    Nice vid. I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these so am spending every waking moment on You Tube to see if it right for me. 🙂

      Thanks for your comment. First impressions are very positive and I'd certainly recommend. I'm planning on doing some more trips in the new year so will try take/post some more vids. I am keen to try it out in colder/wetter conditions but have mainly been waiting for a hardtop canopy to go on the back of the pickup as it makes carrying anything awkward without.

    Condensation can only be avoided with lots of good ventilation. Sadly in a small confined space with two people on a cold night the tent will undoubtably drip. 🥶🥶🥶 😫

    Thanks for the video, was great to see closer up.
    Have you tried or thought of having it open over your truck bed? Could make a nice area underneath to utilise also I like the idea of the annex, does the tent already have fixings for it I imagine a C rail would be a good idea to fit it to the bottom of the tent/floor.
    Thanks 👍

      Hi, I now have a canopy over the truck bed although had thought of trying it on there as the canopy does have roof bars. The tent already has a C rail that runs all around the bottom edges so you can easily attach an annex.

    Thanks for this - I'm about to press the button on getting one, I think, as I have a long summer of working at festivals ahead. What did you get for your replacement mattress and is it a standard size?

    • @whats_stewie_up_to5558
      @whats_stewie_up_to5558  Před 2 lety

      Hi, its not a standard size I don't think as the mattress covers the the whole base area inside so is a little under 240x120cm. I purchased some replacement foam from HF Foam in Calne, Wiltshire (hmfoam.co.uk/). They have various options depending on how soft you prefer but it wasn't particularly cheap (£150).

      Hi, I purchased some replacement foam from HF Foam in Calne, Wiltshire (hmfoam.co.uk/). They have various options depending on how soft you prefer but it wasn't particularly cheap (£150). In hindsight it would probably be better & cheaper with a decent mattress topper, only downside with that is the sizes wouldn't match for example a normal double bed

    Awesome honest video. I’m thinking of getting the classic rather than popping the roof on my 2013 T5 camper. Can you tell me what cross bars they are. They might be what I need for my T5 roof rails.

      Hi thanks for you comment. I’m using the Thule wingbars (www.thule.com/en-gb/roof-rack/car-roof-racks/thule-wingbar-evo-_-711xxxb), they seem to handle the weight perfectly. Seeing quite a few people use the tent boxes now as an alternative to the pop up roofs - seems like a good idea and probably significantly cheaper

    A good honest review I have to say it looks a bit of a faff compared to the one that is basically a roof box, but a over 1k is it worth it compared to a normal 2/3 person tent 🤷

    • @whats_stewie_up_to5558
      @whats_stewie_up_to5558  Před 2 lety

      Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. I find putting it up is dead simple and takes literally seconds, putting it away however is definitely a faff (especially when it's wet!). This is were one of the classic or clamshell style roofbox's are much better, but then they're typically even more expensive. Great question ref is it worth it compared to a normal tent. I think if you only stay at regular campsites then possibly not as there is little really to gain - I do find it a bit more comfortable than a tent. Where is does work well is if you're overlanding (or wild camping, if you can call it that) where ground conditions for setting up a tent would be less feasible.

    I'm looking to purchase one of these, but will be using it on a medium size SUV (Volvo XC60) and was wondering if it might be difficult to get the cover back if I'm in my own? I noticed you were climbing into the back of your truck which obviously I wouldn't be able to do, so thinking I might need a second person to pull the cover over the top? I'm planning on using it mostly on my own so this is a bit of a concern.

      Since doing the video I now have a canopy on the back and I do find putting the cover on can be a bit of a faff, especially when it’s wet or raining, but far from impossible. Doesn’t help that I’m not the tallest (5’8”)! I now tend to stand on the tyres to get the cover on or use a step which attaches to the cars door latch which I find helps a lot (www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09C5FNPN2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GF4R2C422JC1X3H29JQK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

    Thanks for the video. Do you think this tent box lite would fit above the back pick up area of the vehicle if you had some rails on the back?

    • @whats_stewie_up_to5558
      @whats_stewie_up_to5558  Před 2 lety +1

      yes it should do, the tentbox folds down to 140 x 120cm (hinged on the shorter edge so when folded out is 140 x 240) so should fit above most pick up areas provided you don't have any roll/sport bars fitted.

    Hi great video.
    What's the security like with regards leaving it on the roof. Could it be easily stolen? 🤔

    • @whats_stewie_up_to5558
      @whats_stewie_up_to5558  Před rokem +1

      Hi, with the standard fittings the sad reality is that yes it could be easily stolen - have heard on some of the facebook groups who have unfortunately had this happen. Tentbox do sell some locking nuts which can help, however still wouldn't stop someone physically cutting through the bolts. I've also seen that Thule sell a better looking fixing system that looks more secure - I'm not 100% sure if it'll fit with the tentbox but I'm considering getting a set to try
