I’ve been driving performance cars most of my life and finally decided to get something different - got a Jeep Wrangler, and so far love it after 4-months. It’s whatever makes you comfortable though, I’ve had nice cars that others love and I absolutely hate, and it’s just pointless keeping it if you aren’t happy with it. A suggestion - don’t spend thousands on a car until you’ve driven it for at least a full month or two - no one’s going to want to pay for upgrades, especially a dealer if you trade in. Hope the new truck turns out to be awesome for you!!
Dude no cap: 1. you went from a go-kart to a truck. All trucks feel a little loose in the steering. Maybe a new one with electronic steering will feel a bit better. But anything with hydraulic steering will feel this way if it has a longer steering shaft. Which almost all trucks have. 2. wranglers ride like garbage when you put massive negative offset wheels and throw a lift on without changing any other components to correct the new suspension angles of everything. 3. the tongue weight thing for the dirt bike..... it's not going to fall off. Don't be a chump. You see people towing like 500lbs over weight all the time. No ones going to nark on you for being like 3 lbs overweight, and I guarantee the truck won't feel any different.
The steering is not a flaw it's a feature. If you're off roading you don't want every rock to impact your steering. It was built for primarily off roading so yea.
Trucks and larger vehicles have the same play in the steering wheel bc it makes it easier to drive. Imagine if the jeep had tight sport steering, it would be very dangerous bc any small movement in the steering wheel could cause you to lose control. My yukon and 4 runner has loose steering like that
Am I going crazy? I’m driving a 2021 Wrangler Sahara and I have absolutely no problems with the steering at all. I don’t understand all of the ‘loose steering’ complaints. I mean, initially I was surprised but I adapted to it extremely quickly. Loving it now tbh.
Saying the Wrangler handles bad on the road is the same as saying a Nissan GT-R handles bad off road…. Like no shit, Wranglers are made to be driven off-road.
Jeeps are the best off road vehicles for trails and snow/mud and for rock crawling me and my dad are in a jeep club called mud sweat and gears sonora California. We are in the Christmas parade and the Mother’s Day round up parade. It's because of the big sidewall on the side of the tire. 😅 That's why you have so much slop in the steering as it's the flex in the sidewall of the tire. It's not actual play inside the steering mechanism. At least I'd hope not with a vehicle that new. Since it's a live axle, you can put a steering stabilizer on there to help mitigate some of it just to give it a tighter feel this is because you're pushing against a shock. However, it is safe. The vehicle is tracking straight even though you were wiggling the wheel. 😅
Live axle front ends don't drive like IFS vehicles. There is also an adjustment screw on the side of the steering box (live axles don't have rack and pinion) to set the amount of play. Jeep was having an issue with steering box mount flex which may be what you are experiencing. Either way, it is still a pretty small vehicle to keep in the lane.
The play in the steering wheel is beneficiary for off road applications. Most people that don’t like the excessive play take it to the dealership and get it “fixed”…. I personally don’t mind it at all
The steering set up is that way because it has to be good off road. Similarly suspension in sports cars has to be good when driving at high speeds which makes it worse at slow speeds. Your little car can't off road so steering is only tuned for the road.
Very good video Luke. Sorry to hear you get rid of your Jeep. I have a JL Wrangler Unlimited and love it. I decided not to get the lift kit and 35" tires for modification. I love the way it looks and plan on adding some Pillar lights next. I want to be different from everyone else. I'm happy you are getting what you want. GOD Bless, JESUS Best!
I’m 16 years old and I drive a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, given to me by my dad. Driving it is a pain because of how big it is, and if hard 35in tires and a 4 inch life. I can’t even drive it in electric mode because it’s out of power in like 25 miles and I gotta switch to gas. :(

I have often thought of getting a Jeep, as they look like fun and the whole image thing. I never did, as I honestly don't see myself going off road, nor having the time to learn to drive off road. Someone I work with bought a Gladiator. Spent in excess of $50K, I just can't rationalize that. I have a 2014 Merecedes C300 with the 3.5 L 6 cylinder and has not failed me once in the snow. On dry roads it's beautifully maneuverable and quite comfortable and I bought it for $14K 3 years ago. I have accepted who I am not who I wish to be. I have found sometimes you need to learn the difference: what do I want versus what do I need.
Please do your research when installing new suspension components on Jeep Wranglers. Anything you change that has to do with lift, wheels/tires, etc will have an adverse effect on something else. People think they can just throw on stuff and act like it’s going to drive like a race car.
