- Geared Drives FWF engine package for P-51 at idle and run up very conservatively since we were testing ignition only and there was no prop installed. Note how smoothly the engine transitions from low RPM to higher RPM. Nice rumbling sound through the short custom exhaust, volume increased via the collector with baffling within to provide back pressure and guard against shock cooling the valves.

Awesome, looks as good as it sounds. Nice build!
Sounds great with the headers.
Love the 4 into 6 exhaust manifolds...
No mufflers....That has got to be LOUD!!! Awesome. Pretty engine!!
Awesom. Ive always been curious to see an aircraft engine running without the prop.
It's not an aircraft engine but it did go in a plane. It's a Chevy LS V8
This engine have 8 cilinder, The P51 have 12
They had super engines way back then- amazing.
NOT RR ENG.
This is a modern engine. It's a Chevy LS V8, same engine in Camaros and Corvettes
I like the sound it hums like a heavy truck engine :D
Eccezionale veramente!!! 👍
Ohhhh, soooo sweeeeet!
Where could I buy exhaust manifolds like that?
Ya know I was skeptical about the whole “ people put Ls engines in everything “ I stand corrected
where did you get the reduction gear set up for the prop? i'm looking to build a replica p-51 with a ls1 and i'm doing research on how to make this happen. thanks :)
@2:25 It shows the O2 sensor mounted off to the side kinda out of the main wash of the exh. port , i wonder how accurate that would be ? And i only see one O2 sensor being used . Imo there should be 2 used , so that both banks can be monitored for proper A/F ratios ...
So that's a Chevy LS-1 engine...? Pretty cool. Sounds great... like my bosses Z06 Corvette. What kind of mods are done to the engine and what kind of horsepower do you get out of it. Stupid question but this is for the small Mustangs, correct (Thunder Mustangs...???)?
I want that in my car.
holy JESUS christ that's mad!!!!
This proves that the Chevy LS smallblock V8 is reliable for any applications.Marine,motorcycles.mid-engine euro designed supercars,Vettes,trucks.SUV.s and now expierimental aircrafts!
I wanna this engine to my motorcycle)))
this is NOT a p-51 engine
it will look great on my honda
it took me a second to realize this isn't an allison, but an LS series engine. Interesting.
So are you going to add a whistle to your P-51 so it will sound like original
I've been wanting to do this with twin Dodge Viper V-10s in my project. I talked with Bud several years ago and he said it is doable with his PSRU. Might have to look into it further, after what happened to Terry Kronks P-51. Hmmmm...Don
What's this engine rated at on HP?
is that a fram oil filter......
I like it a lot- but the 4 into 6 manifolds are just for show, - shock cooling the valves? lol
bruce chapman To make it look like original V12 on the mustang
A V8 rumble isn't fooling anyone into thinking they hear a V12. I think people sometimes get so wrapped up in a Hp number and think that anything making that amount of power will do...but that is not the case. You need power low stress. A small engine that can make power is very different from a big engine making the same amount. Still this is a beautiful engine however.
Wow.. Don't be too gentle with that throttle .. You may break something.. lol..
Seriously though, awesome swap idea! Gotta let us know how you like it!
🎵
What is the price ?
queria um desenho das peças interna desse motor1obrigado
very cool. Obviously not as cool as a merlin but they are getting harder and harder to find these days. I would think that these are easyer to get parts support and repairs for Pretty cool
how many cubic inches is that? thanks
That appears to be a GM LS1 engine
ooooh look, an LS1 engine running....big whoop - dee - f'ing - dooooo
LS POWER CHEERS 🍻 👍
I'd put a Ford Cayote V8 BOSS 302 into a P-51 Mustang and make that sound just as good as that LS-1 motor, cause personally, not a Chev guy, I'm a Ford guy.
"Sound as good" for two or three times the money and half the fucking power and one fifth the "reliability" and "durability". Those "Coyote" boat anchor "mod motors" are "ancient history" and Fords "answer" to the Cadillac Northstar V-8 GM "shitcanned" about the same time Ford started cranking out various "versions" of its "modular" shitpiles right and left.
PUT THAT IN MY PRIUS!!!!!!!!!!
It's going is a 1/2 or 3/4 Mustang, not an original full size plane.
that's nothing like Merlin 1620
The P-51 Mustang is a such an amazing piece of American and British engineering. Consisting of an innovative wing design and control system combined with a supercharged V-12 engine built by the British, the P-51 would be a dominant force in the skies over continental Europe in the waning days of WWII protecting the Allied bombers as they bombed the living daylights out of the German towns and cities. It would become the most feared aircraft of its time alongside its Spitfire and Messerschmitt counterparts.
Ide like to educate you to a few small things...but im not going to ,ile allow you to sound stupid every time you say that ;) priceless
The Packard engines where built under license. And I'm not British so you can sprout your BS elsewhere.
Quero por no meu Fusca
That engine look like it's based on an LS design.
The engine looks like it's for a 4/5 p 51
Звукк просто песня
Parece um Chevrolet Ls9
A modified Dodge Viper V-10 into an aero engine is the next logical progression.
While the Viper V-10 is an amazing engine, it actually has a low horsepower per pound ratio. Even modified. It is also heavy and would create CG issues in a plane this size.
The Falconer V12 is a much better option.
Only for racing-has only single ignition system.
The likelihood of the ignition system failing on a modern engine is next to nothing. Then again, it is a GM product.
It is not a Merlin
this + rat rod = OMG
Doesn’t sound half bad, actually. I can appreciate the fab work that went into those manifolds... but as an aero guy, the flow dynamics of them make me cringe. Sorry guys, but I’d be doing the hard work and math of engineering on splitting/splicing the pipes so you had some decent flow and scavenging. You’re putting so much work into this airplane as it is, shame to take a shortcut on the manifolds.
I'm wondering if the horizontal "log" interconnecting the six "zoomies" on each side ate there for stability, or if all short pipes are interconnected.?? Dunno.
If so, why??
fram filter.............
Storm7289 and Dry sump oil system, cause I've talked with an expert engine mechanic and he said that if U left the original oil pump in the engine and its in an airplane, and U go vertical up, vertical down, sideways, or even upside down, all the oil is gonna leak right out through the gaskets and seals, so it probably also has a dry sump oil system, which means the oil is going through lines input and output, and is pressurized, and the original Fram filters, Rnt my favorite kind of filter, I'd rather go with the Royal Purple oil and filters, and I'd also go with the K&N air filters cause those R great with high performance engines especially 4 aircraft.
Not a Merlin. I would call that a Jester engine, because it's fake and makes me laugh.
Why don't you tell everyone where a Merlin engine is that can be bought in good working order. We know who the real jester is.
You have a Merlin, man that is so cool!
