Every time i hear "LABOUR SHORTAGES" my blood boils. I was trained in several fields and 6 years of college and employers don't care, they want someone who already has 5 years of experience. There is no labour shortage, there is an ethical employment shortage.

for real! Not only is the industry I graduated into at an all time low, many of my classmates are struggling just to find any work in general. Even trying to get multiple jobs is difficult because lots of part time places don't want to compete for your hours with another store. They all want adults that can somehow manage to live on 16/h and only work weekends.

Stats Canada hasn't been properly updated since 2016/2021 It says 2023 but then you click on population of a town and you can see the stats used from that town (not all but some) come from stats in 2016.(which were added to the 2021 stats) For example many towns in BC have not done a census since 2016. So stats Canada still uses those stats to update the Canadian stats. The ones that can afford to leave probably have not been able to find a job reflecting their skill set so a doctor or teacher doesn't exactly want to work in a grocery store or as a carpenter. And at a certain age or with the years experience they have they don't exactly want to get into debt going back to 4 or 5 years of school. Or even 2 years of school, why should they when their credentials get recognized easily elsewhere.

The Canadian government has not updated it's Stats so what New Comers see when they look up housing prices and labour market. It still reflects 2016. They never let those coming here know how difficult it is to get their credentials recognized or the lack of housing. So a Dentist or a Director from a University end up working at Super Store. Also, as soon as they arrive they are told these short certificates that they take will get them an excellent job when in reality it's a cash grab and they don't end up getting hired anywhere as the course and school is not recognized. Totally ripping them off. Basically we have set up a system where a nurse from another Country can't even become a care aid. Ridiculous how many road blocks there are. And then of course there's the lack of housing not just the price. (I am from BC so this is coming from a BC perspective)

Arbitrary migration targets are simultaneously increasing demand and suppressing wage growth. There are better ways to control immigration. I would suggest demand based approach with some guard rails in place. For instance, I would require all educational institutions to provide housing for international student (at least 50%). Businesses should be required to provide accommodation to all temporary/seasonal workers on top of the minimum wage. In order to hire foreigners employers should be required to prove that he is paying enough to afford housing in the region (market cost of accommodation is less than 30% of salary). Accommodation for refugees should be secured before bringing them to the country from around the globe. No accommodation = no permits. It would limit demand and prevent wage suppression.

I got here with my wife less than a year ago. My employer doesn't pay what is stated on my work contract. I think there's a lot of abuse from employers on immigrants coming in on closed work permits. The reason we've stayed is because we've invested a lot of time and effort into getting here just to give up easily. Had we known it would be like this, we would have probably not come. Mind you, not all employers are like this, I just happened to run into bad luck. I know of other cases in which this happens and it's infuriating. My wife is a nurse and cant work here as one due to restrictions in her work permit. I guess there's no demand in the healthcare industry here...

The immigration Ponzi scheme lures migrants to Canada without enough affordable housing to accommodate them. This drives up housing costs for Canadians already here. At the same time, the flood of cheap labour reduces wages making housing even more unaffordable. Moreover, a flood of cheap labour hampers the transition to higher value added businesses by encouraging lower value businesses, thus further limiting income growth. Productivity growth is the an essential way forward to affordable housing. The answer is to stem the flood of migrants until rising wages meets lower housing costs. Also, Canada needs to lower its overall population if it is serious limiting its carbon footprint in this cold climate with long distances between cities. Higher productivity with higher wages meets lower housing demand caused by limiting immigration!
