    Not sure why your channel hasn't blown up. I rank you at the top for advice on building a CNC business. We don't have to sit through 1.5 hrs of yapping to get 20 minutes of good information (some just like to hear themselves talk!). You have an amazing origin story, and the current setup to validate your tips.
    I appreciate your humor, laughing at yourself most of the time. Your team clearly likes working with you (hi Jeremy 👋), and in my mind is a window on character.
    Keep doing what you are doing.... great stuff!

      If you watch (a bit) of the channels that have blown up, you'll quickly see the differences. Those differences are, "annoying" to put it mildly - to some people at least. Some of the biggest channels on YT make my skin crawl. I like this channel, you like this channel and over 80k other people do too. We're just not in the majority of the CZcams demographic that blows channels up.

    Great vid. I saw you Patrick Bet-David "Entrepreneur" shirt on in a previous vid. I wonder if you were at a Vault event when I was.
    I recently upgraded my machine to have an ATC and variable speed control via the VFD. It took me three years to finally start considering the chip load seriously. So much better results!

      I was at the very first vault in Dallas in 2019, followed PBD since 40,000 subs, had lunch with him a few times, but don’t watch him much anymore, wayyy to political and I’m not at that stage in my life yet, don’t need politics, I just need to get smarter and work harder.

    Helpful video - I have that vintage Laguna CNC, but with the ATC - so I can program in Aspire the feeds and speeds by bit and have Aspire make the change on the machine... I typically run my bits at 40-50 IPM, 18k, and fairly shallow cuts (3-4 passes to cut through 3/4" on a 1/4" bit) and I get crappy cuts and really fine saw dust. A favorite 1/4" compression bit of mine, Amana 46170-K ($$$), has a chipload listed .0031, recommended IPM of 110, and RPM of 18k, with a depth of cut at 1/4". When I've tried running at that high an RPM, I get screaming goats (that goat clip was PERFECT!), a wabbly machine, parts that don't stay put- kind of scary, and the quality of cut isn't really good. Wood is 3/4 pine or plywood. I am trying to follow the mfg recommendations on the bit, but it's a little frustrating! Do you really run your Laguna at "90-120 RPM" as you say in the video?

    Mostly all true, except that with 1 flute bits, you have to go slower than a 2 flute bit, theoretically 1/2 the speed.
    I have a 1 flute replaceable insert 90° V bit that I run at 18000 rpm and 40 inches per minute, and my 2 flute brazed carbide V bit I run at 80 ipm.
    I also have a 3 flute 60° V bit that I run at 120 ipm.
    There's definitely a learning curve with owning your first CNC, and I'm still adjusting things with every bit and type of material 3 years into my ownership.

    • @monarchco
      @monarchco Před 6 měsíci

      chipload is calculated per tooth, so not theoretical, but exactly 1/2 the speed.

    Great video again!
    Always learning from your advice and knowledge 👍
    So if I can get a little free advice I’d appreciate it!
    1/4” down cut in most woods I’m getting the GOAT SCREAM😂
    3hp water cooled spindle,VFD on a Avid 4x4
    I’ve slowed spindle rpm down,adjusted speed. Both ways and no changes.
    Ugh!
    Something I’m sure I’m doing wrong but can’t seem to nail it.
    Also one thing I experience a lot of times trying to get greedy with speed is the dreaded CV rounding my corners.
    I’m running Mach3 and Vectric V Carve Pro.
    So point being like you said…
    Figure out the machine capabilities for sure.
    Thanks for the videos!

    • @cutting-it-close
      @cutting-it-close  Před 6 měsíci

      1/4 typically screams a bit, not going to be able to go 400 inches per minute like you should with that machine. 180 ipm is about max with that machine.
      You can probably tell the scream is caused by the CNC because of it vibrating as well. Whenever it’s cutting feel the x gantry and if it’s vibrating slightly that’s causing some of the screaming. My IQ does that as well.

      @rcamoonpie648 Před 6 měsíci

      @@cutting-it-close Thanks for the reply.
      Yep it’s limited on this machine but I’m still a greenhorn so it’s probably a blessing in disguise!
      It’s primarily in corners especially in a raster cut.
      Guess due to slowing down and changing direction I’m assuming.
      Thanks again!

    Hi great stuff, you mention.feed rate but what about depth? In ply with an 8mm straight cutter what feed rate and depth of cut would you recommend? Thanks👍

    • @cutting-it-close
      @cutting-it-close  Před 6 měsíci +1

      So wood you can go down maximum 3x the diameter of the bit. I typically stay around 2x the diameter of the bit and sometimes only do 1x the diameter. On soft plastics it’s 2x and hard plastics it’s 1x the diameter of the bit. I hope this helps! The feedrate depends on the number of flutes

    A mistake i see beginners make is throwing out dull bits, V bits for example you can get them professionally sharpened for a fraction of the price for a new one.
    Regular fluted bits is more of a hassle since hobby machines usually aren't able to do cutter compensation. but it's a great way to save money imo.

    Erro numero 1 eu sempre errei😂😂😂 mas você ta ficando velho kkkk
    Depois de assistir exaltivamente seu video pude compreender sobre avanço x rpm x flute. Tambem procurei ver as limitações de minha maquina então pensei: para maquinas pequenas e de pouca velocidade de avanco nao seria melhor ter spindle com torque maximo a 12000rpm?porem pensei tambem twria que ser refruferado a agua. Me diga se estou enganado pra mais uma vez não dar bobeira 😂😂😂😂
    Como meu spindle é refrigerado a água utilizo apartir de 10000rpm
    De modo a alcancar alguma combinações da tabela de velocidade
