Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on CZcams, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on CZcams. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on CZcams, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Some of the best music of the 70's.
As an Allman fanatic, I can tell you this. This is literally the very 1st song Gregg Allman wrote, and the one he is MOST PROUD OF, so much so, that the lyrics are on his headstone.
Just about every little girl born in the 70s named Melissa or Jessica have the Allman Brothers to thank for it!
Back in 1984, my buds and I went to see Hot Tuna, and our tickets said "featuring BHLT." None of us knew (or cared) who they were, we were there for Jorma and Jack.
Wellll, as it turns out, the B was Dickie Betts, the H was Warren Haynes, the L was Chuck Leavell and the T was Butch Trucks. Yeah, the opening act was basically the freakin' Allman Bros.!!! Needless to say they blew the joint up, played for almost an hour and a half, and came back for THREE encores....and they were the warm-up band! One of my best concert experiences ever.
Awesome!
I named my daughter, Melissa, because of this song
This song always sounds like a summer day…..
As a side note.... this song is my most favorite song of all, and I named my youngest daughter after it.
I think the requester solved the age-old dilemma. React to the studio AND a live version! Well done and amazing song
I never caught a vibe that this was about a band on the road, touring.
I always felt this was about a solo cat caught up in a gypsy lifestyle, who couldn't let go of his tie to Melissa.
I love Greg Allman's vocals. Never a note out of place, pitch-perfect.
If he sings a Blues note (quarter tone), it's intentional. No need for auto-tune.
RIP, Greg Allman.
"The gypsy flies from coast to coast, Knowing many, loving none, Bearing sorrow, having fun.” The verse paints a picture of a traveler who is constantly on the move, and Gregg's voice conveys the weary traveler and the sorrow so well. You should give a few more songs off
Brother and Sister a listen to. Gregg's voice is so sweet on that album.
He’s singing about a groupie! Sorry to bust your bubble. 🤷🏻♂️

I will listen to the Brothers until the day I die. 🥁☘☮
An amazing song that I’ve loved since first hearing it when it was first released. The live version was great to hear Greg singing and the four guitarist and was an amazing treat.
The other guitarist is the now well known Warren Haynes. Haynes has played pretty regularly with members of the Allman Brothers and members of the Grateful Dead for a long time now. He also formed a band called Government Mule who are excellent.
I was a young teenager when I first heard this song....but just now listening to it again, it never sounded this good.
On stage there with Dickey is Waaren Haynes. When he and Derek Trucks were on the Allmans together that might have been at their best since the Duane days.
One of my favorites of all time. You are in the top tier of reactors, and also provide educational value. I learn about songs I have heard for 50 years. Somewhere in my stored away vinyl is a copy of the Allman Joys version. I don't think it's especially rare.
My Song. ❤❤❤❤
Ohhhh I've been listening to and living this song for 😊40 years, but I've never heard it so beautiful as this live version. OMGoodness. Thank you Shawn and hope you all have a wonderful day.
The Allman bros named the first album after Duane's death EAT A PEACH. Duane was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a peach truck. That's some 70s dark humor for you
😥 This beautiful song will always remind me of my brother, Reed, who was a talented tattoo artist way back in the 1970's. He was ~ "The gypsy flies from coast to coast, Knowing many, loving none, Bearing sorrow, having fun.” man in this song. R.I.P. Reed ~ Thanks for reacting to this ~ ❤
I heard Greg was in a grocery store and heard a lady yelling for Melissa… damn
First heard them during my tour in Vietnam in 1971. Great Blues Band. Greg (Keyboard and vocals) and Duane Allman (guitarist) were both top shelf musicians.
Welcome Home, Brother.
Melissa was the first song Gregg ever wrote, when he was just 17 years old, long before the Allman Brothers Band was formed. The things the band went through were the loss of guitarist Duane Allman (age 24) due to a motorcycle accident on Oct 29, 1971 in my hometown of Macon, Ga, and then the loss of their bass player Berry Oakley. Berry (also age 24) died in a motorcycle accident on Nov 11, 1972 almost exactly a year after Duane and just a few blocks away from where Duane was killed. Both of them are buried side by side in Macon’s Rose Hill cemetery. Gregg Allman was buried there as well when he passed May 27, 2017 at age 69.
Always have loved the Allman Brithers was lucky to see them in concert with the Dead
Duane Allman (founding member with his brother Gregg Allman) was also in Derek and the Dominoes with Eric Clapton. Excellent guitarist.
SUCH a sweet tune. Loved it from the first listen. Acoustic heaven.
