I am actually letting my watercolours dry completely before moving the misfit around. I just go “under” the paint with the palette knife and take it out. Less work, less paint waste. Though you need to put a bit more force for some colours, but if the well is only half way filled in this blob-like fashion, you shouldn’t have a problem either.
I was thinking the same thing, it would be so much easier than working with the extremely wet paint straight out of the tube like she did, with so much waste! I was also thinking that a pipette might help for moving the wet paint from one well to another, but yeah, I would Definitely let it dry out some before attempting to move it.
More tips for creatives (like me) who haven't done a lot of watercolor painting! 🖌
I am starting to think, that setting up a watercolour palette has a lot of things in common with packing suitcases ... You don't take with you everything you might want to use, but just put in things you cannot be without! Who could have thought ..😂
Love your suggestion of painting the layout of the pallet, never thought of that before, super useful tip. Thank you! 🎨🖌️
That's a Fantastic analogy, and I think looking at it from that perspective would really help when loading the palette, (And a suitcase, I have a bad habit of packing everything I Might need, like 12 pairs of shoes for 1 week 🙄). You're very wise! I wrote your quote down for future reference. We are going to Hawaii in June, and I'm sure my husband will Greatly appreciate your help 😁
🖌️ I love your large ceramic palette.
Great video. I use this style of palette too, American Journey from cheap Joe’s I do believe for me. I used to think in the beginning of my journey I HAD to have all the wells filled with paint. Now a few years down the line and many paintings later I have empty wells. I found that I use a certain group of colours more often than others, despite having buckets of tubes in my studio, and once a colour was NOT being used I just quit filling the empty well. My tastes changed and so did the colours in the wells. So my little bit of advice for newbies is do NOT fill up all the wells before you start developing your taste. Fill with the colours you love to use, leave spaces between the families of colours and fill with the special used over and over colours you LOVE. Also take note of some colours that play better when squeezed fresh, like Winsor lemon or Burnt sienna ( Winsor newton) and put those out in smaller blobs.
The colour map of what is in the wells is an ABSOLUTE must. Saves me all the time when I forget which yellow I have at one time or another. The first swatch map is a mess with changes so the new one with the new choices is slowly developing.
Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for your helpful advice!
Hullo Carrie, always a pleasure seeing you work and create your art, art space or equipment! 🖍🎨

🎨 Great video. Thank you so much! Greetings from Peru. 🇵🇪
🖌 love your palette. 😊
🎨 I enjoyed this! 🙂
🎨🖌️ Enjoyed the video.
It's nice to have a porcelain palette with wells but I think porcelain plates or square plates would be easier to clean and if you squeeze your paints into full size pans and put magnets on the bottom you could stick them to a metal ruler if you wanted them in a row on your table but you could also easily pop whatever colours you want in and out of travelling tins.
🖌 Great video, I will check out your others!
❤silly me I don’t have any cool pallets or brushes but I did watch to the end while on my walk
Thank you for sharing. Peace.🖌

🎨🦯great video, thanks 😊
Thanks!🎨
🎨 Thank you!
so nice
I’m so lazy I would’ve just changed the swatch sheet 😂 love the editing here 🖌🖌
I would have let it dry, then pop it off and move it and paste it down with new dab of paint.
🎨 THANK YOU!
You’re welcome 😊
My first time on your channel, this may sound weird, but I really like the way you speak, you have a soothing voice and you're interesting to listen to. I can't wait to check out your other videos, so subscribed, naturally 😊🎨. I absolutely love this swatch chart tip! I don't know why I didn't think of it, it also doubles as an actual swatch reference, as well as a reference for which color is where for refilling. It's so simple, but so freaking brilliant! Would a pipette work for lifting the unwanted paint out of the well? I use Glad Press & Seal for covering my pallette, I have cats and learned the hard way. The Press & Seal is pretty amazing for a variety of paint preservation needs. I've also used it in the past to wrap a paint brush with paint still on it to keep it fresh (like when I'm doing Chinese watercolor and loading several colors on the brush in a specific order at the same time, or when I'm preserving paint for theatre set touch ups). I wish someone would create a perfect method for securely covering palettes of all shapes and sizes without lids. How do you use fabric? Do you just lay it on top? My issue is that until I finish clearing the clutter cleaned out of my former guest room to convert it into my "Art Room," I'm painting at the kitchen table, so I have to clear it off and store my supplies when I'm done, so it's vital that I find a secure and careful way to store my palettes so that they don't get messy and to keep chunks of the dried paint from falling out of the wells, or have something poke into the wells and mess it all up, so I would much prefer a hard lid.
It's never occurred to me to refresh my pallette like that before, but it makes perfect sense, like Sima says below, it's hard to find inspiration when working with a messy, mixed up pallette.
I love your ceramic pallette, it looks very expensive, but a worthwhile investment for something that will theoretically last a lifetime, if not several 😊
great tip about painting the layout on a paper. since I am doing this on my very old school laptop and not my phone no palette emoji - sorry. but I did watch to the end
Basically :) I say that word a lot too.
Cool watercolour pallet OMG its so big
Yeah love the room :)
Merci 🫶🎨🖌️👩🎨❤
🎨 mwah
Way too much perfectionism to pass on to artists who are trying to be free of this kind of constraint! Let yourself get wild💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿

Great tips. Where can I get a palette like yours? Thanks
Jackson's Art supplies! Love it so much! I think they discontinued the exact version I own - but they have one comparable that is 32 wells. The one in this video has 30.

I really like this particular palette. Where can I find it? Brand name etc?

I just leave my ‘mistaken placements’ where they are. I can see what is there and dip my brush accordingly.
