In this video I go over a couple of great $15 camping chairs from Walmart, of all places. These chairs are small enough that you'll never need to take them out of your car. I also go over a couple of modifications I've made to my chair.

I was homeless for two years. I walked to Walmart. I used recycling and purchased Ozark tent, chars, lights. And a few other odds and ends. I lived 24/7 outside for two years straight. They lasted until I found a job and a home. These over price items from other companies is just tgat " over priced". And I still like Camping and use them in the mountains.
@1234 it wasn't cool, it was hard, cold in the winter, hot in the summer. Lots of stories, but kept my head up. I now have a masters degree, ya I went college why I was homeless too. Own my own home and recently purchased a 2019 jeep rubicon loaded. So ty
@@ati573 Wow - congratulations - you are one tough cookie & have my utmost respect for your perseverance & hard work!
@@ati573 Awesome result from a terrible situation. You never gave up.
Exactly A!
Dude you should think About writing a book about your experience. I would read it.
Sewing the strap for the carabiner clip was brilliant!
The side bag with snaps is a great modification. Before I put the last corner of the chair material on, I slip the loop on the carry bag over the metal rod. That way I won't lose the carry bag and it saves carrying a carabiner. Great video.
We bought a couple of these to keep in the car for going to grandkids sports events. The last event was a music recital in the park with soft ground. The chair leg sunk in and my husband did a perfect slow roll backwards somersault. The family got a big laugh at his expense, but it is a handy chair on solid ground.
I have this chair! It's the same design as many other except the rods are made of steal not aluminum. I like it. Thanks.
when I first started watching you you talked about this chair and I went to Walmart to get one. You are right it is a GREAT chair. Once again Thank you for all your suggestions.
Great! I'm glad you like it. And I just want more people to keep buying them so they keep getting made. Thanks Suzette.
Thanks for the recommendation on the chair! I picked one up. I like it better than similar ones that are usually $50+ at other stores.
So glade to see you doing better I am trying to catch up on all your videos
Thanks for the tip Tristen. Hope your hip is getting better. A long process of healing but so worth it. I had a total hip replacement five years ago. Not good as new but much much better. Happy and Healing days ahead until you can get back on the trails.
I had a similar experience with my other hip, the one that got operated on last year. It's not as good as new, but it's better than it was before the surgery. I'll take whatever improvement I can get. Thanks Joyce!
What a perfect little chair, I agree I keep mine in my car all the time so I’m never stuck without one. Comfort is very important to me. I’m going to have to get a little chair like this because mine are the long big kind that fold accordion style, but they’re heavy for my back. Thanks for sharing… Happy trails💜
As you said, the great thing about this one is that it is so small. You can keep it in the car and not have to really worry about it taking up space. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for a super straight to the point and clear review, and the great helpful ideas about modifications. Love to see a good video like this!
Super comfortable, portable, Great design, Great video, of course.
Thanks man! I just bought 1 a couple months back except it was $25 but I spent 2 weeks staring at it appreciate the D.I.Y. portion, much love.
thanks for the video. i’ve been looking for a cheap, lightweight, and comfortable chair to take when i go backpack camping and this is basically exactly what i was looking for. and for $15 for a broke college kid getting into backpacking? can’t beat it.
That's a great price! I bought the Helinox Sunset Chair a few years ago, albeit expensive, it has held up very well. I've been know to fall asleep in the chair because it's so comfortable. Thanks for the review!
As far as I know, Helinox was the first company to come out with (or at least popularize) this style of chair. Good to know that you like yours and it works well for you. Thanks Alex!
Thanks for the recommendation, Tristan. I like the idea of a removable side pocket. We hope you're resting and healing well☺
Thanks tsuki! Recover is going well. Yesterday I drove for the first time since surgery, and it went well. I'll have crutches and the hip brace for the next 10 days, and then I'll be able to walk again. So far, so good.
i have 3 of the chairs for the kids when we go camping. I just place the bag on 1 of the poles before putting the material on the frame.
I totally agree with you. You get what you pay for and Walmart don't usually have the best stuff camping wise . However some things are very dicent quality. The chair I will definitely be getting. Thanks for the tip .
