Hi, LadySteno!! I'm 19 and have been a stenographer in downtown Tampa since I was 18 (almost a year). I'm really trying to prepare and become more confident about passing this RPR test in November this year. It's a big deal for me. I just stumbled across your channel. i will admit that sometimes i do go through the motions and just practice in order to say i practiced. you touching upon the notion that you really need to learn something in that time spoke to me. thanks for the wake up! :)
Have been enjoying getting back into reporting. Your comments are very helpful. I need to be able to pass 225 to get hired in the courthouse. I have speed but notes sloppy. Any advice would be helpful. I've got 4 years freelance but not working for couple years.
Reporter for 40 years here. The salary ranges from probably 25,000 all the up to 500,000 for a phenomenal independent reporter. The variables are too numerous to mention. But I think a good average is 60,000 to 100,00. Now, if you are a freelancer reporter (not employed by the court system), you will have no benefits, no retirement plan, no paid vacation, so a lot has to come out of that salary. If you work for the court system, you will get benefits, etc. and your salary will probably be between 45,000 to 110,000 plus transcript income which could generate another 20,000 to 50,000.
@@patty4201 Wow, thanks so much for all that detail in your reply. I just started court reporting school in CA and I really hope I will be able to learn theory. I am kind of nervous but like you said, working in the court will give good benefits/retirement
@@nexusSix_237 Oh, California is a different animal. As far as I know, CA freelance salaries are much higher than the rest of the country. So I think you can expect 100K+ with no problem. But contact other CA reporters. I am on the East Coast.

Of course, if you don't have that many words on your list ... well ... I'm sure you'll come up with something! :o)

Practice makes permanent, not perfect,
I write @100wpm speed but commits 1 or 2 %mistakes in 840 words dictation. Should I writing at this speed or reduce the speed?
