I love that Freedom Force got a shout out! I never hear anyone talking about it, so I thought it was forgotten. Hope Capes turns out to be as fun.
Man freedom force, that is a throw back forgotten to time.
Freedom force, such a great game!
I've hoped for a rerelease of that game for so long
I try to bring it up in every "Next 5 reviews" video, so happy to hear Mortym refer to it. It might not be the retrospective review we deserve, but it sure is the review we need.
Freedom For e was epic!
Freedom Force is still one of my most replayed games to this day !!!!
Now that is an IP I want to se a revival of. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
Definitely needs a remaster.
But as I recall, the comic book companies made life brutal for them.
I played both games all the way thru 11 times.
And it ended on a huge cliffhanger. RIP Man-Bot.
So the developers of this game are a few of the people that made the Hand of Fate games.
I was so sad when their studio shut down so I really hope this game does well for them, they are really fun people and deserve some success!
Good mention of hand of fate
The design reminds me a lot of 90s-early 2000s comics, i kind of like it. I bet there will be a lot of nudges towards famous comics such as Watchmen.
This would have been amazing with a character creator
Yeah, I absolutely love superhero games that allow you to make your own. But I can understand why they didn't do it.
This is what this game is missing. Hopefully, they figure out a way to implement it in some way, having options is never bad
Capes is what I was hoping Midnight Suns would be
Midnight Suns was one of my favorite games last year. I already pre-ordered this one. I hope I enjoy it just as much.
Looks like Lamplighters League
Evil corporation? Wow, nice to see a new type of villain! 😜
I loved freedom force back in the day, yay!
Oh man Freedom Force brought up a lot of memories. That's crazy. I'll keep an eye out for this one in the future since I'm broke n jobless atm. Thanks for the vid
Looking forward to it, been eying it on Steam for a bit, so nice to see you picking it up.
When you mentioned this game originally, I went to the demo and enjoyed my time with it! I'm very glad to see it's coming out soon and your impressions stay positive.
I really enjoyed the demo for this. Looking forward to full release. Love trpgs and superheroics
Thanks for the video. If this executes well on its mechanics, then I'll definitely be excited for it. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
Really loved Midnight Suns. Hopefully i can get the same vibe from this 🤔
devs didnt' put much effort into the game its not even close to xcom games tactical layer of the city and other things from xcom
@@reinierdash9020 Indie studio. If this game sells well, Capes 2 will get a bigger budget.
Played the demo some time ago. Glad to hear the full release is coming
Getting strong Freedom Force vibes! Love it!
Cool! Thanks for looking at it !
I've loved everything I've played or seen of this one. Looks like a lot of classic superhero fun.
Yep i ve been waiting for a freedomforce review for some time now
This had me till I saw the static roster and no-perma death. A big part of the TRPG appeal for me is the emergent storytelling between plot beats that come from varied units and the chance at your squad changing drastically over time. I know it's on your radar but I'm getting that itch scratched in Phantom Brigade. Your pilots are more or less fatigue meters with name tags but they get some emotional moments in overworld events and the mechs couldn't be MORE customizable, save for the somewhat slow trickle of meaningful loot. Plus the physics system and loose combat grid make decent room for creative solutions to the common problem of 'getting shot at' that's possible but very restrictive in X-Com's more direct offspring.
This feels like a game that took the best parts of Midnight Sun and Chimera Squad
I played the demo when it came out and loved it.
I’m so excited for this game! I pre-ordered the King City Edition for my PS5. ❤
Looks cool! I do love me some combo abilities.
Their symbology keeps bringing my mind to VtM's Setites (Ministry).
Odd how many folks loved Freedom Force and are excited for this that missed Troubleshooters back in 2020. This looks good though and i may have to check it.
Looks cool. Thanks Mortismal. :")
You had me at 2002’s Freedom Force. I still own 2 disk versions of 1 and 2… with printed manuals.😅
That looks fairly interesting. Be nice to see the state it releases in
Thanks
this looks amazing hopefully tons of dlc.
Should do a BG3 lore video I really enjoyed all the background you did on Do2 would love that for BG3 also same thing like you did with the origin characters from DO2, and kind of the same format really enjoyed those do you have plans do dive more into BG3 lore, that’s how I got hooked on your channel
Tried this back in Steam next fest, hopefully it releases semi-soon
May 29th
@@MortismalGaming Yep, my birthday! As a fan of Freedom Force and Midnight Suns despite its issues, I am super excited for this birthday gift the universe has given me!
I like this. Thank you
I really enjoyed the demo and I'm excited about the game. Finding out there's only 8 recruitable heroes is a little disappointing though
Defenders of Dynatron City...it was my first Superhero game. It was terrible, don't play it. Anyway, this has been on my wishlist since it got a date on PSN, since I do love some tactical RPG nonsense(I got Front Mission 2's remake yesterday), and I also quite enjoy Superhero stuff.