That would be handy to have in the car for any unexpected situations. Great review. Thanks for sharing this with us. Davin
Yep, exactly. It's a great chair. Thanks Davin!
Thanks for the review I bought one after it is comfortable
I've lost track of how many of those big bulky camp chairs I've donated or given away. I got this one last year after seeing it in one of your previous videos. It's working out great, quite comfortable and I love that it's so compact. Hope your recovery is going well!
That's great to hear! I'm the same way. I had a super comfy but enormous camp chair before this one, and it was just unwieldy to travel with. This one is a much better fit for me. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Agreed. Its a great chair/deal! I know you said you dont advocate buying Wal-mart gear, yet your cooler, awning, chair all seem to be hits, not misses.
My cooler actually wasn't from Walmart. I got it through HomeDepot.com, of all places. And I think that little bits of camping gear from Walmart are fine, but I'd never get mission-critical camping gear (e.g., a tent) from there. Thanks for watching, Brian!
Thanks for the review, Tristan. Appreciate it. I’ll ck my local Walmart and see if they’re available.
Hope your healing is going well. Sending you best wishes.
Thanks Cyn! Yep, the healing process is going well so far 👍
Unbelievable! I was just looking at this exact chair at Walmart last night and now I see it today in this video! I just downsized from a 1995 Ford extended cargo van to a brand new 2019 KIA Soul. So I have far less space now and have been shopping for affordable, compact camping gear. I plan to go on extended camping trips and space will now be of the utmost importance. BTW, nice mods to the chair. Thanks for the review!
Great value! Im getting a couple this evening. Thanks
You won't regret it. It's a great little chair. Thanks Radnally.
Thank you for the info. Tristan. Always need a good chair for a practical price. Hope you're healing well.
Thanks Deanna! Yep, the healing is going well so far. I'll be on crutches for another week or so, and then it's careful hobbling and physical therapy after that.
Thanks for displaying the chair it’s back in stock at Walmart but it’s now 19$ but still a bargain!
Lol...I just bought one of these a week or so ago. We had noticed your chair in the videos so I looked it up on your gear list. I used it this past weekend camping in the UP of MI. It worked just great, especially since I'm not quite 5'1" and I find the standard chairs you mentioned to be quite uncomfortable. I just folded the bag and used the velcro strap to hold it on the crossbar underneath. Using your idea I'll probably use a carabiner to hang it from the back, too.
I'm glad you got one and that you like it! I just can't get over how good of a deal it is. And it's a good idea to use the velcro to stick it on! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for watching, Lynne.
I have the over $100 under 1 lb. chair that I use only for back packing but I am delighted to know the similar chair, although heavier, makes it a no brainer to own if space is limited in suv rving. Nice find! Getting a couple myself. Thanks!
The name-brand ones are sweet and definitely have their place, but it's hard to go wrong for $15 as long as you accept its limitations (i.e., weight). Thanks Haydee. Happy travels.
I have the same chair (in blue) and have also been using it for over a year (about 1 1/2 year actually), I throw it in the box on the motorcycle and keep it with me (along with a WalMart day-use hammock and misc junk) just in case I get off work early and wanna go ride in the woods somewhere, LOL! It's served me well so far :D
I have a little portable hammock too and love that thing. There's nothing like a relaxing afternoon hang session!
This is divine intervention! I spent an hour looking at these chairs & similar ones on Ebay yesterday! and then voila...your youtube video came to me today. Thank you so much for the review. Our Kmarts in Australia do not stock this. Thanks to you I am now going to order one from Ebay. I am tossing up whether to order the higher back one that has the head rest.
I think you should be getting paid to do reviews.
Perfect timing! And yes, I think you'd be happy with any char that's a similar design. I just like this particular one because it was so surprisingly cheap. Let me know what you end up getting and how you like it. Thanks Carol.
I just visited my local WalMart and they had 8 of them for $19.97. I got one and find it comfortable. The steel legs bump the weight to 3.6 pounds or almost 4 times the weight of the $60 REI version but it stows easy in the Rover and I’ll not be carrying it far. By comparison, we have some of the old style but armless chairs and it weighs about the same as they do, but stows in half the room.
