I get mocked in the body shop for using your techniques, but my boss can't argue with the results. Consistently surprised with the panels I've been able to save. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you for your comment James
You are witnessing the cutting edge of dent repair. Ken is likely in top 5 in the world for quality PDR techs... Remember, all pioneers are mocked throughout history... "The Earth is Round", "Earth is not the Center of the Universe" "Humans can't fly", etc. If you knew that hot glue, pry bars, heat gun, pull tower, pull tabs, and alcohol would work better than weld tabs, grinder, bondo, dry, sand, prime, dry, color match paint, dry, clear, dry, polish. I think it would be something for your colleagues to embrace, and not mock... Maybe boss man should send the team to some PDR classes! Ken offers them :-) Paint techs probably hate it... lol (We don't get anymore work)
@@Carbon_Fiber Shops make money to use materials. They get paid to replace parts. They don't want me to be able to straiten a fender when they are paid to get a new one.
@@Carbon_Fiber It's not entirely up to the shop. When insurance is involved. In some cases. Sure you could do that. However most of ny work is insurance jobs. And they dictate pretty much everything.
@@Carbon_Fiber ,
Because these techniques are so new, that most dont know about them.
When we see the PDR guys come to the shop, they generally cant fix anything bigger than a golfball. We wont even call them if the paint is broken at all, because we have to repaint anyway. In which case our methods arent that much different.
Also, no one knows that a piece of "Plastic" stuck to the side of a car with something as ridiculous as "Hot melt glue", of all things, has enough gripping strength to make a pull like this and hold. If that was well known, we would all be doing it.
In the example in this video, a conventional shop will weld a metal plate to each side of the bodyline, and make their pulls off of that.
We also have "wiggle wire" which was a huge advancement over when I was young, but its still welding some form of attaching point to the body so you have something to grab on to and pull off of.
Keep in mind, the WAY he does his pulls in the video, walks the dent out, and taps down the crowns is nearly identical to how a good metal worker does it anyway. That hasnt changed.
The differences are this:
1. Hes using glue tabs for his attachment points to make his pulls. The pulls themselves are identical, however.
2. He uses a "Hammer & Chisel" technique when taking the stress out of the crowns and doing his tap downs. I dont know why this is done this way. A polished bodyhammer should do the same thing without breaking the paint. Back in the day we also used polished "Chasing" hammers (only available from Mercedes Benz Germany, back then) and smaller jeweler's hammers for the fine work.
The tap downs could also easily be done with a nylon jewler's hammer (which may actually be my own personal trick because I have never seen anyone but me do it).
3. Once the metal was really close we would use a metal file to highlight the highs and lows to continue tuning in the final 10% of the repair. Today, the PDR lights accomplish the same thing, so this step is replaced with using the light and the 'shine' of the paint itself, as the final guide.
If I had to guess, Rick was an old school metal finisher, before getting into PDR.
PDR on its own, does not have this type of skill and technique in it. Its something that evolved separately from conventional bodywork...probably from massaging out minor flaws that happen on the assembly line during new car manufacturing (which is why you could ONLY get the tools from Mercedes Benz IF you were a certified Mercedes shop, back in the old days). It would require a real metal worker, who knows old school metal finishing, to take it to this level.
I’ve worked in the industry as a technician for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen anyone work a dent like you. You are a true artist! Amazing work!
Travis thank you so much for your comment I really appreciate it
And you'll probably never see one again like him. Literally, there's no one in my huge city that does this. Only pathetic little hail and door dings.
Yep you’re fired!
You make it look easy. But you have the knowledge to know what to do. I've tried a bit and learned I don't have the patience, tools or knowledge to do the same. Much respect to you.
New to the channel and in the collision industry for 25 years and you sir are an artist.
Your metalwork is amazing, Ken. I was trained by Natalio Balderama in 1993 and worked alongside some of the best PDR techs in the industry. It always makes me wonder when you repair the dent that I would consider to be backward. Your end result is amazing nonetheless, I always repair the deepest part of the dent first. Funny how many schools of thought there are in the industry. Great channel and ground breaking technology.
It makes sense to repair the edges first. Start with the last part to bend in an accident and work your way to the first part
New subscriber here I’ve been doing body work for a year now and I’ve been telling my bosses to invest in flue pulling but they never listen. This is definitely the future love watching the vids

It’s really hard to teach my dog new tricks. Every shop has their way of working on cars and running their business
Their making money so it’s hard to make a change
Hopefully my voice text makes sense
I am a new member just subscribed today.
just got into this type of repair. I started with a $15 kit from Harbor freight and upgraded to a kit from Eastwood.. I found your youtube channel. While I was looking for videos to help me learn how to use my kit. I’m doing pretty good with it but I see from your videos that I’m not even scratching the surface of what this trade is all about. Thank you for your channel and for putting these videos out here.
You give people Hope!!!
You truly are the Man of Steel!!!!
MAN OF STEEL! I just completed of job of pulling a dent out of the rear quarter panel. Thank you for you channel, you knowledge and the way you work that steel! I have pictures to show off, but I am sure you get plenty of this. I will continue to watch because there is finishing work to do!
THANK YOU!
Im an old school Panel beater in New Zealand. Served my apprenticeship in the early seventies. We made panels by hand etc..Im very impressed by the way you work and the skill you have...All the very best...Graeme Fyffe,Warrington,Otago,NZ

