Well…no matter where you go on earth, no matter how destitute or desperate, there are people there who sing, dance, tell stories, and fall in love. People don’t have time or energy for luxuries during war and famine. People fall in love and write songs in time of war and famine. Art, creation, and love are intrinsic human qualities. We don’t live without them. We just exist. Also, when everyone is given the opportunity to learn and create, you optimize all of human potential. Because there is no saying where the greatest scientist live. They might be at a slum somewhere and they might have died never learned how to read and write. And people discover and create by accident and by playing and by indulging their curiosity. There is no logic to human ingenuity. You can give people tools and you can give people access to all the knowledgeable equally and optimize human potential that way and then wait for the right accidents. Like human beings, we are also a product of accidents and chaos. Random mutations and random discoveries. It’s kind of beautiful.

When I was in Junior High, we had an English project very similar to this. If I remember correctly, there were 16 characters in the scenario, but there was only room for 10 of them in the bunker. We were given descriptions of each of the characters (profession, personality, skills, age, health, etc.) and had to choose which 10 would get to survive in the bunker. We spent several days on the project and had to defend each of our choices - the reasons why we chose each person who lived and each person who died. I can't remember all the details, but I do remember that one of the characters was a despicable, middle-aged woman who was not only a terrible person, but who had no skills to help the group survive. However, she did have one thing going for her...she owned the bunker!
Was she the first one to be taken out?
I know everyone wants to ask this question... Did the group get the information about the bunker from her and kick her out?
@@boxingelfis1499 - I remember we each had to do the assignment ourselves at home, and then decide later as a group in class. I let her stay because she owned the bunker, but the group kicked her out right away!

Depends on the description of the other characters but I probably would’ve kicked her out. Peoples personalities and who they are affect all aspects of life (the reason why people love or hate their jobs is because of the way their coworkers or customers/patrons interact with them) and if I had to live in a bunker for presumably a year/years with someone who made it miserable (set aside all the bunkers amenities), I’d go out of my way to get rid of said person

Seemed so tense for no reason and knowing they’re just in a classroom perfectly safe with no reason to care about what happened about the bunker reality
I thought about why this movie fell short and you said it perfectly. There were no stakes, no danger and no consequence if they busted the thought experiments. The closest potential consequence they had was a failing grade, which is vague and has no bearing on what the characters will do after the movie's events end. And what the hell was the purpose of having the movie take place in Jakarta? This movie could've happened literally anywhere

The moral of the story is that if you want good grades you better sleep with your professors.
If the stakes were higher for the characters it would've been better. Nothing happens if they die so they just choose the people that won't help survive to have fun. If there were stakes other than a bad grade then the people that could help survive would be chosen instead of the people that have no real value other than entertainment.
Honestly, if it wasn't tainted by the professor letting his personal feelings run rampant (Seriously, what does he have against poets?!) I think that would have been a fascinating thought exercise.
9:28: Haha, its like D&D!
Or Yugioh Season 1!!
People just make stuff up that sounds like it makes sense,
right? Did i get this right?
It doesn't really make sense as a thought exercise either though. Something like this would inevitably have people discussing things outside of the "group" and everyone having imperfect information. You literally can't do something secretively and plan etc when you literally have to say it out loud so everyone hears. People never make decisions alone, and a classroom "thought exercise" would never be able to replicate the actual starting scenario correctly. This plot is also filled with "my narration says this happens because it fits what I want to have happened" instead of actual logical cause and effect. Professor locked out? Suddenly he has the only exit code to hold the group hostage even though that was never mentioned until literally that moment. Next sim attempt they literally try to metagame and claim that they know the code due to the previous failure(?????) and then all of a sudden this time there wasn't any bombs and the professor has been living nearby ready to shoot them on exit. This movie's writing is straight out of a smoke filled liberal arts college dorm that somehow just had to find a way to shoehorn a creepy sexual jealous overtone for some reason.
A poet killed my parents once… Now I will purge all poets from the future…
@@ShaggyRogers1 the idea of this exercise is to figure out your own values and priorities. As you go through the list of participants you are going to surround yourself with, you have to weigh each of them against another, and decide which traits are importance to you and why. The experiment doesn't have any other purpose or value, and it's not supposed to be a simulation of group dynamics or survival in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
That's why I think the movie fell flat, its conclusion was dictated by nothing but the students being tired and pissed off at the professor. It' was not mentioned in the recap, but in the movie that star-girl made a show of changing their sitting arrangements, so that all the students ended up on one side, and the professor on the other. It wasn't we, the survivors, against them, the rejects, anymore. It was a big "f you" to the old dude. The whole movie was nothing but a long and boring break up scene between the girl and the old dude, with jealousy fits thrown in here and there.
This movie lost my interest on when the teacher said, I will lower your boyfriend grade.

