Lumix FZ1000 vs FZ2500

  • We've been getting a lot of questions about the Lumix FZ2500 and how it compares to the FZ2500 so we made this video to compare the 2 cameras
They both have a 1" sensor that holds up well for prints up to 30", a non-interchangeable lens and a leaf-shutter for flash sync at up to 1/4000th sec without using HSS. This has allowed photographers to use much lower power settings on their strobes and shoot with a larger aperature.
The improvements include touch screen and better video capabilities including the addition of a headphone jack. You can also purchase v-log activation code for the FZ2500.
One thing I forgot to mention in the video is the focal length of the lens. On the FZ1000 the 35mm equivalent is 24-400mm, while on the FZ2500 it's 24-480mm. Thanks JoAnne for pointing that out!

This is precisely the kind of review video I want to see - no shenanigans, no silly jokes, just straight-up, smart, concise opinion. You've helped me a lot here! I need a new camera (my last one was stolen in a burglary) and I haven't been able to put any new educational videos together for my students in a while. Though I'd love to go for the up-market FZ2500, I think my budget constraints will keep me looking at the older version...

Also, there is the option to output clean video via HDMI in 4k for 10 bit 4:2:2 4k video. That's a HUGE addition at this price point.

Here’s where Panasonic has added a little extra value. The FZ2000 now features a 20x optical zoom, which gives you an equivalent of 24-480mm in 35mm terms. The maximum aperture range goes from f/2.8 up to f/4.5 at the furthest reach of the optic. By contrast, the FZ1000 has a 16x optical zoom, or 25-400mm f/2.8 - 4 in 35mm terms - so the FZ2000 has gone a touch wider too.
    and... fully articulated viewfinder?
and ibis was on fz 1000 .

What is the manual focus like during a zip zoom on the FZ2500? If you auto focus on a far distant subject at maximum zoom, then switch to manual focus mode and fast zoom out to wide and back in again at close up, does the lens maintain focus throughout the range and hold it at the wide angle end? Almost performing like a par focal lens ( although I think the lens itself is not actually a par focal lens?) Thanks

I really enjoyed your comparison between the two cameras. I wanted to ask, can I get away with using the FZ2500 for Weddings and Event photography? With videos, it's obviously not going to be a problem. With Portrait photography I would use studio lighting. My concern with this camera is will it be good enough to use in lower light conditions like for stills at a wedding or any inside event like corporate and party events that would not allow for extra lighting, and I'm assuming that with the 4K on the FZ2500, lighting won't be a problem doing videos. Though I do pretty good for a non-pro with the Nikon D7100 and now the D7200, I'd like to add video as an option to the business, and the FZ2500 would be a great addition to my tools of the trade. I appreciate any input you can give me; at your convenience, of course, thanks!

You could give a comparison of pictures and videos from both cameras, no mention about 4k not having image stabilization is it same in 2500? I've heard that the FZ1000 gives better image quality because the 2500 has a bigger zoom but not many show a good comparison. My FZ1000 was used daily for over 500 days the flip screen eventually stopped working and my audio in is now sensitive I still love it next time ill be more careful a few times I almost dropped my FZ1000 and caught it with the flip screen, kinda saved the camera at the same time but broke the LCD, I'm looking to get an external monitor for my FZ1000, no money for a new one to finish my documentaries.

The external mic does work in 4K on theFZ1000. Since video is important, I would go with the FZ2500. You can record video at a higher bit-rate, and you have the headphone jack out so you can monitor your audio with the FZ2500.

Luis, I've used the FZ1000 in quite a few situations (including events such as weddings) and at the wide end of the zoom range, the FZ1000 (and FZ2500) has an f/2.8 maximum aperture and does fairly well in low light (though it requires pushing the ISO a bit higher than you may prefer, resulting in lower quality images). When you zoom in, however, the FZ1000 moves to a max aperture of f/4 (the FZ2500 to f/4.5) which hasn't worked too well for me when shooting in low light.
My solution is to carry a Panasonic GX85 body ($300 used) with a low light prime lens (such as the Pansonic 20 1.7, 24 1.7 or 42 1.7) and that works out very well. I shoot with both cameras rolling at the same time (the FZ1000 for the wide shot and the GX85 for the medium/tight shot) holding it on a 2-camera bracket. See videos about putting 2 cameras on one bracket here:

We shot a wedding ceremony with the FZ1000 in 4K and I believe it was about 40 minutes. We did have the monitor off and no zooming while shooting. My gues is the FZ2500 is the same. Shooting 4K allows you to "zoom in" in post. If you need longer continuous recording time, you can use the AC adaptor or Tether Tools has the Case Relay that lets you use a USB power source to power you camera.

I despise touch screen cameras. I have one and have rarely used it, and I just got an FZ1000 (like new) for $440, and got it for the image quality. Also, not everyone can drop an extra $500+ for a better camera, and you should take that into consideration when doing reviews. There's a lot the older camera had going for it and your reviews come across as trying to sell the newer cameras, which is what the magazines do. Some people buy used cameras because it's what their budgets would allow. I could never afford buying the FZ1000 from Amazon at the new price of $597, much less the newer camera.

For a camera that advanced at that price range makes just terrible viedo, stills are oke, but when there is movement, stabilisation function... jelly mode, just terrible, Cheap nikon L series I like more
