The only visible injury is a scratch… immediately to the hospital without hesitation? That’s what’s bothering me, you as an investigator would completely disregard the idea that the boyfriend could have done it? A guy who appears drunk, is walking and talking, and tells you an unbelievable story- immediately believe him? I just don’t understand.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe he deserved any of this or should have been interrogated for hours. Yes, that was way too long. What I’m bothered by is the way people talk. Do any of you watch true crime stories?! All of you would let killers and abusers walk because you’re just going to believe the boyfriend? THAT is infuriating! the thing that sickens me about this case is that ryan saying he wants to go to sleep just makes me uneasy because thats his body indicating that it wants to give up and die, i have a similar experiance with my mother when i was 8, but my uncle shot her in her heart this time and she was somehow still alive, she went to the hospital but was questioned by the lapd. she kept on saying i wnat to go to sleep, but the messed up thing is that me and my brother were really sad when she said that stuff, 2 hours later she died.😔

Asking them to learn how to do a third thing would be simply too much cognitive load for them to handle. They would probably have a stroke just trying. Yeah I had a really hard brain trauma and basically you skip around from thought to thought, you just want to sleep and if you do you will probably die but not always. Then you have these moments of clarity but you have to be walked along step by step with the truth. So lets say you were hit by a car and they said "A white car hit you?" youd skip to the truth of that and talk about it, then they might say somehting like "yellow" and "yeah and she has a yellow one", and they will be like "a yellow what?" and then you just dont know what they are talking about cause they said yellow not you, if they knew your memory they could keep you coherent all night like "Yeah she has a yellow bag?" and youd be like "yeah she does, she keeps her stuff in it", so if the cop had of said "so they got you in a sleeping hold, a headlock" he would have been like "yeah" and given more details.

yeh hubby had an aneurysm clot in his brain but we didnt figure out that was the issue for a couple days, at first honestly though it was just a blazing migraine cause he was passing all that kind of "stroke test" stuff. eventually tho it starts shifting his thinking sidewas. long long story but the short point of it is when we saw this initial interrogation we were both like "oh my god. hes got a concussion or someone DID shoot this guy in the head". originally watched a much longer clip of this and i still cant bear to watch it again. it made my husband absolutely sick to his stomach because even though when he tries to recall he can't remember being in that dreamy state when he heard this kid he recognized it immediately :( heartbreaking. And the flipping details thing, (something that happend to someone else, saying it happened to you) -- my mother was doing that the week before she passed in hospice. So if you said "I bumped my knee" there was a chance she would say "I bumped my knee" and echo / reflect it, then insiste it was she who did it, etc. Yes, dying brain matter stuff, as she was passing slowly, yeah, we were watching this poor kid dying on camera. just.. this whole thing was terible :(

As soon as the kid started waffling about bow and arrows and then revolvers and his recollection of the events changing so drastically, this detective should've realised he was being serious about being shot in the eye. Even before he entered the interrogation room they should've assessed his injuries and realised sooner he needed medical attention. Truly disgusting. I hope that detective lives with those memories and how he cared more about a prosecution than a young man with a gunshot wound to the face no less.

Also for context Ryan was completely innocent. His apartment was broken into. He was shot twice in the head and lost consciousness. His girlfriend was shot and killed by the perpetrators. When Ryan awoke, he was in such a poor mental state from his injuries that he thought his girlfriend was simply asleep on the couch when she was actually dead. When her parents hadn't heard from her, they called police for a wellness check I think. And that's when they found her and took Ryan into custody. There's several videos about this case. Edit: I probably got a few of the details wrong but I do remember seeing a video on this case and from what I remember Ryan was most definitely innocent.
