Driving the First 2019 Abarth 595 Esseesse in the UK *Exclusive*

  • The stunning Abarth 595 esseesse is back, breathing new life into a name deeply rooted in the brand's history. A success repeated in 2009 by the original “esseesse” tuning kit for the new Abarth 500, which appeared in 2008. The tuning increased the engine's power to 160 HP and modified the suspension setup, with Eibach lowering springs, alongside a higher-powered braking system and other clearly racing-inspired contents.
    Today, 10 years later, the iconic “esseesse” returns to the top of the Abarth range, and is equipped with the brand's most powerful 180 HP engine. In the best Abarth tradition, this 595 is made truly special by specific standard equipment that provides an exciting driving experience, always accompanied by the unmistakable deep roar of the Abarth by Akrapovic exhaust system, custom-developed, which combines outstanding performance with an exciting sound. To increase power delivery to the front wheels, a mechanical limited slip differential has been fitted to the esseessee as standard.
    A huge thanks to Abarth UK for inviting me to drive this brand new car.

    Definitely a fun package Peter, love the colour, agree with the white wheels and the sound from the Akrapovic exhaust 👍🏻. Driving Fish Hill took me back to my youth, coming down the old hill the sump bung fell out of my Mk 1 1340cc Mini & boom 💥 rattle, rattle !! Brilliant roads around that part of the Cotswolds, home of my family for countless generations.
    Oh to be young & in my prime (again), I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

    Enjoyed video and been very tempted by Abarths as a Fiat fan, but as a practical daily drive can they be fitted with all season tyres ? Had Michelin Cross Climates on my Punto and very impressed but Abarths are low profile and probably model specific for dry roads.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 5 lety

      I can't see why you couldn't put Cross Climates on, but not sure about the size. It's pretty good with the tyres it comes with to be fair

    • @osamarism
      @osamarism Před 5 lety

      The tyres aren't such a big problem, you might have to go down an inch on the rim size but you can get some stellar tyres for questionable conditions. (I have an Abarth Punto and with the 17" 215/45s you can get all sorts of good tyres, or stick with the super soft and sticky Pirellis)

      No, because those cars are not meant to cruise on the fast lane at 230 km/h... the manual 5 speed gearbox is to me a good choice because it keeps the car in the old GTI style like in the '80s. This car is brutal, I have one myself, I'm 52 years old and I'm driving sports cars since I have 18... With this car I'm back in time it's like I was driving my first MK1 Golf GTI, Renault Clio Williams, Peugeot 205/309 GTI, ... I don't want a 6th gear, I just wanna have fun with this little go-kart.

    I'm sure it'll being smiles to anyone with a pulse. But as a Mini aficionado, I'll stick with the make I love and have done for the last 40+ years. They are the types of car that you can use 95% of their power for 75% of your driving, rather than other bigger, more powerful cars where you can barely use 50% of the power for 50% of the time on UK roads.

      @@sophehe - OK! So what about a Nissan Micra Convertible. In PINK!!?? That's just an example. But cars are not genderless and car makers know this.
      Believe it or not, but it's the same with cigarettes. Cigarette manufacturers make those pastel coloured cigarettes specifically aimed towards girls to get them to smoke. And once they start, they hope that their boyfriends will take it up by buying "normal" cigarettes to keep in line with their girlfriend.
      Maybe this is something that PP could "investigate" further by asking his viewing populous?

      @sophehe Před 5 lety +1

      The Zanzibarbarian Ok? your point is? its a pink nissan micra, probably belongs to an old woman but what r u trying to get at, Fiat has different designs fit for anyone, it was never manufactured for the intent purpose of girls driving it. Pisses me off when people say fiat is a female car when i’m a car enthusiast with a focus RS, but considering a fiat 500 s as my daily, i’d like to be able to drive something without this stigma that its female around. I’ve seen many more mini’s with female drivers than i have males aswell. I’m saying a car is a car it doesn’t have a gender, it’s what you want.
