therefore adhere to the family "rules" and traditions.
I kind of semi-assume Alex was the last one alive because his bride was the winner, so she might have had a chance to spare him. Hence when she threw the ring he blew.

Samara Weaving was sooo good in this movie, this and "Babysitter" movies made me like her as horror actress, she's really good at being terrified and girl can scream like crazy. Also her dry-wits delivery lines were funny as hell, she has some really funny lines
eaction in this movie. Her "sheaat" when seeing the old man at the end was priceless. She (Grace) just did not give a fuck anymore.