Thank you for your comment
I have a similar history. Grew up metal finishing European High Line cars back in the 1980's
I did a formal 3 year apprenticeship with one shop, under this angry German who swore at me a lot, and finished at a shop owned by a friend of his for all the heavy collision stuff (frame work, changing quarter panels etc...)
So I too am seriously impressed with this entire channel.
Work of art, amazing, so much better than torchering relatively thin metal with grinding, welding, hard hitting.
Great job again! I I’ve seen a lot of your videos and I am still amazed at your results.

Thank you Don
Really nice work. I’ve been using some of those tools for forming patch panels on an old truck. I hate using body filler so enjoy getting the metal back to original shape.
By far the best I have ever seen. Awesome work
Excellent work. I got my door pushed in about 1/2 inch. Not one body shop was able to do the paintless repair. I can't beleive it! It is one tenth of the damage you showed in this video. Thanks for the video. By the way, the low bid was $500.00.
I work at a dealership and we see shotty work all the time. That looks awesome!
I just finished my pdr course ,and I love to watching your videos
I’m very impressed! Great methods and great results!
Great job very impressive repair. Has got to be way better than a panel full of filler for sure. You would never know there was any damage what a result.😁❤
WOW!! HOW BRILLIANT! OMG! This guy is another Master Artist!
I appreciate your video instructions and your great attitude
That's pretty impressive I grew up doing autobody and paint and am trying to get back into it. We never did any paintless dent removal but it seems awesome I would like to learn how to do it

I've been watching your methods for a while now ,and I have learned a whole lot. I've been using the glue for a while now and it's funny you don't even have to tie these cars down to do what you're doing. every once in a while I have to tie a car down but your channel has helped me a lot and I've been doing this for 40 years. and with the electric cars coming out you're not going to be able to weld anymore you're going to have to glue.
Thank you for your comment
I have been watching your channel for awhile simply Amazon... I can never get my glue to stick that well. You the man.
John thank you for your comment
you have to remove the moisture and clean the panel really well
Amazing work!

This is artistry, or sorcery. When I owned part of a body shop 15 years ago, the pdr guy was our secret weapon, the industry was so new to us. Either way this is an industry disrupter. Saves time materials and the environment and the result speaks for itself, what's not to love.
Thank you very much for your comment I appreciate it
You are a bad ass at it. That’s what I call working smarter.
Great work!
Superbly Finished
Love this Segment
Thank you my friend I really appreciate it
First time watching you. Very cool and I really appreciate that your not very wordy but still explain everything! I enjoyed your video.
Thanks for the education on dent removal techniques.
WOW amazing repair! I finally got to watch the full video! Getting the area below the 1/4 panel where the bumper bracket sits is really crucial... You made that look easy !
Martin right on my friend thank you for checking out my video.

@@DentDiscountPDRBodyShop you've been a great help along my journey. I can honestly say I am fixing bigger, nastier dents and getting paid after watching your videos. I've done 3 in the last month that I didnt think I would fix but with the right approach, they fix! I can't thank you enough. My big dent game has stepped up BIG time because of you, and for that, I am very thankful!

Thank you for your comment
I love this works❤
I'm new to this, great learning experience
Hi. New Subscriber from the UK. I cant believe the size of damage you guys can deal with using glue tabs and PDR. In the UK PDR deals with small parking dents only. No way these jobs would be done without weld tabs and full panel paint. Amazing skills!!!!
When PDR started here in the colonies back in the 90s, they also were limited to typical shallow dents, dings, hail damage etc. and wouldn't touch anything with a crease or anything on a body line. I just think it's a natural progression of the art. If PDR is more recent in the U.K., this will naturally catch up.
I just subscribed to your channel after watching a number of your videos and forwarding them to other people. I have huge for you man and owning to the fact that I admire people who think outside of the box. I’m a automotive technician and like to prove people wrong when they conclude something can’t be done. I just wish you were in my area so you could repair a mini right rear panel with a dent. Jah guide, protect and watch over you while you do what you love, more blessings me seh.
Welcome to my channel. Thank you for subscribing.
Nice work. I was trying to see what my options were to fix up a gas tank for my motorcycle... mainly fixing dents. I guess CZcams decided you were the best resource. :D

This is the future of body and fender work.
New subscriber here. Loving the way you're able to flatten out these panels. My car has a dent that I took to 2 pdr guys in puyallup and tacoma Washington. They both said it was too big. I've watched your videos, and you fix stuff that is way worse than my car!! I'd like to bring my car to your shop.
This must be my final bus stop!yesssssss!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
