Ananya is an awesome singer. Unfortunately, she chose a song that didn't display her range well. These judges want contestants to show technical wizadry, someone singing straight is not considered a singer by them. In this age if Kishoreda, whom the legendary S.D Burman had advised "Seedha gaao, dil se gaao, log sunenge. Jyaada murkiya lene ki jaroorat nahi", and he drove straight into audiences hearts with his straight but melodius and soulful singing, if he has been a contestant he would not have been selected. Sad state of affairs, but true. I am a singer myself and can tell you with conviction. Ananya is a power packed takent.
IKR. like its nice and beautiful to bring twists and turns in songs but straight singing as you said, have its own beauty. i too sing and personally i don't even like adding different notes in between unnecessarily which most of the singers nowadays do. i can easily sing with different notes as i have classical vocal training but doing it repeatedly just disturbs the joy and flow i get while singing straight.
