I show you how to use the memory recall feature on the Sony a6300. This will allow you to be able to quickly change your video camera settings from 4k to HD 120fps by turning the mode dial on your camera. This is handy when shooting with the Sony a6300 at events where you need to be able to record in both formats.

To anybody wanting to do 4k 120fps, try moving the camera reallly slowly, and if you are filming animals tell them to move slowly aswell, then simply play back the video at 4x speed
Cool! This is great help! Very handy especially when you have other preferred frame rates.
Thank you. This is the only video on CZcams that clearly explains how this is done. You just saved me a lot of time. :)
I've been looking for a way to quickly switch shoot modes for a while now.. you've just saved me a lot of time, thanks!

Very useful for me. Thanks a lot.
Glad it helped. Do you have an a6300?
Yes. IÂŽve got a Sony a6300 and a RX100 m4. My RX100 has a dedicated place on the upper wheel for HFR. I find it really useful and missed it in my a6300. You solved this problem for me. Thanks again.
Nice!
That's very useful tip, thanks mate
Glad it helped!
+Akararas you're welcome
Very informative tutorial, helped me out bigtime!

Super helpful, thanks!

+Nelly chanelle thanks, you're welcome.

Easy to follow thank you :) What gives better quality recording in movieHFR mode where it slows it in down in camera or when you record 120fps ans slow it down in post?
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!
Tks my brother