Umm, if you think teachers haven't acted this way or similar, then you don't pay much attention to news related to schools do ya? A teacher here in Nevada was recently fired for threatening to lower a students grade if he didn't show her his you know what (teacher was dumb enough to think that the zoom sessions weren't recorded), and sadly that wasn't an isolated incident. There were reports of this going on in Chicago, Detroit, also in Austin, LA, mainly cities or states where the teachers union is *strong* Hell the teacher here was on PAID LEAVE from October of 2020 up until July 2021, when the parents finally got the teacher fired (though we suspect she wasn't)

This movie can be seen as a philosophical debate to the question "what is necessary for survival?", or as a rant by a Professor jealous that the student he slept with refuses to break up with her boyfriend and is trying to engrain the idea that he has more value than him.
I think the movie is a combination of both of those concepts. The teacher believes because he has a job and financial stability (i.e. the exit code) he should have more value then a kid who lacks intelligence and financial stability (i.e. a florist). However, during the third thought experiment, she proves that the kids who lacked value would live happily together, and at the end of the day, that is all that really matters. The teacher cant accept this, because he believes value is more important then happiness (in order to preserve the human race). During the final scene, the teacher kills himself, because he cant accept that "value" is ultimately meaningless in comparison to "happiness".
Well glad I saved myself some time by watching this instead of the movie
this is not a thought experiment, but a hypothetical situation. a thought experiment is something like schrödinger’s cat or the ship of theseus. a thought experiment has two distinctly different solutions to the same situation. the answer to this hypothetical is clear, you select those with the skills and profession that give the most benefit of survival, as the goal of this hypothetical situation is purely survival. the professor said it himself that they don’t have enough experience to find food, build shelter, irrigate water. instead these kids are happy dying of starvation while listening to music and looking at art.
"soldier with perfect memory remembers the code from last ineration" thought experiment about reincarnation then. and if it was humans last chance for survival would it be so bad for the homosexual to reproduce?
Right? The line: "Soldier with perfect memory remembers the code from last iteration." is immediately followed by "James who is no longer a homosexual in this exercise." like wtf
If the previous simulations had unique conditions, even the bunker location changes then why does the exit code not change? And why do the characters retain memory and experience from previous Sims?
Why did they accept a person just because they're gay?
Why did anyone fund this movie?
So many questions.

*IF YOU'RE GOING TO STUDY ABROAD, MAKE SURE THE SCHOOL YOU APPLY TO IS ACTUALLY ACCREDITED*
Accreditation status can be verified though the US Dept of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This will ensure that you are taught legitimate coursework by a valid licensed university professor and earn credits that will be accepted by other respected academic institutions and can be applied towards earning a degree that future employers will recognize.
Failing to do so might land you in the dire straights depicted in this film: earning worthless fake diploma mill credits by forcing yourself to humor the incoherent ramblings of a (presumably) recovering alcoholic expatriate at the Jakarta campus of Trump University while enduring nightly sessions of getting you booty blown out by this same deadbeat dad who fled his job as an Uber driver in the United States in order to avoid paying child support.

Or maybe they are just that bad at class.. Including the best student there
yea but unrealistic
The foundation of human is collaboration , so if A is lacking Hunting skills but know about Water filtration technique + B is lacking water but have great Hunting skills
Both of them can't make out alive if not collaborate with each others that is the fundamental of why Human is on top of the world right now
Emotion and "creative" are useful and needed but not without a basic foundation like above, you can't be happy if you don't have food to eat
The movie assume the theory where the bunker has everything ,and it makes us to think they live "happily" and "fullest" but in reality they didn't
live to fullest doesn't mean just live to enjoy, live is not enjoyable if you don't try your hardest
But that last year was all they had. In this setup, you’re just straight up not going to make it any longer than you have the bunker.
We had to do this exercise in class 🤣 it was fun
Fun fact about the beginning: on Polish universities there's 2--way 15 minutes rule. You can join class late if it's less than 15 minutes (some exams are exceptions) no matter if you've informed about it b4. Also students are obligated to wait for professor for 15 minutes after beginning (unless they were informed lesson is canceled). After 15 minutes and no sign from professor everybody can just make list of present students (usually left in Dean's office or simply lying near class) and go home.
It's practiced to allow longer period if somebody inform he's late but generally you can't make it shorter unless you have valid reason for student not being able to join in middle
The Academic 15' is an international practice
I wished my teachers did this, this shit sounds fun af
Expectation: *escape mundane life to watch fantastic things in a movie*
Actual movie: *mundane people talk about fantastic things in their imagination*
I remember this movie and was fascinated by it.
Glad to see this movie on your channel. I watched it many years ago, and I like it a lot. I'm glad I went through it again!
That's just like a question we had for our psychology test where of course all the gays, old people and people with no skills were left outside to die by me. The twist was you needed to let in a murderer because he had the key whereas my response was to murder him and take it. I take survival very seriously.
The last part is James leaves her! He has an affair with the military girl! THE END
My man zimmit tried to Stop them from doing suicide by threatening to shoot them😭 yeah that's some real philosophical Shit right there
I've seen some strange movie plots, but this one is the strangest I've seen in quite a while.
Threatens to lower boyfriends grade... Go to Dean of School and he's fired.
He immedialy goes and gets a gun and shoots someone for his spot. Someone in his class would have realized this is a creepy power move and gone for another teacher/Dean. This TTeacher has no job going forward.
The movie feels like it could have been an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philedalphia.
@@masonthunkwell9786 Teacher should have gone the role of being the bases AI for the exercise. So he has a reason to keep forcing things to go ccording to program.
Man i watched the movie with my class. But still i dont understand the ending
My man poet didn't have enough💀
Glad i saw this recap instead of the while movie
I want to make this in real life when of if I become a teacher. Thank you for sharing the movies that nobody knows about but are amazing
People who took this movie seriously are gonna be the downfall of humanity