Allman Bros Band...what a group. Loved their sound. Fantastic live I feel...keep it up Shawn 🎤🎶👍
First song Gregg Allman ever wrote. “He had struggled to create any songs with substance, and "Melissa" was among the first that survived after nearly 300 attempts. but he stumbled on the name of the love interest. The song's namesake was almost settled as Delilah before Melissa came to Allman at a grocery store: “It was my turn to get the coffee and juice for everyone, and I went to this 24-hour grocery store, one of the few in town. There were two people at the cash registers, but only one other customer besides myself. She was an older Spanish lady, wearing the colorful shawls, with her hair all stacked up on her head. And she had what seemed to be her granddaughter with her, who was at the age when kids discover they have legs that will run. She was jumping and dancing; she looked like a little puppet. I went around getting my stuff, and at one point she was the next aisle over, and I heard her little feet run all the way down the aisle. And the woman said, "No, wait, Melissa. Come back-don’t run away, Melissa!" I went, "Sweet Melissa." I could've gone over there and kissed that woman. As a matter of fact, we came down and met each other at the end of the aisle, and I looked at her and said, "Thank you so much." She probably went straight home and said, "I met a crazy man at the fucking grocery." -as told in his memoir, My Cross to Bear. - Wiki
Great tune. The acoustic version is just perfect.
one of the ALLMAN'S best. never fails to bring a tear to my eye as i was 19 in '72 when it came out. had just seen them at madison sq. garden and it just takes me back to a simpler time of innocence
Blue Sky is amazing. This one is also fantastic!Though the live version is very good nothing beats the original recording!Keep reacting to This legendary and amazingly great live band!
Great great song
This is my fav Allman Brothers song, Melissa. Great song and lyrics. For me live is always better.
Dickey and the GREAT Warren Haynes.
Great band
Shawn, also check out Dreams, Whipping Post, Stormy Monday and In The Memory of Elizabeth Reed. I saw them 5 times and they were incredible. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to see the original band before Duane and Berry died. Take care.
Gregg allman had this song but not a name for it yet ..one day when he was food shopping he saw a little girl running down the aisle with a woman chasing after her yelling “Melissa…Melissa” ..
I have loved this song for decades but have never heard this live version before. Amazing.
Warren Haynes has been their All purpose Guitarist for a Long,Long time.
He plays Duane's Slide parts at least when Derek Truck's isn't around.
A virtuoso, check Government Mule.
❤️❤️❤️
One of my favorite guitarists. The great Warren Haynes. Please, more Warren Haynes or Gov’t Mule. ✌🏼😎
This is Sunday afternoon easy listening music.
Try the Allman Brothers' Soulshine - the album version!
Seen these guys a number of times in concert. So glad to watch you enjoy the classics.
The song isn’t “Sweet” Melissa, it’s just Melissa. I believe someone just titled it that way on a video ✌️
They lost Duane and Berry Oakley the bass player within a year of each other, both in motorcycle accidents. The band would carry on and make some great music but the original band was like no other.
There is so much history with this band! Duane Allman was killed in an motorcycle accident on 10/29/1971 in Macon Georgia. Then, on 11/1/1972, Berry Oakley, their bass player was killed in another motorcycle accident, about 1 mile from where Duane died. Additional turmoil was when the band fired Dickie Betts in 2000. The band was tired of him coming late to practices, was drunk a lot, and he was playing too loud. He had his amp turned up so high that other band members could not hear from what they were playing. Check out several books about the Allman Brothers. They tell you a lot about their history. Good analysis.
One of the GIANTS!❤️
There's a pretty great version of this with Gregg and Jackson Browne 🎶🎵
I have always had a crush on Gregg. I know he had "issues" back in the day but Cher was a dufus 😉💚
Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "Whipping Post", "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Statesboro Blues", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man", "One Way Out" etc. One of my favorites is their instrumental "Jessica" which was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter.
Love this so much ❤
First song, Greg ever wrote when he was 17 years old
I see Warren Haynes up there to......Awesome!
this is 1 of my favs from the Bros next to Whipping Post & Ramblin Man, you hit another home run with this group, thank you for sharing with us.
My daughter is Melissa.
A lot of girls got named after this song….including my niece.
Wow, I've never seen this live video before, what a gem! Good one Shawn.
Always reminds of a past love!! Guess the name.....
Loved the review! Great song. Suggest you listen to ain't wasting time no more , soulshine. Thank you!
I have seen them Live so many times i have lost count, and never a disappointment, got a little mad at Dicky Betts one time he kept bouncing picks off of my Cowboy hat, trying to impress my girlfriend is my guess lol
Greg Allman was once married to Cher. (I don’t think you have reacted to any of her songs)
Please Don't!
Should check out warren haynes(vocals, guitar from allman bros.) of goverment mule
Eat a peach
