⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ TRIP REPORT - Flying on Denver Air Connection's Fairchild Metroliner 23 from Denver to Cortez

Denver Air Connection is a subsidiary of Key Lime Air providing both charter and scheduled passenger air services. It operates FAR Part 121 regional airline scheduled passenger service and scheduled passenger air charter. Denver Air Connection operates a very interesting fleet of airplanes, including the Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner 23 and Dornier 328JET.
This video shows a flight from Denver, Colorado to Cortez, Colorado, a quick hop over the Rocky Mountains. This flight is provided using a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner 23, one of the rarest passenger airplanes in the United States! Only Denver Air Connection still operates these planes. During the 1980s this type of plane was used between Durango and Denver quite a bit. The landing into Stapleton was a real dive; All we needed was sirens and we would be an honor Stuka!
One time when I was flying with my girl friend the ground crew forgot to unload her baggage which was a back pack with her purse in it. No carry on so it was in the nose of the airplane. She raised absolute hell and the plane actually turned around on the taxi way and came back so she could get her back pack. I was quite impressed by such service and proud that LaPlata County Airport could screw up luggage just like a "real airport".

Took a flight on one of those from CEN to TUS with a brief passport check stop at HMO with Aerolitoral, back in November 1993.. It had all the 19 seats, but we were only like 6 in total. I spent the entire flight switching sides for best views.. It was quite an experience!! I still remember it with lots of details and better that my last week's regular flight...

WOW! Memories! I rode on these when Horizon Airlines flew them in the Pacific Northwest. My regular route was Spokane to Seattle. These are a joy to ride. It looks like I'm gonna have to fly to Cortez soon. Thanks for the memories, DJ!

In June, 2021, I took a similar jaunt with DAC, but drew the EMB-145. I really enjoyed the crews on DAC! On the same frivolous "regional-only" jaunt, I also flew on Southern Airways Express (Cessna Caravan) and Advanced Air (Beech King Air), and, eventually as they cancelled two other flights, Boutique Air (Pilatus PC-12. I do NOT recommend Boutique unless one doesn't absolutely HAVE to go somewhere! Never saw an airline run so poorly, especially one that seems to exist solely on EAS contracts!)