Thanks for sharing this. Will get one to try out.
Thanks Jonathan, I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching.
終於又能看到你做節目,為你點赞。👍
Bought two of the chairs today but my husband didn’t care for his. He’s had hip and neck surgeries and didn’t think it was comfortable......hope your recent surgery doesn’t result in the same situation! I loved mine and will be keeping it in our RV. Heal quickly!
Hi Bette. That makes sense. But I'm glad it worked out well for you at least. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Putting it back in the pouch is a bit tough, but we love our chairs! Thanks.
Glad you like them!
Just ordered the chair based on this review, so you're in the hot seat. lol Thanks for the review.
You'll like it! We still use both of ours.
Another way to store the bag is to slip the bag handle over one of the back bars before hooking on the seat. The bag is "trapped" by the seat and can't get lost. Thanks for the review.
Detailed description! Thanks
Great review thank you! This couldn't have come at a better time, I have been looking for a small chair for my car camping setup.
I don't know if any of the Ogden-area ones have it in stock still, but if you can find it, it's awesome. If not, the Amazon ones look good too.
SUV RVing I’ll find out today I’ll try Riverdale. Might be worth the extra money for the other ones like you said. Appreciate you Tristan hope all is well.
Couldn't find one there. I ended up using your link but getting a $40 on Amazon. I will let you know how it goes..
👍
Thread the storage bag loop over one of the legs during setup assembly, oua la.....bag is stored.
oua la = voilà? classic! :)
Ozark Trail has been getting good reviews on affordable equipment. I thought maybe they are part of OZ tent. Exactly. There is something about cheap equipment that’s not expensive to replace weather lost , stolen or damaged.
I don't think they're affiliated with Oztent at all. And I don't think I'd buy really essential camping gear (i.e., a tent) from Walmart or a similar place, but for less important stuff like this chair, I have no problem with trying it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
thanks for great review
I agree about Walmart's quality for camping gear, but its practical and cheap and products from there usually last me a lot longer than I expect so I'm happy with my purchases there. I'll have to check out that cute little chair you have.
I don't think I'd get mission-critical camping gear there (i.e., a tent), but for the smaller accessories and stuff, I think it's fine. Thanks Carolena!
You can caribiner the bag on the new one to one of the top pull loops. No mod necessary. The bag’s a great mod though.
Good point, Carlos! Thanks for watching.
Thanks!
In stock as of Jun 26th, 2020 for about $19.50. I ordered 2.
Could you do a camping review of the Fenik Yuma 60L cooler?
Thanks for Chairing
You can also just loop the bag over one of the back rest poles before stretching the fabric over.
To store the bag use the Velcro strap under the chair to hold the bag.
you can put the bag over the legs before putting on the seat!
easier to do the bottoms first then tops, the straps on the bag go on the front legs to hold it so you have a little storage pocket between your legs
Looks comfy
It really is. It's a great chair. Thanks Hobbs.
you should sow a patch to the ripping piece if the rest of the chair is okay. use some canvas or cut a piece of a tie down strap.
Still available at Walmart for $20 - bought one yesterday. It's great for the money - toss the bag in the car and go.
An easy mod is to purchase trekking pole feet to slip on this chair in place of the plastic feet that come on it. This will prevent it from sinking into soft ground when sitting on it.
Walmart camping gear section is on par with most any sporting good retailer. Better than most.
great vid thanks
Thanks for watching.
Store the bag under the chair with the Velcro strip
I have one of the expensive ones and a larger REI (not as big as the old style camping chair, but bigger than the Helinox and Ozark chair). I don't find the Helinox that comfortable. I am a good deal older, so maybe it's that, but the back doesn't feel that it is high enough, so long time in the chair is too much. Also if you had athritis in legs/hips, etc it would be hard to get into it. I do not have this trouble. I use it out sketching and so on, and would take it traveling in a suitcase as it only weighs 1.1 pounds! But if you don't need it for travel or backpacking, the weight is not that important.
