  • Cessna Cardinal 2214Y is Getting a new interior! This Cessna Cardinal is long overdue for a new interior and we will being with redoing the front seats. The seats, as well as the rest of the interior, came from Aritex and it was all reasonably priced.
    I will get to the costs of this later on in the program, but it wasn’t really that bad. The best part of this is that this project is something that you can do yourself. It really doesn’t require any special skills except the willingness to figure it out.
    The total cost for the interior was about $3500.00. The seats were 1500 for all four. The seas came together pretty quickly, actually in about 4 days from start to finish and a lot of that time was glue and pint drying.
    I got the 1968 Cessna Cardinal interior from airtex. Everything came in a few boxes, very well organized with everything I need. They have instructions that you download from their site and it couldn’t be any easier. Everything you need is included. This actually was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
    Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
    Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

    Thank you for taking the time to create content that is teaching and informative. I like that you show that you can do the upholstery yourself. Continue doing things the way you want to do them.

    Great video. I too have an Airtex interior on the way. I look forward to seeing the next video. My plane is at AirPlains currently getting a new makeover. Interior to be done when Airtex sends me the seats.

    Ted, I'm certain it's all going to look great once it's complete. Between the new engine, avionics upgrades and now, new interior, you've got yourself a new aircraft!!
    I'm guessing you're going to replace all of the interior panels too? (Headliner, side panels, etc.)

    The seats look great... wow, you did good.. Congrats... was wondering what would it have cost if you had some upholsterer say that Tampa shop guys do it all for you?

      @Over50andLearningToFly  Před 2 lety

      Thanks ! It really wasn’t that hard I was actually surprised on how smoothly it went. It probably would’ve cost $1100-$1500 a seat. Upholstery like that is pretty expensive …. Thanks for watching!

    This is inspiring me to do my own! What kind of paint did you use on the base? Did you prime it with anything first?

    Airtex instructions? I've never been able to find them.

    • @ewinston70
      @ewinston70 Před 7 měsíci

      You have to call them and then they give you a web address and login code for their instruction website. They are just pictures too. You have to interpolate a little.

    I’m preparing to do the same to our cardinal, where did you buy the seat rollers and all the screws and clips? How did you know which ones to replace them with?

    Very cool, Ted. Q: Do the seats have "new plane" smell?

  • @goadamson
    @goadamson Před 2 lety +1

    Would you have considered replacing the springs given the age of the seats or will the foam and fabric change offer enough support?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  Před 2 lety

      No once you get in the springs then you’re really looking at getting new frames and actually they were fine they were just in need of a good cleaning and priming. The phone was really tight and stiff so that made the whole seats brand new. Thanks for watching!

  • @marksill8020

    Was any part of the $3k including the panels and carpet? Or are those separate?

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  Před 2 lety +2

      3500 for panels and seats - 440 for carpeting - i’m sorry I forgot to put that in there so it was around $4000 for everything…

    Looks great, I’m ready to redo my Cessna’s interior. Are these leather or vinyl? Thank you from someone who’s a decade past 50 and still flying!

    • @Over50andLearningToFly
      @Over50andLearningToFly  Před 2 lety

      I think there’s some kind of hybrid leather vinyl more on the vinyl side but they smell like leather!
