SnagIt 2024 Review | What’s in it for You?

- Snagit 2024 is now available. This video is a review of the features with some examples of how to use the latest features. This way you can see what’s in it for you and help you decide if you need it. Most of the upgrades revolve around video features but even if you are a screenshot person, there are some changes for you too.

SnagIt 2024 - This years updates were interesting and some of which can create a more efficient workflow.
I do like the mouse pointer effects, it does let the pointer do the talking more when you don’t need so much narrative. Also adding smaller videos to make a larger one is a game changer great addition. But come on haaannnnnggggg on a second! The blooper reel at the end, you mean you are human and it takes a few sittings!! Made me chuckle and nice to show everyone, creating is swings and roundabouts not everyone gets it right the first time, even though you think that when watching the final polished product 🤩 Great job Heather.
Thank you. I have been toying with the idea of a blooper real for a bit and this one had at least one, IMO, funny one.
@@HeatherMajors I have gone down to one screen, is it possible to record full screen and not see the draw control tool bar from the recording? Thank you 🙂
That isa good question and I had to do a bit of digging to find a partial answer. From the capture tool go to File > Capture preferences > Capture Tab > check hide snagit when capturing. The slight problem is that it will not hide the draw toolbar. It makes it smaller in the lower corner on my machine so at least it is less obtrusive. The second slight problem is it hides the draw toolbar exit option so the first time I tired it I was stuck with no way to use my mouse. So you will need to write down the hotkeys on the hotkeys tab or change it to something that makes sense to you. For example the default draw mode is ctrl+shift+D and stop video is shift+f10. Hope that helps.
@@HeatherMajors thanks Heather. That would explain why when watching a few demos (from Techsmith too) they choose an area of the screen to record rather than full screen, so the toolbars sit just outside it. I will look at the hotkeys, or just purchase another second screen 😉
@@squareggs Yea, when testing I just put it down near the bottom right of the screen and then not much of the screen is excluded. But to be honest, I could not function as well without my second screen. But you know me, I always say do what makes sense for your.
Thanks for the video😉, which confirms that for "static" use (without video, for which I use Camtasia or ScreenFlow) the 2024 version compared to my current 2022 only comes with colored smileys... Very little stuff to justify a almost $40 upgrade, honestly...
Hi, that was how I felt about the 2023 upgrade which is why I did not do a video last year. But in all honesty I have the annual maintenance for $13 so I get the upgrade every year included. So for that price I am fine getting all the updates so I can play :)
@@HeatherMajors Thanks for reply... strangely my upgrade (but it's like this every year) costs €34, much more than your annual $13... at that figure I would also leave the permanent contract, but frankly even €34 would cost me It seems like a lot for this upgrade.
@@APalmieri That is strange. But yea that is a lot for this years upgrade if you don't use all the video features. That is really the big news this year. I am of the opinion that if you are not like me and just want to play with stuff, save your money until the upgrades are something you would actually use. My boss is still on 2017 :)
Did Techsmith fix the issue in Windows 11 23H2 where the Windows snipping tool tries running over SnagIt?
Hi Mike, I think that they did but cannot find exactly when in the version history file. All I can say is that this has not been an issue for me for a long time. But I did switch my hot key early on so that SnagIt and Windows 11 were not in conflict.