Was curious on the difficulty, since that is always something I'm interested in. Wish more did custom modes like OwlCat, Arkane, etc, giving the player the sliders to play with so they can set their own. I remember that Wintermoor Tactics thing(a school snowball tournament reimagined as a tactics game), which let me create a one hit unalive mode for everything. that was great.
Anyway, this is looking fun, and I will certainly be getting it.
Kings Row lookin' different.
From what I've seen the animations are Xcom-level which is good enough for this kind of games IMO, but the sounds are a bit wimpy for a superhero theming.
The combat looks good with lots of goons thrown at you but you can kill half of those in 2 hits so the pace is not too slow.
This game does look interesting. Might check it oht
If this game does good might be public image saver for daedalic entertainment after the launch of gollum
Yeah buddy
Freedom Force, yes, a game that I installed back in like 2021 and still haven't played 😅...
I wonder if this game will ever come to GOG?....🤔
Good show sir
Are the missions prescripted or random like in XCOM?
Freedom Force was amazing. All I wanted from Midnight Suns was to be FF with modern graphics and Marvel coating.
They couldn't do it. Glad to see this (mostly) gets it.
I just hope that you can make your own char or chars like in ff, if not .. i might pass on this game.
I want a Midnight Suns sequel so bad.. so so bad.. why did none of you buy it at launch damnit!? 😭
That sequel tease will haunt me forever…
Cards are a deal breaker for me in a TRPG. I planned on day 1 buying until I saw the cards, and now I have no plans to play it ever.
❤🔥
Seems like an interesting game
Gronk!
Wish we could create a character
Are the enemies 'knocked out' or are they killed by the heroes?
I believe they are dead, but I dont recall them explicitly stating one way or another. Bunch of civilians get killed in the opening scene though
Any summoners? :)
I completely forgot about Freedom Force.
how does the mission/story progress? is it like xcom/troubleshooter/battletech? like where you farm random gen missions? have to manage fatigue, and injuries? or is it more story driven like freedom fighters were, or other trpgs like roguetrader/wasteland/encased, etc?
how does it handle end of mission and lots of npcs.
Battletech was good in, missions would end as soon as the map was clear. even "get to evac point" missions. as soon as the threat as gone. mission done.
Trouble shooter was bad about that. "get to the evac point" would make you waste 10 turns to get to the evac point, even after all threats were eliminated.. Also had problems with like 10 npcs and having to wait for everyone to take their turn. ooph.
isn't Daedelic Entertainment the ones behind LOTR Gollum?
They didn't develop this game, just publish it.
After Golum they closed down their in-house development studio and are solely focused on publishing games.
Played the prior demo and the disarm mechanic just annoyed me, needing to disarm so many people before they just gunned you down was annoying, felt like an unnecessary layer that the enemy never has to deal with.
Many they changed it up with the final game though
I liked the demo they put out a while back. I 'm a big old comic nerd, though, so I'm and easy sell so long as the game doesn't suck or run like crap.
No custom character creator? Such a shame :(
Crazy to me how you have a family, I guess a real job and still manage to bang these outs. Kudos man. You're doing us all a solid.
He said youtube is is full time job for a while now.
Ow. Well makes more sense. Still, that's a hell of alot of gaming. @@andresousa9876
welp another game i'm gonna have to play, i should really go outside....lemme just get to the boss i promise this time🤞
I feel it needs more customization for heroes.. no items or loot feels a bit bland..
Not to mention theres really only one way to make ur hero stronger the progression seems extremely linear
Would have bought this game instantly if it had character creation
NO CAPES!!
Marvel Heroes RIP... _sniff_
free comment.
do we have characters with actual "capes?"
"Evil Mega Corporations"
Sounds like every Cartoons/Disney villains.
I wanna see a game that doesn't follow this story narrative. Also it is rare to hear someone mentioning Freedom Force.
Well, write what you know and all that... especially from Disney/Amazon and co.
We're at the point where it's hard to think of a worse/less powerful antagonist outside of Gods and ultra-advanced aliens, it looks like
@@armelior4610 the crazy part was taking down "Evil" to replace em under new management. Nothing change, it is just the characters wanted that higher position. They could be the antagonist to someone's pov and the cycle repeat itself.
Most of these story ended with character defeating the Corporation, but it would be interesting if what happened after that? Most JRPG ended like that as well.
Not knocking this game in particular, but all games in general: I am so tired of difficulty sliders simply being stat-buffs/debuffs and little else. Player is debuffed; AI is buffed. That's HARDER than the last setting. Is it?... How about advanced tactics? New abilities used by the AI not used in previous difficulty settings? More enemies and/or enemy variety? Different objectives? Oh, I know why. That takes actual thought, design, and effort. And so few of these so-called game developers partake in what we call effort these days; they merely pump out some quasi-similar or near-identical game to every other game in the target genre, slap it with a fresh coat of paint, on occasion add some (usually repetitive or unnecessary) "gimmick" to make their game standout, which might at times be merely aesthetic, and hope they somehow become the next surprise trend on Steam.
It looks like it still need a lot of polish. These graphics are bland....
