- Video demonstrates how the Epley maneuver is performed to treat POSTERIOR canal BPPV affecting the right ear (1:13) as well as left ear (3:17). Both back and side views shown. Dix-Hallpike maneuver (0:19) to diagnose as well as figure out which side ear is the culprit is also shown (so you know which way to turn first). Basically, the side which triggers the worse symptoms is the culprit side.
Animation showing what is going on within the inner ear is also shown.

Instantly worked! My doctor friend recommended trying this technique and this video was brilliant at demonstrating how to self diagnose the condition and which ear, and then how to fix the problem! When I first laid back a white line kept jumping as my eyes struggled to fix on it, but immediately after 1 time of this movement, I could look straight! I no longer get dizzy looking up or lying back. For me this started about 40 days after a COVID reinfection and I read a study saying vertigo 43 days post COVID is surprisingly common. Hope you can continue to do great work in helping others.
This just resolved my vertigo, thank you so much!
I am SO grateful for this video! I was diagnosed with BPPV several years ago, and sent to a physical therapist to do the Epley Maneuver (though it felt much more complex then... maybe they did the Dix-Hallpike first). I just did this procedure, intending to start with Dix-Hallpike to verify which ear it was, but as soon as I laid my head back while looking right, there was NO doubt it was my right ear. I held that position for several seconds after my eye twitching stopped, and moved to 2nd position... where I felt nothing. All downhill, right? Well, I rolled onto my left side, and the whole world churned! I'm used to feeling like the room is spinning, but this was the most intense vertigo I have ever felt! When I sat up I was still a tad nauseated, but right now I feel great! I will probably try the maneuver one more time tonight to make sure it's clear, but I am so grateful that I can do this at home now and not have to wait weeks to get an appointment. THANK YOU!
did you use a mirror or your phone video to determine if your eyes twitched?
I KNOW the feeling! I can’t bear to watch my eyes twitch, since the spinning sensation makes it impossible for me to open my eyes. I had two episodes, 3:49 16 years apart…very violent. The Dr. in the ER did this. Now, I have subtle cues that warn me that an episode is coming (still not often). This gives me time to do the maneuver. I’m so grateful that I’m in the group that can resolve it at home, and easily! Thank God! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I will try the Epley maneuver just now. Thanks.
had it in my left ear, instantly solved it, thank you very much.
THANKYOU for this video, what a scary sensation vertigo is, I did the maneuver and I feel better!
I just did this and I think it worked! When I turned my head to the right, the room was spinning. I tried it twice again about an hour later and It is no longer. We will see tomorrow. Thanks for this video!
how is it now?
Can you please give an update ?
bro u dead??
@@sortalgaming9522 the maneuver killed him 😥
Did it make you sick when you turn your head because it makes me dizzier and I felt like I was going to be sick, but it was very dizzy on my right side
Fantastic!
After struggling for over four weeks with vertigo taking prescibed medicine with no result, my doctor gave me some information about this maneuver, but it was difficult to understand. Asking for a PT refferral to help took days to get a response. Resigned that this may be what my existence had become I searched YT for a demonstration.
This video concisely explained and demonstrated how to do this. It cured my vertigo. Thank you!
How's is it now is it cured or still there
@@wildpro585 it is cured. Not occurring any longer. I feel normal again. Such as that is...
I share this with anyone who will listen. If you have this condition this can address it.
Thank you, it worked for me
Looks like it helped.. at least for the time being. Time will tell. Thanks for uploading the video.
Thank you so much it really works 🙏🏻
lo voy a intentar muchas gracias.
Спасибо!!! ❤
Did this two times 30 minutes a ago and nlw I feel alot better. As if I'm back to normal again!!
Am still trying to find out how to do it right cos i have done it and i still feel shaky while walking… any idea how to figure out the right way to start?
@@johnkennedy-db6dm are you 100% sure you have vertigo and not something else?
@@luv2stack good question, im having lightheaded and it comes and stop then comes again, i even having it now as i reply, and the doctor said its eply thats why i started doing research
@@johnkennedy-db6dm you probably have something else. Vertigo will cause insane dizzyness when this exercise is performed. When head is tilted to the side.
@@luv2stackI am 3 weeks now, little bit ok,,doctor says bbpv😢,,i sleep fast in bad position,,that's reason😢,,but little unbalance now,,
Thank you very much
Incredible. Tried this technique a few minutes ago and can't trigger another episode of vertigo.
I just did this and think it worked. The worst vertigo is on my right side.
Fyi: The narrator is saying hold the position until the induced vertigo *resolves*-not results. I was holding the position until the vertigo started.. You have to hold the position until it STOPS.
100% Robb, these videos are amazing...but shouldn't talk about seconds at all... just should read, turn when you no longer feel Nystagmus\vertigo. And if you have a partner turning you. Have them turn you when your eyes stop twitching (Nystagmus) also for everyone out there that are hurting real bad trying this maneuver... if you take over the counter Meclizine it makes the maneuver much more bearable! The power of modern medicine is ON FULL DISPLAY HERE. As if you have bad vertigo and try the maneuver you will feel horrible during and after... but not with Meclizine.
i tried to determine which ear it was and i tried dix-hallpike method but my eyes werent twitching in any of the scenarios. So how else would i know?