Not only will you not get back what you paid for the mods to the Jeep, you also de-valued the Jeep itself. Most people want the Jeep to be stock then add their own mods. It pays to drive a car for a bit and decide if you really like it and intend to keep it before dumping lots of cash into it only to get rid of it a short while later.
True words. No one wants a modded vehicle, and it kills the value. I bought a '21 Sport S, and bought factory Rubicon Dana 44 axles in the crate front and rear, for $5,000. Did it make it stronger? Of course, but that was money spent, not invested.

Definitely should have research buying a Jeep. Sounds like you liked the idea of having a Jeep but you really had no idea what a Jeep would like. As long as you got the money more power to you.
I'm researching buying a jeep now and the steering thing has come up alot. But I hear she might need more effort. Which will be good for her. LOL
I love my jeep lots of fun to drive but i get why others dont enjoy driving them. The rear wheel drive gives it a sensation of driving a forklift which some people who are so used to forward drive a very uncomfortable feeling. They also are boxxy and you can really feel it in the wind.
The Sahara trim in this video is front wheel drive. I commute 60 miles everyday and there is zero discomfort. I truly don’t understand how ppl complain about this jeep on road.
@@Daviddontcare I guess theres jeep people and then others. They either get it or dont, i love my 2dr wrangler, so much fun to drive 10/10 for me and its my daily driver could use some more trunk space but i can fold the seats down (i wish it had some latch for the seats) and im fine.
1st-world problems. 😂 There have been recalls/TSBs for the JL/JLU steering. It'd also likely drive better if you chose the rims/tires better. Maybe some rims and 33x10.5s that fit under the flares would feel tighter. I'd also triangulate the upper suspension linkages, to reduce wander and eliminate the need for wobble-prone trackbars. Several hitches available for the Unlimited have had 400lb tongue ratings for a while, and new Rubicon JLUs are rated for up to 5000lb towing, 500lb+ tongue. I tow my motos on a folding 4x8 Harbor Freight trailer. It takes up a similar storage footprint as my dualsport.
One man's drink is another man's poison. I love my Sahara Unlimited Altitude and the Sky 1 touch is awesome. Putting 35 inch tires and 20 inch Fuel wheels on it next month. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO!
“Poke” Is illegal in most countries as well. In Australia and most countries in Europe and Africa the law is that the tires cannot go outside the guards or fenders depending on where you are in the world. North America is the exception to this. Jeepers with international overlanding dreams be warned. Also u think the steering is bad on this try an older TJ wrangler. It was so light a an oncoming semi can push you into a ditch.
to compare a lifted jeep on oversize tires to you sports car in the way it drives is just ridiculous. Realize they have completely different steering systems and serve completely different purposes. If you had more driving experience you would be able to handle both with confidence. Increased caster angle and adjusting the steering gear box would change the jeep dramatically,
Now THAT'S how you throw approximately $45000 down the toilet... Why don't you buy a Hummer H1 and Duramax-swap the engine? You can also add a bit luxury in the interior too
should've gone 17 inch beadlocks, patagonia 36 inch (lighter than your setup btw) with the same stance. you need to get shift your front axle forward going up that much from stock. just by maybe an inch forward. and half inch back. that'll give you a much more comfortable wheelbase to drive with. or just getting stiffer springs (in back mainly) helps you not get your weight weighed down by a trailer. then just do a steering stabilizer and man it rides WAY better than most airbag bmw's. that wheel wiggle is your steering which after changing your geometry so much you haven't accounted for after the upgrades from stock. my jeep doesn't do that at all. Geometry of a vehicle is important. so accounting for the steering and stabilizing parts after you raise your vehicle and moved your axles closer together will always make it drive worse. sucks you don't want to try that.
I rent an renagade Jeep last vacation and felt the same to drive. I thought "I don't like this car". And never drove more than 90km/h. I felt insecure.
You need to change your gearing when you upgrade your wheel size. Like 5k then u would need some suspension work about 2 3k so u need about 8k you cannot halfway setup your vehicle
The offset is cool, but I hate when people put huge rims with skinny sidewall tires on wranglers…it screams I’m a mall crawler and will never touch off road once.
Late to the party, but I got to tell you that you don’t even notice that “looseness” after a couple of months. All my jeeps have been that way at first…and people who’ve never driven one before comment on it when they drive mine, but I honestly don’t notice it until someone mentions it.
Apples and oranges, my friend. I have an Infiniti G35, which has the same innards as your Z. Both cars have exceptional handling and control. Jeeps are not that, nor should they be. They're not made for tight cornering and superior handling (like the G and the Z). Don't be discouraged. Stick with the Jeep for a bit.
