I love how this show at the bare minimum attempts to even fathom the portrayal of people with serious mental illness and disability because it’s very clear that they’ve tried and that is what makes this show so great it’s the representation of that via the characters you empathise with on a molecular level

Being a big fan of steven universe is hard seeing this cause like, its sad. If you think about it all of his friends try to help but just get hurt doing it. ;(
I'm not really surprised to honest. Trust me I was sad and disappointed to my boy "Steven enter a hero falling from grace" arc. But if take a moment to think about it. It was gonna happen one way or another. Because all of Rose's mistakes that lead to bad consequences on almost everyone. The Diamonds constant Galactic domination and plaguing the Earth with death and destruction. Finally Greg and the Crystal gems for not raising Steven properly with education, a personal doctor and some amount of history of the the diamonds, the gem war, the crystal gems and etc.

I think the hug is often misunderstood and taken literally...I don't think the message was that mental illness can be saved by just a group hug rather that kental illness can be fought better with the support of others and this hug was a metaphor for that support helping Steven out of this "corrupted state" which to me as someone with bipolar disorder I always took as a Manic or depressive episode causing anger