If you don't feel vertigo when you lay your head back and look 45 degrees to the left or the right, you may not actually have BPPV or it may be extremely mild. Both times I've had it and done this maneuver, as soon as I laid my head back 30 degrees while tilted to the right 45 degrees, it was obvious I had it. My eyes twitched pretty violently and I could feel the vertigo.
@@user-jl5uu7hx2s did you use a mirror or your phone video to determine if your eyes twitched?
I know that I definitely have BPPV on my left side but this exercise has only made me experience vertigo and unfortunately I'm still not better.
This exercise is only for the posterior canal.
You have to do the dix-hallpike maneuver first to determine which canal the crystal is in.
While doing the hall pike maneuver if you don’t notice nystagmus then you don’t have bppv.
I still don't see how you determine which side is affected. I can't see my eyes flicker back and forwards, I'm so dizzy I can't even open my eyes.
If youre still having trouble, what i did was I went to a neurologist and they did a test on a machine and determined which ear needed it
Hello! What if I did it for both ears over 30minute period? I have land sickness
I have a problem finding out which side I have symptoms of BPPV. More than that this video doesn't show clearly: It said we should do the opposite side of BPPV but on the video, they show the side that had BPPV. Can you explain in more detail for us? Thank you very much.
Basically, the side which triggers the worse symptoms is the culprit side... and the side towards which the maneuver should be performed. If turning head to right triggers the worse symptoms, then you perform a right epley.
@@fauquierent I have left side ear which side I have to start?
@@kanish077 left side. Also try visiting an ent doc rather than doing it by yourself
They know how to do effectively
After see the vdo I understand that first time hv to do the affected side.
I think this worked! I repeated it and I didn’t get the vertigo!
What if both ears have BPPV?
do that for both ears. it works. i've done it. but remember you'll experience the most severe vertigo on both sides. just do one ear at the time. you'll succeed. good luck. get someone to support you there because its hard by your self. anyway hope you get better soon❤
Its making me very nauseous :( Ive done it twice now, I hope it works. Starting on the side that makes me most dizzy
Thanks for this nice information, but how many time this, exercise to be done in one sitting, plz reply
If works, it needs to be done only once.
@@fauquierent thanks for reply My dr had Dix Hallpix & Epley maneuver, & I was diagnosed with left ear so he gave me Medicine as well as I was asked to do BRANDT DROFF EXERCISE, & recovered a lot, in 3 months but still I feel little spinning by head movement only in any position ,sitting, standing, walking, moving head up down right left , otherwise no problem all tests & health profile reports related to this case are ok & get tests every 3 months, my left ear is effected & no medicine works like vertin, stugeron etc I will try Epley maneuver, thanks
@@RajKumar-ci7dghow is it now is it cured
@@wildpro585 ji My left ear was diagnosed with BPPV & I did Brandt's Droff exercise ( doctor advice) & was recovered a lot, but still little spinning is felt only on head movement, all tests related to vertigo are ok, & none of the medicine like vertin stugeron etc is effective now, I did Epley maneuver too after seeing this vdo, no effect as no spinning is felt during this exercise, I am sr. Citizen ,may be age factor , my doctor asked me to walk daily at least 30-40 min daily twice a day, that I'm doing , ther are so many reasons for vertigo, some are cured with medicine but if it is due to inner ear canalithis problem, no medicine is effective, only exercise can help( EPLEY OR BRANDT'S MANEUVER), so plz get proper diagnose from ENT SPL, & follow his advice, don't take any allopathic medicine or do exercise yourself
My problem is if I turn right side, the bed start to spin. I immediate turn face up then stop spinning. My question how will I resolve the problem? No way I can turn right side to resolve virtigo. In that case what can I do?
You are SUPPOSED to have spinning symptoms when you turn. You have to MAINTAIN position in spite of the symptoms until the spinning passes, usually after about 30-60 seconds. THEN, move on to the next position (where same thing might happen).
@@fauquierent i did this, but for me it made me sweat a lot when I got up and have intense vertigo when I got off the bed. Still not better
Instinctively you'll want to sit up to stop the spinning, but you have to stick with it until it stops.
Can this happen without the eyes moving?? Because I have every symptoms without eyes moving
Good question. Wish someone would/ could answer
Where does the Chrystal go?
My neurologist said it gets reabsorbed by an organ in the ear
Back in the utricle where it dislodged from in the first place
How do i know which side do i have the crystal in my ears?? Also what if i have opposite side the crystal than in the video instruction showing
This works! I did this gif a few weeks and the vertigo went away ( I had it for a few years).
Hello
How many times i should repeat?
80% of the time, it should work after you do this only once correctly.
I hate doing this myself. I always go to ent to get it done. I’m a baby 😂.
