Truyeart LS1 Engine for his RV-10 Starts for the first time!
Another Geared Drives LS1 engine package for RV-10 roars to life for the very first time! The engine starts easily and runs at low RPM since it is not good for it to run without the load of a propeller on it. We run it long enough to test the systems, check for leaks, test the PSRU etc. At the very end of the video you can see the breather on the PSRU kick over the little bit of overage of oil as it seeks its natural level in the gearbox. This is normal for a first run up.

Bud Warren starts the Geared Drives the LS1 Chevrolet firewall forward engine package with Geared Drives PSRU prior to delivery to its owner, Roger Followell. I heard the engine start up so I grabbed my camera...this was the very first start and it did start first time. We are running it gently since there is no load on the engine.

Geared Drives FWF engine package for P-51 at idle and run up very conservatively since we were testing ignition only and there was no prop installed. Note how smoothly the engine transitions from low RPM to higher RPM. Nice rumbling sound through the short custom exhaust, volume increased via the collector with baffling within to provide back pressure and guard against shock cooling the valves.

LS1 firewall forward engine package with Geared Drives spur gear PSRU built for Frank's Bearhawk airframe. Test run after 5 minutes at idle produced 145 degrees, 15 minutes 150 degrees, 20 minutes 160 degrees. When brought up to 2000 RPM the engine cooled back down to 155 degrees! Machining Geared Drives PSRU Billet Alum Cases

Cases start as a 100# chunk of aircraft aluminum and as the computer controlled CNC machine begins to carve out the rear case of our PSRU (gearbox) for our high HP units. First the inside of the back case is machined, then flipped over, aligned, and the top of the rear case is completed. Drums of shavings are result as the front and back cases are completed for a total weight of 34#.

Note: battery was a little low...Bill Gipson of Conroe, TX runs his engine up, cycles the prop, and shuts it down for viewers. This was immediately after taxiing around the airport and filling up with fuel. This airplane runs cool, even on taxi. Note that the centrifugal clutch starts the prop just after the engine starts and also that the prop spins to a stop upon engine shutdown.
