      @@aquarius113 sleeping pills are effective. However, they are very addictive and loose its effectiveness with time. Try to gradually limit them. What works for me: +do not force yourself to fall asleep, do not worry about you being still awake, do not check the time at night +going to bed at regular hours + white noise helps me fall asleep ( especially cooling fan, hairdryer sound etc.) I also listen to audiobooks with my eyes closed. The noises from the house or street easily distract me and prevent me from sleeping +most of the sleeping suplements are ineffective for me, however I've managed to find one that does work. It's called Neospasmina in Poland. Try to find an equivalent in your country. It's based on popular herbs. Only the liquid form works for me. Sometimes I combine it with melatonin. I wish you luck

But this video hit the nail on the head...my Real problem is trying force myself to fall asleep, which creates pressure that causes that sleep anxiety, aforementioned. I have been suffering from insomnia for the past 3 years straight, and from all my research and trials, I would say that your advice really is the key to curing insomnia. I'm glad you found this simple cure to it. Also, based on my research, more than 70% of Americans are magnesium (and some potassium) deficient which can also be a cause of insomnia. So as of past night, I'm taking a ZMA (Zinc Magnesium) supplement to help me relax before bedtime. I heard it took somebody else about a week to kick in. Good luck to everybody suffering from insomnia and I hope you all start sleeping peacefully and adequately. God bless!

      I've been suffering same amount of years like you. And I've tried it all. I'm on 5mg zopiclone but find i need to pair w/ magnesium & l-theanine. Sometimes it won't work, so I would add ashwaganda or reishi mushrooms. I'm really tired of being tired. Then morning comes, I have the same struggle later at night. Mind you, i work out 5x a week. I would take his advice too. The one time I normally feel like falling asleep is when i'm at the basement watching a random show. I think it's coz my anxiety isn't occuring in that couch, only in my bed.

    Hey man I thank you a lot for this video, I've been struggling A LOT with insomnia for years now and something I've noticed is that when I go to sleep when I truly feel tired and sleepy I sleep like a baby, I never wake up to pee, I don't ever wake up for anything at all and I feel like I fall asleep so deep unlike when I try to go to sleep at a specific hour, that's when the insomnia kicks in and I barely sleep, almost anything wakes me up and I pretty much spend the whole night trying not to wake up.
    Your suggestion sounds amazing and I'm already looking forward to trying it but something I'm wondering is what happens when you want to wake up at a specific hour? For example I get super tired at around 2 AM, if I go to sleep at 2 AM but I want to wake up at 8 AM to have more time during the day (If I go to sleep at 2 AM I normally wake up at 10 AM), wouldn't I still be tired during the day? I suppose I'll still compensate for those missing hours like you said in your video but in what way exactly? In that case would I get tired earlier than 2 AM and would need to go to bed earlier than 2AM? In other words what happens when you want to wake up at an early hour so that you can be more productive during the day even though your sleep schedule forces you to sleep at around 2 AM and wake up at around 10 AM? How does my fucked up sleep schedule adjust to the hour I want to wake up?

    Man as an international student living alone during this whole pandemic. This lockdown made me stay home all day and I got homesick . This lead to me getting stressed and anxiety. THANK YOU, THANK YOU... I think my insomnia is largely credited to the anxiety i get from pressuring myself to "get good sleep"... In the past , if I had episodes of insomnia, I'd often force myself to bed like an hour before I usually would just so that I would have ample time to fall asleep. Then when I wouldn't fall asleep quick enough, I would almost force myself to focus on falling asleep. Now, I don't give myself all this pressure, and thank God, achieving good sleep is much more effortless now. Again thank you.

    Thank you for your research and for sharing what you learned in it's simplest form. I started last night and will follow this until I have resolved my mental anxiety. I took off my apple watch because it seemed to create more anxiety based on what it said (hours of total sleep/ times I woke up in the night, etc.) Last night I woke up several times, went to the living room and stayed out there until I felt sleepy. Did it I think three times, I feel good but more important I feel like I have a clear plan of action to get control without the use of pills. Most important I have prayed to receive support and guidance from our Savior Jesus Christ because with Him everything is possible. 🙏😴

    Anxiety can come, as you say, from feeling we “should” be sleeping a certain number of hours or at a certain time. All my life I’ve been an early riser, even as a child. I get sleepy around 8-9 p.m., so I’ll take a nap for a couple of hours. Wake up for 1-2 hours, then go to sleep. I’ve read that this “bi-phasic” sleep was the norm before the Industrial Revolution & electric lighting. My problem isn’t going to sleep; it’s staying asleep. I often wake 2-3 times per night. I just try not to stress about it, do some slow, deep breathing, & not allow myself to start thinking. Cheers!