Take those big tires and wheels off. It will drive and look better. Also, Wranglers should only have 2 doors. They are way more fun to drive when they aren’t 4-door mom/dad cars
Your observations and opinions are valid. Maybe put your thoughts together so you can finish a thought without interrupting it so many times. Too bad you didn’t like the jeep…. Only the way it looked. They aren’t for everyone… like you.
so you dont like the streering but did zero research in a fix for this? no all jeeps have this, mine did and they fixed it in 30 min at the dealer for free. silly to get rid of something with out doing any research
A Jepp CAN be a daily driver, but I prefer a BMW or Mercedes. What a Wrangler is great at is being car #5, next to your convertible and your diesel truck. When you have storage and parking, which may mean as you get older, having a Jeep to play with is great.
Totally agree. I've had an X5 and a GLS 550 and they were a joy to drive on a 90 mile commute .. I've moved to a 2018 JKU a few years ago with lift and big tires and its a chore to get behind the wheel for the trip. Fun at speeds with freedom tops off below 50 mph, but anything after that feels like you're dragging a cruise ship anchor. Sound system sucks and random roof leaks .. as. you say, should just be a go-kart for days off.
I get what you're saying about the steering... buuuuuut... it's wrack and pinion. Just have to know how to stay ahead of her is all. I set mine into the left lane, drop her into 6th and hammer her out at 80, single handed. She's fine.
I have an 2020 wrangler and it doesn’t have heated seats and a normal screen, my screen is SiriusXM and I have red seats and it doesn’t have heated seats, I wish it did but it don’t but it’s still nice anyways and I love it
the color matched fenders tell you got it to look cool not to go off roading, I understand why you are getting rid of it. its definitely not a "comfortable" vehicle to drive in the city especially on the high way where you have a lot of feed back on the steering wheel front any bumps on the road at high speed. which can be, scary.
Newsflash! Pickup trucks drive and handle just Like jeeps do, they ain't sports cars. These jeeps are great for rock crawling and serious off roading...but, if you're not doing those activities, the jeep wrangler is just a mid size SUV with a v6 engine.
I agree with you about the steering. I test drove a wrangler for the first time this year and the steering was the deal breaker. Even at 35 mph it was unnerving.
14 year Jeep Wrangler JK owner/driver here. When you drive the Jeep did it wobble severely it's called a death wobble that how serious it feels. It can be caused by many things but the main thing, which was my problem, was a tire that was different than the other 3 . Simple fix right.
@@tena477 when I drove the jeep the steering required constant input from me to correct left - right movement. Even on straight level ground. It would wander all over the place and there was a noticeable dead spot of about 20 degrees of steering rotation where nothing would happen. Like a very sloppy steering gear. The salesperson said that’s normal. I see lots of teenage drivers with these wranglers and I can’t understand how they are able rot drive these as a first car if they are really all that bad.
The play in the steering wheeling because it goes off-road The Wrangler is great for off-road and so so for on-road Each state and province has rules and laws for the vehicles Once you change anything on a vehicle that is outside of oem items than the higher the chance vehicles will fail their inspections
if it drives bad, the lift wasn’t installed right. as for the steering wheel play, it needs a new steering stabilizer and there was a steering box recall to remove all that. i have a 2018 JL Sahara with a 2” lift and drives better than stock.

They either get it or dont, i love my 2dr wrangler, so much fun to drive 10/10 for me and its my daily driver could use some more trunk space but i can fold the seats down (i wish it had some latch for the seats) and im fine.
te
hen buy a forklift idiot

Me too 2 door 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK. I love it
1st-world problems. 😂
There have been recalls/TSBs for the JL/JLU steering.
Hi
One man's drink is another man's poison. I love my Sahara Unlimited Altitude and the Sky 1 touch is awesome. Putting 35 inch tires and 20 inch Fuel wheels on it next month. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO!
I know I’m late but. Maxing out the tongue weight is fine. It’s rated at 350 because that’s what it can safely handle.
My 21 JL steering aren’t like that. Running 33x12.50R17 with stock suspension. Comfortable ride
Okay........you NEED a Canadian HORSE like the Mounties and the steering will be EXCELLENT!
We support you. I think it was a good choice I’ve been with you for about 4 years
Then he quits lol
Increased caster angle and adjusting the steering gear box would change the jeep dramatically,
So sorry to hear…I’ve been driving wranglers shy of 10 years now. Nothing like it.
Wranglers are the best bro
My wife drove my JK 4 door the other day and said it is not for her but gets why I like it.
I own a '19 Wrangler Sport S had it since it was new. I thoroughly enjoy it and will keep it till it literally dies, then I will rebuild it..
