Thanks. If I owned a Sega Saturn, I would try to beat him with Maria too. I wish Konami would re-release the Sega Saturn version instead of the PS1 version.
It took a couple of attempts but I managed to beat him with Alucard on my first playthrough with bog standard equipment I found in the inverted castle. During one of my early Richter playthroughs I stumbled onto the whip the head exploit by sheer dumb luck. Galamoth's very tough, but he's not a god tier boss.
I played and beat sotn for the first time a week ago. I've played other castlevania games so I knew about some tech like cancelling, but nothing specific like spells you can't buy at the shop or special weapon abilities (I did find out that the ice sword had a charge attack through luck though.) My strat for Galamoth after having died to him so many times was to get in the right corner and wait for him to do his thunder charge attack, then mist form under his legs to get enough space to jump attack for double hit procs. Sometimes a thunder strand would extend to hit you and knock you out of the "cycle" though.

only way to get to his chest is stun lock him then crouch and hit him in the chest .
galamoth gets more health lost when hit in the chest.
I remember playing this when it first came out. I’m sure nobody beat this boss for a while. Haha

Alu is way way more op than Richter so even at first play, you won't lose using Alu