I never got more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep even after 3 weeks without sleeping pills and when I was already so extremely tired. I do fall asleep rather quickly, but I always wake up after 3.5 hours of sleep, fully alert, and then my mind starts racing and I can't get back to sleep. Usually I stand up, make some herbal tea with relaxation-inducing herbs, take valerianae root pills, take melatonin, etc. I do fall asleep again (sometimes) at 7 or 8 am, but that's time I usually have to get out of bed for work. I've at times got up from the bed to play a relaxing game on my computer then go back right after a few minutes fearing that if I keep on avoiding sleep, I may not be able to sleep the whole night. Also won't falling asleep when you feel like it creates a habit that makes you sleep at the same time you last did so? I had a time where I slept without effort for 2 months at 12 am after a year of insomnia, but then it just suddenly came back and now I usually fall asleep between 1-5 am. 1) I completely quit coffee, if that does not help, I quit alcohol as well. Then I can come back to it when I am fine again, but not too much obviously :)
    2) At least 10 minutes of focusing on my breath and just observing what is flying in my head, writing it down, possibly do it everyday.
    3) Listening (not watching) to soft spoken asmr videos or some rain/wind/train/other sounds that are relaxing to me, I have an app in my phone for that.
    4) Making my environment super comfy and cosy - cold temperature around, no stuff in my bed. But you know - when there is stuff in your head, this does not help anyway :D
    Good luck with healing, everyone!

    The bed anxiety is so true! Sadly, I think its rooted very deep inside me now since Ive been sleeping on the couch for almost 2 months now, but its fine, I like the couch somehow XD Also what really stressed me out was checking the time anytime I couldnt sleep. Thats probably also one of the biggest mistakes you, or I could/can do, since Im into that mindset of "less than 6hours is bad for your health". I need to get up at 6am throughout the week, and as soon as I see the time is passed 0:00 midnight, I start panicking. I still struggle with this mindset but its getting better, also (even if this sounds weird) with knowing that other people feel the same. :)

    • @TomScryleus
      @TomScryleus  Před rokem +1

      I read your words and remember how I suffered too. One suggestion is forget ”less than 6h is bad”. That will just stress u out. You can sleep extra the following day, take powernaps etc.
      I know that panic when its passed midnight. But the first step is to kill the sleep anxiety. And only go to bed when you feel tired. After a while you will get better at sleeping.
      I have reduced my sleep anxiety so much that i can go to bed even when im to to sleepy, because my brain remembers the joy of closing eyes when i am dead tired.
      Right now your brain thinks
      ”bed? Ok, time to feel anxiety again”

  • @carlaferreira2300
    @carlaferreira2300 Před rokem +22

    This video it’s the best one I found about fighting insomnia. About a year ago, I started having an obsession with sleeping, and every night I was forcing myself to sleep… well it didn’t work, the sleep is not an on off button. I was trying to control that and even saying to myself “sleeping is not important”, because my obsession was so big that I was afraid of what could happen with me when losing hours of sleep. I took some pills, not sleeping ones but anxiety pills, and it’s the only thing that really helps when I really can’t fall asleep because I can’t stop forcing myself to sleep. I take these pills when I am feeling very bad and can’t fight the anxiety by myself. I did some exams to understand if there was something wrong with my organism, but everything was ok…. Anxiety sometimes makes you feel so scared of such stupid things, like “ I have to wake up early tomorrow, so I really need to sleep” and then you don’t sleep. And when I can’t sleep, my anxiety gets bigger the next day in such way that it’s pretty much harder to fall asleep the next night. So, this is what I do: I definitely use this trick of not worrying about the sleeping time (at least I try), when I can’t sleep one night and the next night I can’t fall asleep again, I take pills for anxiety. Right now it’s 7:06 AM and didn’t fall asleep… I know the next night I will have to take one of these pills…
    Praying Jesus to heal me from all of the anxiety and insomnia, I’m pretty much better! Baby steps!

      Im glad you liked the video, and hope you feel better soon. Worrying about getting sleep will get you more anxiety, so I hope you can overcome it.
      The only downside to "my method". is that sometimes I will go to bed much later that I want. which can be bad when I need to get up early.
      but its worth it not having anxiety over not being able to sleep.

      In one way it has nothing to do with the philosophy I apply.
      The power nap is because I sleep 5-6 hours per night, so I need my powernaps as well.
      but in another way it actually works very well with the philosophy, I sleep when I feel tired. in the evenings I feel like resting so I take a powernap.

    I've had insomnia for 25 years its snowballed into a huge problem. I agree don't go to sleep until tired. I don't think getting uo when awake helps , I tried that for years just makes me worry more. I think it's all related to being an over thinker. I'm going to practice mindfulness and being present. Still really exhausted every day. Hopefully a solution will come.

      Insomnia isn't really a problem at all. It's the problem of thinking there's a problem when there's none which _BECOMES_ the problem. Hope that makes sense. Your mind gets confused and stressed over it which makes sleeping harder

It can lead into some serious mental illness and other serious ailments. Now that my medicine isn't working on me, I am gonna try anything I could find to help me. I'm very sorry to hear about your problems.
      The big difference for me before and after I tried this is that I really enjoy sleep now, I look forward to going to bed. But I don't go to bed until I'm REALLY REALLY sleepy.
      Before I used to think sleep is just a thing you have to do to stay healthy. So my perspective really shifted.
      I don't even think about getting the sleep I need. If I don't feel sleepy, I have no issues staying up half the night. I watch movies and just enjoy the night, until I get sleepy. It worked for me.
      I truly hope you find a way (if "my" way doesn't work).
