I apologize that I've just begun to look at the comments on my youtube posts. There are about 600,000 thousand buffalo in Canada and America today. There were about 50 million in the mid 1800's and then only about 450 left by 1890, it's a long sad, beautiful, and hopeful story. Kind of the best and the worst, like all of history... :)

Then you meet a man like Leo and you are deeply impressed by his story and life and how he sorted it all out for himself to become happy. And he is so natural and convincing because it's all him and no learned speech. We really enjoyed that time at his Ranch and are listening to his music while driving thru the Canadian Rockies. Thank you Eileen!! I would love to be able to be with the horses the way I am able to be with the buffalo, but I can't! I've had horses and I love them so much, but they are so different than buffalo!! I don't know why, but I'm not very good with horses. I think I'm a little impatient... and buffalo, are so stoic!! and kind of ancient, they aren't afraid of things, especially the dominant bull, although, they really don't like grizzly bears!!!! Anyway, thank you! for such a kind message. I hardly ever look at comments on youtube, and just decided to today, I hope you are whispering to horses!!!! My eyes are kind of shiny too! I apologize that I've just begun to look at the comments on my youtube posts. They really are happy here. They can go through adn over my fences in a second. The reason they don't is that dont want to. They feel safe here, they live their life here together as a herd, the young bulls go for meat. I do that all myself here on the ranch, it happens with no fear. If I don't take the bulls, my dominant bull Chester, will kill them. He has killed 3 in ten years. I live with it, even though that happens sometimes, they want to live together. God bless you, and thanks!!! :)

Hi Mylene, Lot's of people ask me about this. The latin name is 'bison, bison' for the plains bison, and bison Athabasca, for the wood bison. My original bull was a wild bull from Parks Canada and a cross between the two. The common name is North American buffalo, wood buffalo and plains buffalo. It's confusing for people because they are a different species than a cape buffalo from Africa or a water buffalo from Asia, but both names are correct. We call many plants and animals by their common names, for example dog and cat or dandelion and rose. Thanks for your comment! :)
