What Are You Going to do with Your Flying?
Yes! It is possible to get a flying job over 50!!!
Recently I got a call from a friend of mine, I guess we can call her a former youtuber, and as we were catching up on flying and life she made this comment..
I am tired of General Aviation…
And I agreed. Now, she had moved on from General aviation, getting her instrument, her commercial and then her multi and then her multi engine instrument and commercial and she ended up getting a job flying Jets.
My first thought is after you get your private pilot certificate. You should. Get a couple 100 hours as a VFR pilot just to get some experience, and then you should definitely get your instrument rating. Getting your instrument rating will make you a better, safer pilot. Remember, your instrument rating doesn't give you a license make bad decisions, like flying in bad weather, however it will give you the confidence and the ability to avoid bad weather, and that will make you a safer pilot because it'll just improve your decision making.
So my question to you is, what do you wanna do with your flying? Where do you wanna take it? Make that decision. Whether it's just to stop at your Instrument Rating or is it to go all the way through to your multi-engine commercial? Because remember one thing: It is possible.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

I stopped flying after 60 hours into training 3 years ago. 50 years old now. Economy tanked, less disposable income and thought, what the heck is my mission? I can't just take off for burger runs. Seems like a lot of money just for bragging rights and farting around in the sky. I still have that urge to finish though. Being in control of your own flight is an amazing experience.

Love the topic on doing more with piloting after 50. I am a bit confused by the comment “I am done with GA”. Was that more like “I am done with not making more out of my flying”. Technically corporate flying is still GA. Your 135 is GA. Not trying to be technical, just trying to understand where you/she is going with that comment.

How could the spar be so corroded that it has to be replaced but it wasn't found ? How did you go through all this and still not know how to spell EDDY?

Except for weight increase that would give access to docks, get you high enough to see dead heads, give you compartment floation for safety and increase wave tolerance…just sayin

In 1969 I had an introductory flight at the age of 13 in what was then called the Rose Valley Airport. My family lived in Rose Valley maybe a quarter mile from the airport and on lazy summer days my friends and I would lay in the grass at the end of the runway and wait for airplanes to fly twenty feet overhead. I saved my first flight 'logbook' and added it to my PPL when I started flying here in Canada (at an age over 50). What a treat to see this video. My home airport is the Guelph Airpark (CNC4) and every bit as small and fun as KVKK.