The chair isn't for everyone, but with so many Walmarts around, the great thing is that people can just go there, set the chair up, and see if they like it before they buy. I can see how the Helinox-style chairs wouldn't be comfortable for everyone, but I really enjoy mine (and this is indeed coming from someone with bad hips!). Thanks as always for watching and commenting.
What a nicenchair
It is now 19.64. It was 21.26 after tax. Just a few days ago it was 14.46. Actually I looked at it several times last week and it was 14.46 every time I looked at it and then today......19.64.Just my luck! I knew I should have bought it then!
Hmm, that stinks! But at least it's still in stock. I don't think any of the stores around here carry them anymore.
I will look for a similar chair. I have a three legged seat from Ikea which is lightweight, but is similar to sitting on a bike seat. I also have a butterfly chair from Bed bath and beyond which is too heavy and leans back too far.I carry both in my SUV, but neither is very comfortable, but okay in a pinch.
I think I will keep that IKEA seat around forever, since I got it at the discount area for about four dollars and I can take it everywhere. No backrest, though. I don't need a chair with cupholder or footrest, but it would be nice to have a sturdy chair take to an outdoor concert or campfire party.
I think you'd like it. It hits a nice sweet spot of portability and comfort. Thanks for watching and commenting, Mary.
Nice review. It looks closer to the ground than the regular camping chair. The other evening when I was sitting around my campfire in a can (Solo Stove Campfire) that it’s have been nice to be closer to the ground, i.e, closer to the fire.
That's a good point. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't be good for people with limited mobility. I guess it's a tad harder to get in and out of because it's closer to the ground.
SUV RVing maybe you could invent a lightweight powered lift camping chair....
I think you might be on to something!
SUV RVing , oh btw the chairs are still available at Walmart. I picked one up just now since I had to go there for some necessities.
Nice! Good to know. They're all still gone in my area.
Thanks.
Take the bag and Velcro to middle beam under seat no mods Velcro already there have 2 of them tall for me....
I’ve seen these and wondered if they were any good because the price was sooooo cheap. Heading to Walmart today! Thanks.
Great! I think you'll like it. Thanks Cathy.
I wish you would do a comparison between this and the REI one. Especially after having your hip done!
I don't have an REI one. Sorry!
The rei chair
Is lighter for sure. Not really an issue unless u are backpacking and carrying it a long distance
Do you think most of the weight comes from the heavy--duty materials? As a thread-injector myself, I was thinking about buying the chair and replacing the material with something lighter.
I have a chair like this - nifty design. BUT...you've got to use it on level, firm ground. I was thinking that when I'm not camping, I could start up lawn aerating service - get paid to sit, with my chair, on someone's lawn, for a few hours.
Yep, good point!
Now, the price is $20 at WalMart.
I've seen one that has a headrest, but those are expensive!
thanks
Thanks for watching, Craig.
Have 2 lose 50 lbs more to get below the 250 lbs wt capacity. Im at 250 now. Icould use the chair due to its compactness. Thxs 4 sharing.
I think you'd like it. It's a handy little chair to have around. Thanks Vel.
no you dont better chair better value and 300lb capacity Trekology YIZI
In my area there is only one left. Bummer tho because they won't mail it, it's in-store pickup only...or that last one would have been mine lol. I have a few, different types, similar camping types even smaller, and I always keep one in the car as well. Thanks!
Hmm, that's too bad. But yeah, little camp chairs are great! Really handy to have around at all times. Thanks for watching and commenting, Tony.
Tristan, I'm not here that much but I do have a handful of folks I watch on a regular. Just saw you had surgery!? Well, you are doing great bro! Safe travels and I'm looking forward to seeing new videos with you and your lady! Have Fun :)
Yo Trist, my only suggestion is that when you put your foot next to the chair package-you should state your shoe size.
Those are my hiking shoes, and they're size 11.
SUV RVing 👍🏾👍🏾
Have you tried clamping an umbrella on it for shade?
Any way to find leg stub replacement candy be lost in the soil that is slightly wet
I 2nd this. I usually pay attention, but someone borrowed it and lost one of the leg caps. I ordered these 2, but haven't received yet, but it'll be nice to know if there's an oem replacement

Yeah they're now $25, as of this posting, think I will still buy one, for a weekend trek.