I have an A7r I. This worked perfect for me! Thx!
wtf. same here
AHAHHAH
Thanks!
Hi Danny! I figured out and am sorry to report it's actually a problem with this tutorial! In your tutorial, you demonstrate setting things up and storing whilst in M (Manual) mode. However - this doesn't work when recalling the memory for video, because the camera needs to be in Video mode when storing the setting, otherwise the camera will ask you to switch to video mode in order to start recording - as the preset stored in 1/2 will be for M (manual - photography only). Setting the dial to Video mode when storing the Memory is essential - at least on the Sony a6500 - the only test model I have.
THANK YOU !! I had the same issue and I can confirm that I had to place the dial to movie mode if I wanted the memory settings to save for recording.
I think that is a difference between a6300 and a6500- it works fine for 6300- good job for calling it out for 6500 users tho
Will Goldstone this is confirmed that the a6500 memory recall differs in this way. So his tutorial is accurate to model number.
@KC_ink_addict I am having this very issue right now with my a6500. So do I put my camera in movie mode first, then go through the settings and then save those settings to either 1 or 2? Once saved, when you turn the dial to either 1 or 2 are you able to then shoot video with your saved settings?
What causes this is actually to do with another setting.
On page 8 of the cog menu icon (on Sony a6300 at least) there is the 'MOVIE Button' option, which can be set to 'Always' or 'Movie Mode Only': this controls whether movies can be recorded in modes (set from the mode dial) other than the movie mode. I believe by default it is set to 'Movie Mode Only', thus causing the 'Invalid in this mode. Available in movie mode.' message for recalled memory settings that were set in the manual mode.
There are other disadvantages to setting your memory from the manual mode though, like the 4:3 frame switching to 16:9 once the record button is pressed.
helped a lot..thanks :)
Nice JOB!!!
+Pedro BrandĂŁo Thanks!
Good Job explaining :)
thank you bro
Nice video đ
great !!! thank you
+Pete Ngamsopee You're welcome.
good video
Thanks for this tutorial. It saves a lot of time while out shooting. One question though, is it possible after everything is set to a memory button to use custom iso, like taking a shot of a white card? For some reason it wont let me access it.
Thanks,
Mike
please talk about aspect ratio ,,, thanks a lot for your videos , god bless you
Super Helpful! Background Music?
Hi there! How do you delete a memory recall that you have inputted?
awesome man! thanks! ques; what happens if you need to change the middle button to be your video record button? i'm using the a6300 in an underwater housing and need to allocate the middle button to movie mode/recording. thoughts on how to still toggle between 1 and 2 while changing that button?
Awesome!
thanks
Really liked the video... One function I wanted to add to both Memory #1 and #2 is the remote shutter control option. The option is located in the tool box menu #3. at the bottom. Is there anyway to add that option to my memory recall??? TIA
hey could you make a video explaining the best settings for shooting video with this camera? Like what slog is best for etc i would really like to hear your opinion. Thanks!!
+iRepGuam thanks đ
wow like this
thx
When recording HFR footage, are you using UHS-II SD cards?
Enjoy your channel. Looking to move up from a Olympus tg5 to a Sony 6000 or a6300. Shooting 50/50 photo and video. Any taught on which one might be better for a novice looking to expand my capabilities with my camera?
Nice Vid man, does your Sony ever over heat, also can I use a sigma 30mm 1.4 e mount fit on this camera and still get slog do you know haha?
For me personally it is better to switch between the modes by hitting Fn key, and then scrolling from one shooting mode (set in custom keys) to other, so all the settings (PP, iso, wb.. everything) remain the same (except minimum shutter speed of 1/120 in ntsc or 1/100 in pal). Plus, you will not make the dial loose that fast or at all with my setup :)
Thanks
Hi! Any chance you could explain how this is done, please? Thanks!
Thx. Can I assign all these to buttons c1 or c2?
Suggest a RE-DO with the 6500
Can you please do a Video with recommended settings when shooting in PAL - we have much less alternatives
you already have a lot of praise so its kind of pointless to comment this but thank you so much, it would've been a pain to google this and this really helped
Sick!!!!
very helpful, let's go shoot!
What lense you used bro
love you your video's. i picked up a a6500 and i love it. Watching this video i have 1 question. if I'm recording a particular scene at regular speed and you want to slow a scene down without interrupting your recording. Can this be done by just switching from mode 1 to mode 2 in your case?
Not that I know of. I do all my slow motion stuff in an editing program like Adobe Premiere Pro. Glad you're enjoying the Sony a6500, make sure to check out my guide if you haven't already on that camera.
what should be your setting in sequence to edit the slow motion footage, if you shoot at 250fps at 120p
hey...nice video. But what about M1 to M4 ? how can we recall this memory setups ? in camera wheel there is "1" and "2" as you described in order to recall our setup like your example, but how we recall M1 to M4 ? thanks
you go to either 1 or 2 and instead of just pressing enter, you first go left/right (on the wheel) to choose one of the four Ms and then press enter.
great idea thx:-)
is there a way to keep these settings after switching out the battery? have to redo it every time
So if I have custom button settings for 1, and want to have separate custom button settings for 2... that's not possible is it?
great vid. can you toggle between 4k and 120fps when the video is already recording?
No you cant
Everything cool and really handy tips but I spotted one sensitive flavour which you didn't mention regarding the 120fps and slow motion. I didn't check all the comments for it but I just buttoned my a6300 and there is an additional setting which I preffer before saving to M1 or M2. In the first camera menu, tab no. 7 last setting, you can select one of the 4 modes but directly in HFR so the video is automatically recorded in slow motion. I preffer this over post-processing the normal rate later. I dont know what is the actual rate but I like the smoothness out of it. Hope this helps lazy ppl like me. Thanks.
Can you share how you record the Camera's on-screen menu, please?
hi, how did you film from 4k to slowmo without the table of settings showing? bec it tends to stop the video recording whenever i try to move to other setting
Can you still change settings from a Memory profile? (For example you went to 120fps and wanted to adjust Aperture / Shutter speed?)
Hey @that1cameraguy I have the presets set up and saved in the 1/2, but now how can I actually use them in video mode?
How do you set up manual exposure in the various 1 & 2 modes? My camera keeps auto adjusting
Hey, did you find an answer ?
Try go to M mode first?
If you set & save the settings you want in m mode, the custom mode you saved it to will also be manual.
I have a gimbal now. should i turn steady shot on or can they work together some how.
What are your recommended Black Level, Black Gamma, Color Mode, Saturation, Color Phase, Color Depth and Detail settings? Do you increase the Exposure Comp when shooting on s-log?
Any idea on how to change the aperture, iso and shutter speed manually on number 1 or number 2 button option which is next to M button.
Before it was happening but i dont know what went wrong. If you could direct me with this trouble shoot i would appreciate it.
more a6300 videos please
