I am a 61 years old male Catholic in the UK. I am not saying that I was ever taught this truth, but now it hit me like a sledgehammer. Pride,ego has been the door for Satan to enslave me. I am so thankful for this faithful teaching/ reminder. Ego wanted perfection, Christ welcomes me in my weakness.

I am in the same boat!! I often act as a pharisee. Beloved Crucified Jesus, I repent of all my sins, have mercy of me for I am sinner and help me at the hour of my death
So badly needed to hear this today. Was feeling that I was wasting my time and nothing I done made any difference. The enemy had me convinced I was useless and that everybody else had got this except me. Thank God for this channel.

Pope St. Gregory the Great wrote about the three phases of temptation:
1) Suggestion
2) Delight
3) Consent
It is only after phase 3 when a temptation becomes a sin.
Thus the love of God is the only weapon against concupiscence. By putting Him first in my life I cast aside everything else that can draw me away from Him, despite human weakness.

Holiness does NOT exclude weakness and Weakness does NOT exclude Holiness!
The strength of God in us, to overcome our weaknesses. We need to hear this. 🕊

THREE OBSTACLES PERFECTION
But there are three great obstacles that prevent him from acquiring this perfection three species of snares that hold him back and keep his soul from freely rising and flying towards God. These are, according to the explanation given by St. John:
1)the concupiscence of the
eyes for riches,
2)the concupiscence of the flesh
for the pleasures of the senses,
and the
3)pride of life for seeking after
honors and for the disorderly
affections of the will.
The three vows remove these three hindrances, and cut all these snares.
1)The vow of poverty destroys the
first,
2)the vow of chastity the second,
and
3)that of obedience the third.
Thus is But there are three great obstacles that prevent him from acquiring this perfection three species of snares that hold him back and keep his soul from freely rising and flying towards God.

Sometimes we have trials outside of holiness. And we do not see them as a step in growing in holiness until after they happen. Lost virtue?

This weakness is not the weakness of sin, but the burden of suffering and misfortune. In as much as terrible back pain can cause me weakness, God, through my weakness could nurture strength and holiness in my children or spouse by my own cross, if I could carry it well. Whereas the weakness of sin only leads to despair and more weakness. Do not misunderstand the words of Paul. Anyone who sins, is a slave to sin, and anyone who serves two masters does so in disorder.
@@sumpinhapenin3070 You're mistaken. The strength in weakness is the increased power of the message, "For even though I was sick, you received me." It is not sin that opens the way to God, but obedience. Sometimes that light is obscured by the light of a common day, but in the darkness of failure it becomes vivid. But it is always there the point is to recognize it at all times and not allow complacency or pride to obscure the way.
@@sumpinhapenin3070 The father goes further than that, but I could see why you would be hesitant to acknowledge it. It is not in God's nature to rebuild what he destroys, and, being made in his image, neither is it in ours. If we rebuild what we destroy, we prove ourselves to be lawbreakers. It is warping scripture to apply temptation to Paul's words, when he was perfected enough to receive, on himself, the wounds of The Lord's passion. This is the thorn in his side.

I understand the point he is making, but if this message were reflected in reality we wouldn't have any saints. You can't be weak and do the things St. Paul did.
I believe we can. Through the strength and grace from God, and not relying on our own though.
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. If our faith and our will is up to the task of praying for the faith and the grace to overcome our natures, then we will make room for the strength of His Holiness to do in us what only He can. This is why Jesus told us to always be in prayer. Even the apostles who were in the very presence of our Lord suffered from insufficiencies among them to follow Christ perfectly. He admonished man throughout his life for this vary reason. Paraphrasing His comment to the women mourning while he carried His cross to the crucifixion; "Don't mourn for me, mourn for yourselves. If they can do this while the wood is green what will happen when it is brown?" Read Luke 23:31 Pray and ask for the grace and faith needed for the strength that overcomes our insufficiencies in will and nature, so you too can accomplish all things through Christ who strengthens you. 💪