Have had good luck with Walmart products. I don't expect them to last like things made in pre China.
I agree, I don't expect them to last for the rest of my life, but for $15 I have no complaints. Thanks RBF.
I recall your video about adapting the folding stool to use as a privy. In hindsight, would this chair also work as well or perhaps better?
I actually did make a version with this chair, but the stool is way better
@@SUVRVing Thanks for that. I did make a version of the stool model after watching your video on that one. As the fabric on the one I sourced was Xpac material, I left it alone and turned it upside down and riveted a 1" webbing matrix similar to what you did on one of your previous prototypes.
What’s the weight on each chair? Walmart says “under 2Lbs”
seriously. this is one of the most important pieces of info I am looking to find in a real review of this chair.
Where can I get those snaps at? Any help would be appreciated.
Any store that carries a good stock of sewing stuff will usually also have those snaps. Try Micheals.
🌲🌝☘️
Lol Tristan, it’s bc of your wonderful recommendation of the chair is why they’re out...people rushed out to buy themselves one 😂🤣lol jk ofc...hope you’re feeling better buddy!! Tfs
Lol it's not my fault! Thanks for watching, Nikki.
Would this chair work at the beach? Or would the little legs dig into the sand too much?
Thanks so much for your review!
The legs do dig into the sand. I’ve seen good ways to prevent this

Make this
Walmart.ca shows C$9.97 but not available online and in store. :(
What's the weight limi
250 lb
Yes, I just got contact from a friend Dave, don't know what happened, but my two comments disappeared today, so I deleted the rest. I try not to be mean, offensive, absurd, rude, Etc, glad you weren't angry or dismayed with me👍😊, back on track now😊. I do love you're channel and content,I prayed for you and your wife after this happened this morning, and prayed for myself and right attitude also. Glad we are square now👍 it's all fine with me, if fine with you Friend? Dave Deatherage. Have a good day! Peaceful!😃
I swear I didn't touch your comments. I had no reason to delete them! Yep, we're all good now :) Thanks Dave! Stay tuned for tomorrow's video. It's a good one :)
@@SUVRVing thanks friend!,glad you're doing well!, yes tuned in fir you're next video👍😊please keep up your filming and Narration , you're great at that. Great day to you.
Is the chair fat people friendly? I'm a big guy and close to 300 pounds and wondering if I should pick one up.
They are $26 now in 2022
I’ve had mine for about a year, the only problem I have with it is I wish the feet on the tubes were a little bigger. I’ve had problems with them sinking into the soft soil. Gotta watch where I set it. Maybe that’s an Ohio problem not a desert problem.
I've experienced some minor sinking in sandy ground but nothing worse than that. I could see it being an issue in very soft ground, like you said. Thanks for watching.
Jeez $15 that's a steal just bought one today for $24 plus tax
Hi Tristan, this thing still holding up? Found a better one yet?
Still use it all the time. Works great 👍
@@SUVRVing I'll try one. My gear cloges up cargo area. Time to tighten up.
Limit?
I will think it's 250. I'm 210ish and it holds my fine. I sink in the dirt, hahaha, but the chair holds up.
Looks good....but 25 bucks now!
The blue chair has delaminated on me, shedding that rubberized coating everywhere
Don't have a Walmart's on UK .
"Well, Walmart owns a chain of stores in the UK called ASDA. ASDA is Britain's second largest supermarket, and while it started as its own brand back in 1965, the International Walmart Corporation acquired it in 1999. So it's the closest thing you're going to get to Walmart without actually visiting one!Apr 15, 2018"
They're both a blessing and a curse. But if you can't find a similar chair near you, I'm sure ones like the ones I shared in the video description are available on amazon.co.uk. Thanks for watching.
What can I say about this

Good News!
You can use the backpacking chair under Ozark Trail outside of tent or inside of tent. For example! I just sit my backpacking chair (black/blue) under Ozark Trail in 8 by 8 tent during rain. I felt relax. Good Deal!
You get it. You will know. Okay! Thanks for your time. Have a blessed day!
