    I have the Argon Mk2s, and I love them as much as I love my AKG K240DFs.
    Something about how they sound feels right. The bass, while being really impactful, has it's own space and is SO well separated from the other frequencies. It has like, a Sony Z7 bass but everything is so well separated.
    They're almost like the "evil counterpart" to the HD800; REALLY separated mids just like the HD800, but with the emphasis on the Bass instead of the Treble.

    I purchased these and they're just a joy to listen to. I've tried many high end headphones(lcds, final audio, HD800S, Stax etc) and those are detailed and analytical. These headphones however, just put a smile on my face. The sound stage and bass are just phenomenal. The sound signature is lush and warm in a comforting way. I've tried A B testing with other planars and although these may be the slightest bit less detailed, they surely are so much more enjoyable to listen to.

  • @tuftman6092
    @tuftman6092 Před 5 lety

    verticality IRL is normally achieved because your ears block and interact with incoming sound in different ways depending on what direction they come from. My guess as to how the headphones are simulating verticality is that they simulate the effect of having ears by modifying the response curve so that it produces sound that sounds like it's passed through ears already.

    Hey Josh. I thnk i found the best way to describe what you mean by verticality as I have just received my argons. Simply if you split the planar driver into thirds, the bottom third delivers bass, middle delivers mids and the top third delivers highs. I know this sounds really stupid but this is how my ears hear them and I think its the best way to describe the verticality.

      Daxtarious Yes, the iFi has even more power than the XD05+, so definitely go for it if you can afford it. I currently own the 05+ and used to own the iFi. The iFi was pretty revolutionary when it first came out, and I think it may still top all other portable solutions as far as pure power output is concerned, but as you noted it is extra pricey and the XD05+ does everything the iFi does without compromising on anything and it has more updated interface (usb C), so I can’t recommend the iFi. Personally, to my ears, the XD05+ simply sounds better. The iFi is known for its treble harshness which I can’t stand so that’s why I no longer have it. That won’t be a problem for the Argons of course and may indeed benefit, but just sayin. Good luck. You can’t go wrong either way.

      Whats your opinion about Emotiva A-100? Is it enough to drive MK3 properly? Thanks! I looking for an answer for this question forever. I hope, you can help me.

    • @mensrea1251
      @mensrea1251 Před 4 lety

      Combo John The A100 with jumpers off drive more power than any headphone amp I know of, so yeah they will power this. FYI Argons scale incredibly well, better than any headphone I have tried, so they need and can take a lot of power.

    • @mensrea1251
      @mensrea1251 Před 4 lety

      A100 ideally to get the absolute best out of these for almost all listening scenarios (“almost” because the A100s are originally speaker amps so have a noticeable noise floor. The darker signature of the Argons help cover it up but it’s there, so wouldn’t recommend for super quiet tracks where quiet subtlety required). The XD05+ will do as well. I use both depending. Strangely I tend not to pair Argons with AAA 789, not sure why...

      Erkmen Önen actually, yes. I have brainwavz on. I will make a more in-depth video on this actually, at some point. But, less treble, more bass, and slightly less soundstage. More details later.

      @@Osprey1994 everyone I've talked to in one of the audio discords I'm in says amp is helpful but not a neccesity. • @mensrea1251

      Ryan Matthew No. Of all headphones, these need amping the most. Like as much power as you can. The XD05+ minimum, but Emotiva A100 with jumpers off, that much power. Argons scale better than any headphone I’ve tried.

    Hey josh how do you think these would pair with a darkvoice? Looking for a good pair of headphones that aren’t Senns at this price range ( I own a pair of senns and the clamp force is a bit much for me). I just snagged a darkvoice on Massdrop so that’d be my only amp at the moment, also have a Modi Multibit. Thanks

    • @JoshuaValour
      @JoshuaValour  Před 6 lety +1

      IMO darkvoice doesn't have enough power for these guys. :/ They require a LOT Darkvoice is a great little tube amp, but, simply doesn't output enough power. I would also avoid planar on tubes. They generally do better with solid state amps.
      I recommend M1060 (even though it is a planar. they do respond well to tubes oddly enough - sorry for the contradiction). Save a bit of money as they just dropped in price ($237) and are easy to drive, so the dark voice is plenty. Here is a link if you want to check them out - amzn.to/2MFgSNC
      If you want a dynamic that can really take well to tubes - I assume you want a dark sound since you went with tubes - Look at Nighthawks - amzn.to/2C99be1
      Nighthawks are actually like mini Argons, oddly enough.
