You are such an intelligent young woman, an amazing teacher and a talented artist. Thank you for all your help and I look forward to watching more of your tutorials!
Thanks Nancy! :D
Honestly, the truest thing on this video is save the white. I'm still learning to save the white and I'm starting to learn that the white is crucial. It's so difficult so I'm glad you mentioned trying to paint in a monochromatic style!
I can't believe I've never thought of using my pipette to wet the pan/palette! Great video.
Yeah! And It makes things go so much quicker :D
"fill the whole page up with colour" this is exactley what one of my art teachers told me back in school to do when we where trying out watercolours, and this is exactley the reson why I have not touched this medium since. He wasn't a good teacher I know thst now, I have been thinking about giving it a chance again. Thank you for a very informative and great video😁
I love the idea of working with a transparency chart to practice shading and the idea of trying to work with just the one colour for shading techniques! I will definitely give these a try this week :)
Love the transparency and monochromatic point. As a beginner with water color I was getting flustered and now I think I'll go back to the basics!
Wish I had known these tips as a beginner. I've had to go back and correct many of my mistakes because I didn't know these to start with. Still learning! Thank you for the help! Teddy is so cute!
Thanks Tiffany! :D I wish I had known these too! They would have helped ALOT of my beginner blunders.
you need no one to find that adding water make color lighter !
“Just one color.” A very clever idea. Thank you🌸
I've been adding white paint to my watercolors to lighten it for months... This was really helpful thank you 😊
This is my first time watching your videos. I really love it! It gives me new ideas for practicing my watercolor!! Thank you so much!! I'm eager to watch more of these videos!
I just started out water coloring so happy I found your CZcams page I love it💮
You're a good teacher - thank you for all the knowledge, tips, and inspiration! 🎨💙👏🏻
I had no confidence and no clue what to do with water colors but you just allowed me to have some confidence in using water colors! Thanks !!
This is really the best tips I could have had, I've been watercoloring for some weeks now and I thought something that really off with my paintings, they looked blank ! Now I'll try harder and apply all your tips
This tutorial help me so much! Thank you:) especially with the "save the white" one it's so helpfull. I always wonder why my painting often look dull and maybe that's one of the reason
All wise advice. I like how you stick to "artist" language...like value and hue. That's how artists talk and communicate specifics to each other. It's important to learn the language. Great video.
Awesome for beginners! Thank you!
I also would recommend learning the wet on wet technique. Not that I'm a pro. 😅
Thanks for the tip! I am going to practice each color as you suggest.
saving the white I love that tip
Thank you for making this. I recently just started using watercolors, and this helped a lot.
just purchased my first porcelain flower palette ;) thank you for sharing your knowledge and your lovely illustrations. I used to do just paintings but have been interested in illustration for a while now, and thinking about switching my works a bit, incorporating more of illustrative pieces so you sharing your opinions and experience in the field is very appreciated. Your chameleon illustrations is my favourite btw but they are all very sweet and beautifully rendered. Thank you once again and have a lovely day. Greetings from England :)
I use deviled egg platters for mixing palettes! Abundant choice of them at the thrift stores!
Thank you Carrie for these great tips !! Love your channel
Too cute! Love your style. Thanks for teaching me skills!
Thank you for all of your excellent tips and guidance to understand the wonderful world of watercolor!! After taking several watercolor classes at community education, I now know what a really good instructor is! Thanks again...
Thanks soooo much! This means alot to me! :D
Hi! Great video! I’m just learning watercolour on an evening course and you’re helping me loads! Thanks again 🤗
I live this monochromatic idea it can give you how to think water with one colour thanks for that I'm always trying
Mil Els
I agree. Not having to deal with a color palette lets me concentrate on technique.
Very cool tips Carrie :) I loved the one with the pipette wetting the pan. So simple tricks but can make life so much easier when painting!
Thank you for the tips! These will help me in the future, painting in my sketchbook!
Thanks for sharing your tips
Still feel like beginner & some tips may sound simple but now learning more about each color use & you are so correct about one day (color likes me) & next not so much! Ty

Thank you this is really helping me. I only had my first lesson today but don't have any equipment for myself yet but can't wait to start
Great tips, please keep them coming! Thank you 🎨
Taking a slightly different perspective, “Transparency in 2D design is simply the quality of being able to see through (or partially see through) one or more layers in an artwork. Like texture, transparency can be real or it can be implied or suggested. Opacity is a similar term but refers to the inability to see through a layer.”
When I listened to the beginning of your presentation it seemed that you might be equating the value of light and dark colors with transparency. My thought is that you can have dark colors that are transparent or opaque and light colors that are transparent or opaque, unrelated to value.
A light color such as say, Hansa Yellow, can be as opaque or transparent as say, Ultramarine Blue, and the transparency of a color may be impacted by the properties of the minerals that make up the color. Some colors simply are more transparent than others regardless of the water added, just as other colors are more granular.
It is true that when you add water to a color, you can achieve a lighter value of that color. I just think it is good to remember that transparency is about the ability to see through a color, regardless of whether it is light or dark. Value does not, in my mind, equal transparency. Thanks for the opportunity to comment and happy painting!
In a way, you're being just as reductive. With watercolor, most everyone will be painting on a white substrate and the only time that thinning will result in a darker value is if you're painting over something that's already got a darker value, which quite often in this medium is a rare case.
In a vacuum, yes, thinning only affects opacity and saturation. In practice, it affects saturation, value, and possibly hue because of how it interacts with other layers.
This is the best video about art that I have ever seen in my hole life. I really love it. Btw, you really helped me a lot!!! Thanks.
Very simple lecture by an attractive teacher.
I find a pallet of a few solid watercolors and a small water brush is great for beginners. Liquid paints can be tricky.
This is actually a really good tutorial. Great job. 10/10 would recommend lol.
You are awesome! Love this video!
i´ll try this. thanks!
watching you paint is so therapeutic, thank you for the art inspo^^

We literally did this same process in art class, but with acrylics xD
This helped me a lot! Thank u!
I love the way you film and edit your videos! I’m just learning how to edit and it’s so time consuming even with just the basics so I can imagine all the planning and time your videos take. *GOALS*
My favorite skill is the last one because I think it's important to know that you're going to mess up, and you're going to get frustrated and it's OKAY. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. Thanks for the encouragement!
So true! Thanks for commenting! :D
I just love how you came to us through a closet
And thank you for the very informative information

Thank you! This is really helpful!
usually videos that tell me what i'm doing wrong or what i should do don't help but this was actually pretty good
You are such an inspiration to everyone .. God bless
As someone who's currently switching from the student set I got when I first started back in April to Artist grade, I've learned that last step is especially true. I recently got a pack of Qors just for fun, and wow, the claims are at worst slightly overstated. They spread easily. I much prefer the brand I'm using now, though the Qors are also fun to use now and then. Step 1 also cannot be overstated. I work on that one a lot and only occasionally use the white paint I have (Generally just for tiny highlights). Still working on steps 2 and 3.
Thanks Lola for commenting! It's so true - you never know what your paints are gonna do for you until you experiment. :D
teddies looks just like my new puppy, clover! i really neeeed this!🐶

For no ce sized pallets with plenty of space, use deviled egg trays , porcelain and ceramic kinds, you can even find them at the dollar store sometimes.
Loved this video ! Would love the doggie templete. thanks, Marilyn