The 360lbs limit for the hitch is not the limit, they say a lower number than it can actually handle so that they can't be fined
Luke I got a yz250 aswell and we should ride one day at my house I'm 2 hours away in drayton valley
Now THAT'S how you throw approximately $45000 down the toilet...
Why don't you buy a Hummer H1 and Duramax-swap the engine? You can also add a bit luxury in the interior too
I love your car channel
Lemme guess it a ford raptor. Or Chevy truck ??
should've gone 17 inch beadlocks, patagonia 36 inch (lighter than your setup btw) with the same stance. you need to get shift your front axle forward going up that much from stock. just by maybe an inch forward. and half inch back. that'll give you a much more comfortable wheelbase to drive with. or just getting stiffer springs (in back mainly) helps you not get your weight weighed down by a trailer. then just do a steering stabilizer and man it rides WAY better than most airbag bmw's. that wheel wiggle is your steering which after changing your geometry so much you haven't accounted for after the upgrades from stock. my jeep doesn't do that at all. Geometry of a vehicle is important. so accounting for the steering and stabilizing parts after you raise your vehicle and moved your axles closer together will always make it drive worse. sucks you don't want to try that.
This☝️
Yes dirt bike content will be amazing
Im really happy your posting on this channel again Luke
I rent an renagade Jeep last vacation and felt the same to drive. I thought "I don't like this car". And never drove more than 90km/h. I felt insecure.
Les goo new vid
U can buy a reinforced bracket that fixes the jeep for about 175$
You need to change your gearing when you upgrade your wheel size. Like 5k then u would need some suspension work about 2 3k so u need about 8k you cannot halfway setup your vehicle
I was going to change the gears if I kept it.
Too soon 😢
😢 too late
Dude in your neighbouring province Saskatchewan here those are not legal
The offset is cool, but I hate when people put huge rims with skinny sidewall tires on wranglers…it screams I’m a mall crawler and will never touch off road once.
Late to the party, but I got to tell you that you don’t even notice that “looseness” after a couple of months. All my jeeps have been that way at first…and people who’ve never driven one before comment on it when they drive mine, but I honestly don’t notice it until someone mentions it.
Also jeeps are known for “death wobble” after mods. They still have a “death wobble” stock but it happens after you gain more miles.
They aren’t for everyone… like you.
so you dont like the streering but did zero research in a fix for this? no all jeeps have this, mine did and they fixed it in 30 min at the dealer for free. silly to get rid of something with out doing any research
love your content luke
Let's go Luke I love trucks and ur channel glad ur buying a truck!
She's fine.
Whatever makes you happy Luke
Please do a full house tour
In 2 weeks 😊
Hi.
I have an 2020 wrangler and it doesn’t have heated seats and a normal screen, my screen is SiriusXM and I have red seats and it doesn’t have heated seats, I wish it did but it don’t but it’s still nice anyways and I love it
But a miata
Love this channel! Great work, please post soon
i am a jeep fanatic. And everything you said in this video is correct. I have 3 jeep wranglers. and your video was perfect.
Good video,
There was a recall on the steering stabilizer and I’m sure that was your issue.
That Jeep needed some love and I know someone ELSEwill fix it and love it
the color matched fenders tell you got it to look cool not to go off roading, I understand why you are getting rid of it. its definitely not a "comfortable" vehicle to drive in the city especially on the high way where you have a lot of feed back on the steering wheel front any bumps on the road at high speed. which can be, scary.
I accidentally disliked the video and it said feedback shared with creator but I'm just saying I accidentally disliked
Newsflash! Pickup trucks drive and handle just Like jeeps do, they ain't sports cars. These jeeps are great for rock crawling and serious off roading...but, if you're not doing those activities, the jeep wrangler is just a mid size SUV with a v6 engine.
Omgggg im so early😳😳 10th
Get a Mazda miata
Me and you gotta ride one day. I'm only 2 hours away
The play in the steering wheeling because it goes off-road
The Wrangler is great for off-road and so so for on-road
Each state and province has rules and laws for the vehicles
Once you change anything on a vehicle that is outside of oem items than the higher the chance vehicles will fail their inspections
If u like the look of the Tesla cybertruck you should get it
Bye wrangler
Jeeps needs that play in the steering. It helps you not flip the truck.
Ha ha you lived in my neighbouring province aka Manitoba Now you live my other neighbouring province
if it drives bad, the lift wasn’t installed right. as for the steering wheel play, it needs a new steering stabilizer and there was a steering box recall to remove all that.
i have a 2018 JL Sahara with a 2” lift and drives better than stock.
