Miles changed my life. When I was 16 and still at school, I was a budding Trumpet player and at that time had been the usual classical repertoire (this is back in the 80’s) and had discovered Satchmo as my first taste of Jazz.
One day I wandered into a record shop (remember them?) and there was an LP of My Funny Valentine recorded live in 1964 with the great quintet. I had no idea who he was and just bought it as I’d heard of the title song. Little did I know what was in store for me when I got it home. I didn’t understand anything they were playing but couldn’t get it out of my head.
For the last 40 years I’ve consumed, studied, copied, interpreted and basically listened to everything Miles ever recorded and in my limited Trumpet playing career (gave up professionally many years ago) was called ‘Little Miles’ many times. Met my wife on the road too.
I now just play part-time in big bands and combos but without that chance visit to the record store, my Trumpet playing and life would have been very different and his influence on my playing has been profound.
The sounds of miles Davis is absolutely timeless, iconic! ❤️💕
Couldn't agree more!
Amazing video, but would be even better if the background music wasn't so loud. But amazing video. Thank you and keep up the good work!
The background music is out of place
I'll do better next time, thanks for the feedback
It is definitely shit.
Very educational information love it!
Love it!
Thanks for this. It's hard to distill one person into 12:41, but you did a nice job. It's always a balance between too-long and not-enough-information.
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you so much for this video🙏
My pleasure 😊
This was interesting. You should do a longer video; maybe like an hour. It was a good video, but I would have enjoyed more indepth details.
Do Freddie Hubbard next !!!
stay tuned my friend
What’s with the smooth jazz going while talking about Miles?
Straightforward info, though. Thx!

@richiebeirach3671 ...Your list is also incomplete.
Genius!
Clifford Brown!!!
The GrEaTeSt!!!!!!!
Love the videos, but why the smooth vanilla jazz underneath? Is it a matter of licensing costs? Whereby using the music of the musicians being discussed would be prohibitive?
The answer to your question is yes and yes plus I'm an historian that happens to love jazz
Subscribed, and there's nothing you can do about it!
the background music during the narration was annoying as hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I'll do better next time
Too noisy bgm
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback, let me know what you think about the Dexter Gordon video
Well that is too bad. I have nothing but complete disrespect for drug abusers. Oh well. He's dead, I am not.
Well he did drugs because he had sickle cell to dull the pain of the disease it wasn’t any treatment for sickle cell back in those days
